Something to do in the meantime

Can anyone please give me something to do while I wait for this game? Dead or Alive is like the only game I've ever genuinely considered myself to be good at and I genuinely love the games. If I had more money I would travel for tournaments no problem. But this wait is killing me. September 25th is so close but so far away. I tried Soulcalibur 5 but realized that that game must be some kind of joke. It doesn't have to be a fighting game, just something to distract me from the wait.

(I really hope this post is ok. I don't know if we have to be discussing the game exclusively or something. If I'm breaking the rules or something, I'm sorry!)

Ah sorry. I kinda figured it would go in the forum because it's about the game (indirectly). Um, I assume that's an emulator? I was kinda thinking more along the lines of a console?

After playing DOA i couldnt really play other fighting games. I mean i own many but they were just impulse buys and i only played them for a bit. Didn't invest much time getting better at. But i guess second to best to DOA would be MK9 or Tekken 6 since you didnt seem to like Soul Calibur.

Oh yeah? I've never played the Virtua Fighter series. I've heard it's super technical, which, if I'm being honest with myself, is not really my strong suit. How does it compare to Dead or Alive? I appreciate your help by the way!

VF5FS. You really might want to start getting good at that game if you still want to consider yourself good at DOA.

For non fighting games. Try the ninja gaiden games, and not really relevant but Left 4 Dead 2 is a great game to kill time.

Haha ok, it seems like Virtua Fighter 5 is highly recommended. I mean, if it'll help me get better technically, I don't see why not. And I played the first two Ninja Gaiden games. I heard the 3rd one was a huge bummer though. Anything would be better than playing the DoA5 alpha demo again haha.

Wont only help ypu to get better technically, you will also have a lot of fun with it... and you could even play Akira or Sarah if you feel like starting to get a feeling for them for DOA5... like im not sure (and i dont think) they will transfer over 100%, but at least you wont go like what the flying fuk is going on the first time you see a sarah player cancel a move into flamingo entry and proceed to rape you cause you freezed ^_^.

To me when i heard VF was closest to DOA, i was pretty shocked. Because to me VF is so different than DOA fighting wise, and the whole feel of it.

I feel like that about every fighter compared to DOA, but of all the games ive played, Virtua Fighter best suits DOA

Yeah same. DOA is the most different for me. MK is like street fighter. Tekken to me is closest to VF and Soul calibur is pretty unique in the sense they have weapons, but it probably plays most like Tekken?

Oh we can swear on here? Thank god.

I completely forgot Akira and Sarah were VF characters originally. Yeah I'll definitely have to check them out. I'm downloading the game as we speak. Also, Megaman sounds like SO MUCH FUN now that I read that post. Damn, I'll have to get that too.

How is DOA different than VF, they use the same exact button layout. Of course VF mechanics are lmore cohesive and actually work as they should compared to the last DOA game, but at a basic level they're quite similar. Which is why the VF characters can fit in DOA5 with little compromise.

I agree, i believe DOA is the game which is most similar to VF... specially in the system mechanics... the idea of strikes beating throws for example comes from VF (in VF, just like in DOA, if a character does a throw and the other character manages to START a strike (like even if youre in total disadvantage, if the disadvantage you are at allows your strike to at least get into startup, even if its not active frames...), then the strike will beat the throw 100% of the time, unlike for example in tekken when you can get thrown out strikes.) That will happen because the strike PROPERTY of an attack will always beat the throw property of a throw... that is something that vf started with and doa implemented (and built up on with the inclussion of holds).

I see DOA as the child of VF, with DOA being a little bit simpler because of the punish system (its easier to punish with a throw than with a combo, specially since the combo depends on the launcher... which depends on the frame disadvantage... etc etc), the simpler oki system, and the simpler execution. Thats not to say VF is better than DOA, but doa is just the simpler game.

EDIT: not to forget that doa gives you a way to mend your fuck ups via holds (even though TN is (thank god) introducing unholdable stuns and other ways to get guaranteed dmg), whereas in VF if u fucked up... well you fucked up and youre either in a really bad mixup situation with ur opponent on +frames, or already in the air taking huge loads of damage.

VF and DOA are very VERY similar, more so than people think.
Triangle system exsists in both, stun shaking/slow escaping, evasions, wall advantage, wakeup, free/guard canceling, string delay, multiple types of stun with different properties, the rediculous amount of 50/50s.. I can go on and on..
The only thing VF is slightly tougher in is excecution.. and even that has been toned down drasticly in VF5FS..

If you wanna get good at DOA... VF is deffinately a solid starting point.
