Try Overwatch. They insist there's this big story to the game, and advertise it based on cutscenes and animations promoting the story, but then don't have any such story or cutscenes in the game.
It apparently doesn't need a story to be super successful. I've been long eyeing the game, because I really like it's colorful tone and great art design, but without a singleplayer experience I won't buy the game. But they don't seem to need me. :/
I didn't know his father but I kinda got a feeling he was deceased XD And no I have no idea who Glauca is, sounds like a gender swapped version of Gladio tbh.
Gladiolus' and Iris' father Clarus Amicitia was one of King Regis' closest friends as well as his adviser and bodyguard, basically exactly what Gladio is to Noctis. Clarus was killed by General Glauca during Niflheim's invasion of Insomnia. He died protecting the king.
It would have imo been very important to let the player of the game know this little fact. It would have made Gladio so much more relatable. Many are baffled as to why Gladio acts so bitchy and aggressive towards Noctis in certain scenes. It is because he knows his father died for Noctis' father and he would also die for Noctis. Which shows immense loyalty and dedication. But seeing Noctis falter in some situations must also be a terrible, frightening sight for Gladio. Everything he and his family believed in, and even died for, is at stake.
Without knowing all of that, Gladio just comes across as huge asshole.
Glauca, always completely obcured by his full body armor, is the highest ranking general of the Niflheim Empire. His other name is Drautos, who is *drum roll* also the captain of the Kingsglaive, King Regis' personal army. He is basically a double agent implanted by Niflheim.
At the start of the game, when Noctis says good bye to his father, Drautos is standing next to King Regis. Yep, his killer is actually standing right beside him and Noctis unknowingly even tells Drautos to
take care of his father. Someone who didn't watch Kingsglaive has no clue what that actually became to mean...
We don't encounter Drautos in the game anymore, because he was defeated by Nyx. Their duell, that basically devasted all of what was left of Insomnia, took place because of the ring of the Lucii, which was the ring Luna gave to Noctis...
