Chosen1 did the same thing by claiming he was a Madden champion (I'm still looking for proof of this, Sebastian...), and that got him into WCG UG.
.
Wrong, Chosen1 got on WCG Ultimate gamer because he was a loud boisterous black man who could articulate himself. In his gamer interview on youtube little to no mention was made of his madden cred - Which I'm sure hes got some. . . every-bodies the champion of their own living room right?
He stole the title of champion and was thus given foothold into opportunities he never earned. When a businessman comes into a gaming community looking for high-profile people, he wants to talk to as few people as he has to in order to get what he's looking for. This is why the whole "is master legit?" situation was never re-evaluated, and he has effectively stolen years worth of opportunities. So how is this not stealing? Where is the integrity?
.
The more I look into pre-cgs past I begin to see where Master actually had justification in calling himself the best at the time. DID1 was won by Master, which at that time was the biggest DOA tournament, then he placed second at evo where all the best players were and then he won DID2.
So, technically, when the CGI came knocking, who was the most credentialed? Master.
But what I see wrong is when Manny goes to an event and blocks out everyone else, while managing to weasel in lesser players, girlfriends and personal friends instead to ensure he is the only one in high placement with his contacts.
Once again, not entirely accurate. Master has lost more DID's than hes won and during the time the CGS was active he won a grand total of 1, DID 2. So they saw him lose, everyone knows hes lost and master isn't exactly a superstar in the world of pro-gaming - look at his youtube channel, 15k views max and the average is a few thousand.
If anything Mamba winning all of the money he won, Offbeat winning all the money he won and everyone who was able to (quote-un-qoute) legitimately get onto the CGS should have put a stake in Masters reputation as the best but it didn't and its their fault.
You're blaming Master for being braggadocios and having an ego - he talked himself up and put himself in a position to make decisions. If you had the contacts that Master had there wouldn't have been any tournaments coming from you because your love for the game is conditional, he wears DOA like a badge of honor. He is the face of DOA because he loves it and he doesn't go out into the masses and tell people everything thats wrong with the damn game.
Thats the difference.
If Mamba actually gave a shit he would have been hosting tournaments post CGS and stripping away the notion that Master is the only guy holding big events but the fact is that he got paid, he didn't really like the game that much and he moved on. Thats his prerogative but you don't get to come back years later complaining about the opportunities that passed you by when you were driving your own car.
I respect Master, yeah, because he supported a game that would have been completely dead if many of you had your say. You think the patches you wanted didn't get done because of DOA Master? Could have swore it was Itigaki in a 1up.com interview talking about how he had created the "prefect fighter". Is it masters fault that Team Ninja wanted to make more money on Ninja Gaiden and Metroid Other M? I'm not insinuating anyone has made these claims but I'm just pointing out one of the many disappointments that Master had nothing to do with.
And I'm sure that everyone ignoring his response to the Tom Brady vid's had nothing to do with him distancing himself further from the competitive community. . .because lets be honest, why would I trap myself on an airplane for a 12 hour trip to Japan and then be forced to spend 3 nights in close proximity with people who hate my guts - because you all would love to go spend a night at Masters pad right?
Oh, wait, thats right PERFECT LEGEND WAS SUPPOSED TO GO BUT HE GOT SNOWED IN.
Jesus Fucking Christ.
This here? This is how a company should be treating their top players. Not just running on the assumption that one guy is the best simply because he says so and that he should be allowed to call all of the shots. That's beyond poor form.
Again - reference the above postings - you have to look at who was where at the time. Master, when CGS came knocking Manny was in fact the most accomplished and biggest personality at the time. Afterwards, no, leading up to that point, yes.
Blame Master all you want but this is a big shit sandwich and you all laid some doo butter on the bread.
