Limbo stun option select.

When you are placed in a limbo stun (Doa3), you can employ an option select to better your odds of escaping that particular situation. While in stun, you can Slowescape (to the ground)to avoid any slow launchers. However, if your opponent uses a fast launching attack, you will not be able to Slowescape fast enough, resulting in you getting launched. A way around this is to slowescape than:
  • :9::F:
  • :6::F:
  • :3::F:
This will result in you DH'ing while back turned. The beauty of this, if your opponent does anything other than an attack, you will simply Slowescape to the ground. This being an option select do not remove all of the dangers presented to you. If you DH incorrectly to a corresponding attack, you will get hit with an attack. Against certain characters, they will allow you to Slowescape to the floor so that they will get a guaranteed ground throw/pickup.

You could even "Stagger Escape" by mashing the Defensive Hold Level you want to do. It registers as a Stagger Escape, but the problem is that you would be limiting how much the Stagger Escape meter is increased.

To clarify what was said, you will only show the Defensive Hold if the opponent performs an Attack. You will not show the Defensive Hold if the opponent does a Throw. This means the Defensive Hold will only appear if the opponent performs a physical attack. This is what is called an "Option Select": Performing the same input but getting two or more different positive results depending on the opponent's actions.

The only negative result would be the opponent doing an attack at a different Hit Level than the Defensive Hold Level performed. Since the opponent performs an attack, the player in limbo stun will perform a defensive hold, and since the attack is at a different hit level it will put the player in stun again.

you mean like a fall down faster button?

No, you rotate your d-pad or analog, which ever one you play with. Pressing buttons while doing that will allow you to fall faster, but depending on the character you use you may get accidental moves/holds to come out.

What they are saying is, when playing a DOA that has the limbo stun in it (DOA2, DOA3), you can slow escape and possibly hold the launcher that your opponent will follow up with or you can just slow escape to the floor. There isn't a "fall down faster button".

it's not an "or". You enter the same commands, and what your opponent does determines how your character responds.

You can literally just mash :4::F: and your two results will be either Option 1: Stagger Escaping to the floor faster, or Option 2: Holding mid. You do not get to decide which option is done, the game decides for you based on what your opponent does. If your opponent does a striking attack then you will do Option 2, if your opponent does a Throw, Hold, or Idle stance then you will fall to the ground. The only way the opponent can win in this is if they predict you mashing mid and decide to attack high or low, in that case you will fall victim to Option 2 and be stun extended for holding mid and being hit high/low. You can effectively Defensive Hold without fear of being throw punished.

I know mashing :6::F: will net you the same result as SE~:6::F: to DH mid launchers, however, It is more effective to SE~:9::F:,:6::F:,or :3::F:. This is due to you being able to enter into the DH phase much quicker, and giving you enough time to chose which hold to do...as well as SE faster to the ground if your opponent input anything other than attacks.

Correction:

Only Doa3 had option select with limbo stuns. All versions of Doa2 allowed you to SE~DH no matter what your opponent is doing. In other words, your DH will execute regardless when activated. You can also get into the DH phase of the limbo stun much faster in Doa2.
