Due to the recent interview of TN, Mr Shimbori stated that he was worried about the modding scene.
In reaction to that, I wanted to say a few things in regard to the future modding community. I created this thread in order for people that want to mod this game to agree to follow some sort of "code".
The key word : respect.
-1) let's do a little situation check :
If you google the right words, you can easily find nude mod of DOA5U, even if it's on consol. You can find "porn" movies with the girls, and a lot's of other disrespectful crap toward the cast.
The actual situation is on a different league in comparison to what it was in "ninja hacker's days", and unlike Mr Itagaki at his time, TN can't really hope to do anything.
My point is that from a developper's point of view, what could they fear ? Can the situation be worst than it already is ? Yes.
Not qualitatively, but quantitatively. With a PC version, modding will be a lot easier, and thus the possible amount of mods will considerably goes up. We can fear that a huge and wild modding community appear and destroy DOA's image, way more than any bikini DLC.
We can also fear that "modding" mutate into "hacking", and that online play become a graveyard for normal players.
Those two points are what I can see as a threat for DOA, and it may not be everything Mr Shimbori have in mind. Be free to complet the list.
-2) Can we do something about this ?
Educate.
We are all human, and I don't intend to spit on every person out there that want to see his favorite character in full anatomical view. If you want to do a nude mode or any other mode that could be regarded as disrespectful toward the licence, it's your problem and you HAVE to keep it private. When you're modding, keep in mind that you're playing with things you don't own. You can do everything that you want, but keep it away from the public place.
-3) Is a respectful and creative modding community is possible ?
Yes again. All we have to do is keeping in mind what we can show to the world, and what we can't. If you want to share a mode, but you think that it could harm any other person than those interested in it, there also exist places for that. Informe yourself before acting.
I was really happy to see a PC version coming, and i still am. We can make a great modding community, i'm sure of that. Many DOA fans are creative and skilled persons, I have fait in them to do mods that TN could be proud of.
My global message :
-Show what you can show, hide what you mustn't
-Be respectful toward the characters, the developers and the fans.
-If you have any question, ask the others before doing something stupid. This thread is also for that.
I asked many question and tried to answer them myself, but feel free to give me your own.
