The point isn't to make people happy. You toss everyone together, see who wants to pony up for better seats, just like at concerts, and the rest sorts itself out via assigned seating, preferably by registration date. Not that complicated and it's a lot better than the general chaos that ensues every time someone wants to get up right now. And after the little cleaning bill debacle a money grab should be more than justifiable.

If the point isn't to make people happy, then my suggestion is just as valid as yours. And, personally, I think the simpler the solution, the better. Raise entry fees $3-5 to cover cleaning fees. Seat people by regions according to number of registered players per region (regions with more players get better seating ... with front locations reserved for Top 8 finalists, judges, event staff, sponsors, etc).

That's a brilliant idea, except the part where the US residents spend a tiny fraction of what other countries pay to attend. Your idea is absolutely just as valid as mine, but at least with mine cost is relative to seating like every other spectator event ever.

You are proposing having people pay more money ON TOP of what they are already paying to travel there, stay there (hotel costs), and eat there. I'm proposing a simple structure based on representation of attendees.

And I fail to see how your point about US players paying less to attend than international players helps your suggestion, unless you mean to say that international players should have their additional travel expenses automatically factored into costs for seating (allowing them premium seating WITHOUT having to pay extra at the door).

But whatever, this exchange is getting into rather pointless territory (useless bickering). It's not like these ideas are currently being pitched to an "official" suggestion forum for the next EVO.

So what were the turn-outs for Evo per game? I thought I saw someone post it (possibly d3v) but I can't find it in this thread or another source with the numbers.

3,500 total registered competitors is the only concrete number I have.

Yes. Highest for any tournament ever. Dreamhack doesn't count because of the festival held there.

I can give you estimates.

AE2012 - 1500+
Marvel - 1200+
KOF - 1000+ (very close to 1100)
SFxT - 800+ (very close to 900)
SC5 - 400+
MK9 - 291

Other Side Tourneys
VF5FS - 192
Skullgirls - unsure of this one

Give me some time and I'll get you the exact number per game. I'll just go through the EVO brackets and see how many people were in each pool and add those numbers up since the brackets are still available.
