Is It Weird That I Prefer The English Voices?

Growing up with the series, and always hearing those somewhat iconic DOA voices you'd think I'd not want to play with any other voices but the original... but I honestly think they did such a great job with the English voices, something I rarely say with video games that try to do it. I think I like Kasumi's English voice better than her Japanese one. Seems more real... I don't know. Now that the models have been given a 'real' look as opposed to that strange, gloss eyed doll look I haven't even thought about changing the voices back to the original. I think they all work pretty well. Only one I don't really care for is Leifang. Sounds like a little boy. Anyone else feel this way?

Same, I can't remember what she does to annoy me.

This is my first DOA so I didn't imagine the poster girl Kasumi to sound so feeble though, still I like her voice.

Kokoro is my favorite voice though.

Leifang doesn't want to beat Jann Lee.... so wants DA D (Dragon) lol

I actually like some of the new english voices (most of them are garbage though). I wish we had selective voice options like the capcom games. I want Leifang's JP voice (her english VA is probably one of the worst VAs i've ever heard in a game, especially that "Yaaah!" she makes when she gets hit), but i like Kasumi, Hitomi, Bass, Tina, and Kokoro english voice.

Having never owned a DOA game (prior to DOA5) in my life, I've never liked the Japanese voices ever. Except for Helena's.

I never like Japanese voicing in a game, to be honest. I wouldn't say they're horrible, because they're not. Just not my cup'a joe, ya know?

Troy Baker's attempts to make Hayabusa sound like Batman are both cringe-worthy and ridiculous. Sometimes I flip over to English voices for a quick laugh, but in general I don't prefer them at all. English Ayane, Lei Fang, Helena and others just piss me off.

So does Jan Lee, but his new Japanese voice actor does as well. So y'know, fuck me I guess.

I actually thought Hayabusa's english voice was spot on. At one point I had a hard time differentiating the two, he does the fight sounds almost identical and almost sounds the same.

You've been playing too much FFXIII.

Try not to think about the fangirl vibes Snow gives off, and it's a bit more tolerable.

It's a sad day when a guy from Glee does more justice than his current Japanese voice...

As someone who only plays Mila, and Mila having an amazing english voice, I stay english.

Hate Zacks english voice, though.

I do wish you could pick each characters voices individually, though, like street fighter 4.

No I prefer English voice although I kept saying I wish it was like SF4 where you can choose individual voices so I can have characters like Lei Fang set to Japanese. Other than that english for me.

I can't disagree more. I've personally become very attached to Hideyuki Hori's battle cries being shared between DOA and NG, both of which I've poured more hours into than I care to rely. His Japanese voice is always so calm and wise-sounding, whereas Troy Baker makes everything so forced. For example, his win quote's attitude goes from:
"I have perfected my craft" -Japanese
to "Fuck off! BLARGH!" -English

I've never played a Final Fantasy game. No idea who "Snow" is.

Her Japanese voice is almost identical to me. Seriously, not kidding. It's like the same voice, inflections, etc. just now in Japanese.

Yeah, that would be cool.

Oh, good. Wait a while on that one and play the older ones first.

I'm surprised no one brought up the "token loli" vibe of Leifang's English voice. Now that I think about it, she sounds closer to the glitch kid from Wreck-it Ralph. Nothing against her fans and players, but I feel sorry for those who have to play a good Leifang player with... that voice.

Troy Baker is horribly miscast as Hayabusa. He's better as characters that are insanely over the top (Snow) or anti hero/villain protagonists (Jake Muller, The Boss, and Yuri Lowell). Hayabusa is more of a strong silent type, and Troy Baker can't pull that off without sounding campy.

On topic, I like all English voices but Eliot's, Gen Fu's, Leifang's and Hitomi's. My favorite is probably Kasumi's.

Wow. I actually didn't even know that he was voiced by a woman.

Anyway, I despise all the English voices with a passion aside from Jann Lee's, who I think is better than his current Japanese actor, Helena's, and Bass'. Back in Dimensions, I immediately switched the voices to Japanese, so I never even heard most of the English actors in that one. Being a big fan of Tengu, I switched to English once just to hear him and was immediately disgusted by it. His Japanese voice was perfect and the English one just did not do him justice.

In DOA5 I've had to suffer from the English voices a little more because of the pre-patch glitch that would reset your language preference. I would often forget to change it upon booting the game. I never heard this "yahh!" sound from Leifang that others have mentioned though. I'll have to go check it out.

EDIT: Okay, so I just went into training against Leifang with English voices on and knocked her into the wall. What the Fuck?! It doesn't even sound like she's in pain. "Yahh!"
