Letters and Numbers, this is for the beginners that read things like; PP2P, 7K, 8P, or 6P+K, and have no idea at what they are looking at. Letters and Numbers are universal and can be applied in all fighting games. Letters and Numbers are in correlation with attack commands and grabs in fighting games.
Attacks and Grabs (Dead or Alive)
P= Punch
K= Kick
F or H= Free (Block/Hold button)
P+K= Punch and Kick
F+K= Free and Kick
F+P= Free and Punch (Grab)
F or H: Free is not an attack or grab.
Now with numbers you can relate them to the numeric keypad on your keyboard (to the right).
This is the setup on your numeric keypad:

4 5 6
1 2 3
Take a moment and look at your numeric keypad if you have one on your laptop and you should have one if you are using a keyboard.
*For analog users please use your D-Pad for this because it will be easier for you to see what I am about to explain. Then you can go back to your analog once you understand.
Ok, now look at your numeric keypad then your D-Pad, and visualize these numbers on it while you press the directions. If it is easy for you, start with: 2 (pressing Down), 4 (pressing Back), 6 (pressing Forward), and 8 (pressing Up). Then fill in the other numbers.

. . . .8=. . . . .9=
4=. . .*5=Neutral. 6=
1=. . . .2=. . . . . .3=
*5: Is a neutral standing in a 3D fighter and the number is not used in the 3D world. In a 3D fighter 5 is consinder as P (Punch) or K (kick), but P or K is used instead of saying or typing 5P or 5K. 5 is only used in the 2D fighting games.
These numbers are read as if you are always on the left side of the screen. So even when you are positioned on the right side, these numbers are still read as if you are on the left side of the screen. So, 4 will always be "Back", 6 will always be "Forward", 1 will always be(Down and Back), 3 will always be (Down and Forward), and so on.
So now when you see Letters and Numbers next to each other, know that you are reading commands. It is lot easier to read and type out. Saying, "Down and Forward Kick" is just too much work to be typing or saying it, while 3K is much faster and better to deal with.
