I hope this is a hoax, because I feel bad for people who got UMC3

Well, there was a positive response to the UMvC3X hoax a few months back.

2 upgrades of the same game?... It gets very old..
AE style DLC upgrade. People wont mind, especially since you apparently need to have a copy of UMvC3 to play it early.

Im just saying.. If they're going to release a game, release it ONE time, Not two, three, four times. That just means your milking the consumer.

Tell that to everyone on Unity asking for updates.
That is so bold. lol If Capcom know people will keep asking for updates, why don't they just put all they can into the game? Their strategy is: "Oh if you want more content, you gotta pay" And that my friend, thats bullshit.

There's also the preconception that a game is dead once they stop supporting it with content.

It's also up to Marvel for some of these. Characters like Nova and Rocket Raccoon were obviously added since they are going to be heavily featured in newer comics (both are apparently in the new Avengers team).

And sometimes, like in the case of SFIV, Super and AE, the characters are actually developed after the game comes out. And honestly, I'd rather get a downloadable update than a new $60 disc just for new characters and the same gameplay system. The only time SF should get a numbered sequel is when the gameplay system changes again, as it always had between numbered sequels.

Thats BS. Because it were fighting games that didnt need constant rehashes of a game. Mortal Kombat, Tekken, KOF, and Virtua Fighter all apply. Capcom's fighting games has been doing this since forever. SF2 released 5 versions before stopping that series. SF4 did the same thing. And MvC3 also. People just need to wake up. I know I may sound negative, but it's the cold-hearted truth.

you have a very bad memory then, each franchise damn near has a rehash of some kind.

-VF4 EVO/VF5FS
-KOFXIII/KOFXIII CLIMAX
-MK9(GOTY Edition) yeah that kinda counts
-T5/DR, T6/BR

Updates, in the arcade or not are rehashes bro, but they happen because people either request addition content or the developers wanted to add more content or balance changes, etc.

for console Exclusive games like SCV and stuff have a harder time with this because of DLC being seen in a negative light now and days...

I have no issue with games being supported after release... I just sort of wish that developers would find a way to adopt more of a League of Legends approach to the situation where new characters are added regularly for free, but they continue to generate revenue through vanity sales. (ie outfits, music, alternate stage versions, etc)

I like this idea too. Not making us pay for additional characters, but making them free. That way I wouldn't mind paying for an updated version with ADDITIONAL characters....

Except that someone has to pay for the developer, artists, modelers, QA's salaries.

Actually:
-VF4, VF4 EVO, VF4 Final Tuned
-VF5, VF5 R, VF5 FS

Also:
-TTT2, TTT2 Unlimited
-Guilty Gear XX, Guilty Gear XX Slash, GGXX #Reload, GGXX Accent Core, GGXX AC+, GG XX AC+R
-BlazBlue CS, BBCS2, BBCS EX
-Melty Blood Re-ACT, Melty Blood Act Cadenza, Melty Blood Actress Again, Melty Blood Actress Again Current Code

What people need to realize is, especially for 2D fighters, the amount of changes added to these isn't enough for a full blown sequel. More often than not, a full blown sequel requires an entire overhaul of the gameplay engine. For example, SFI plays nothing like SFII, same with SFIII and SFIV..

I didn't want to get too redundant~ hehe but yes more often then not a FG goes through many revisions....but addition content cost money to well develop, it doesn't come out of thin air nor is it cheap to produce because most developers can't afford to do that kind of thing and not receive any profit from it, you know like paying for the staff to produce the content then the middle man(Sony, MS) to allow the content to be downloaded from their respectful servers....So yeah....People want free but free is not always an option.

My guess to why Tekken's DLC characters are free is because they were already in development awhile ago and we are now seeing light of them, there was no additional cost in reality because that was content set aside for the console version(we have seen this many times before from Tekken). That and seeing the moral backlash Capcom suffered with SFxT's DLC characters may also have effected this to a degree.

If TN did DLC characters(which they said they most likely wont) they would have to be bundled in some sort of Title update in order to compensate for the design cost, so more or less you guess it......a rehash because there is no other way in added such content....for free, but this allows the addition of other content SO....is a DOA5 Hardcore a bad thing? not if you get like 2-3 more characters, new stages and costumes....among other things like balance changes or even overall mechanics changes.

Some of it is down to the planning. They're planned as part of the game and under the original budget, but wont make it in time. The other part however is as PR and a "take that" at Capcom.

P.S. I'd pay for a DOA 5 Hardcore if it implemented most, if not all the changes that DrDogg and Rikuto want.

As a rule of thumb, I'll spend around 15 dollars for an "expansion" of a game and I will be quite happy with it.

But I can not, shall not, will not ever buy a full priced "update". That is pure insanity and is to be frowned upon.

I always skip the second version of a capcom or arc game because I know something else is going to come after it.

I got MVC3, but skipped UMVC3 because I knew that people were pitching bitch fits over missing characters - and if Mass Effct 3 taught me anything its that complaining really loud gets you something nowadays.

Same with BBCS, I downloaded none of the new characters because I smelled a box release coming down the line.

The only exception to this rule, ever, was Super Street Fighter 4 - they added too many characters at a budget price not to get me to pony up.

Well, too bad then that Niitsuma confirmed that they're not working on anything Marvel related and are basically leaving UMvC3 alone, abusive shit and all.:)
