The trailer for Spies vs. Mercs was just released for Blacklist and I'm incredibly amped.

Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow contained what is, to me, the single greatest multiplayer experience of all time. It had an incredibly steep learning curve and the upper echelon of players were all well known to each other. I still remember entire matches and how tense and exciting it was. Of the DoA community, only Silent Legend and RyuJin ever really ended up playing with me and they can let you know a bit more about my level of skill, but it'll have to be enough for me to simply say I was very good at both Spy and Merc sides.

Back then it was only 2 on 2 and was incredibly tense. The maps were all very dark, the Spies were supposed to be weak and timid when caught, and the Mercs were supposed to be juggernauts and incredibly lethal. What myself and a few other players started to pioneer was the Rambo Spy who took advantage of some of the skills provided to play the game in a completely different way and the entire community changed because of it. In a time where patches were few and far between the Mercs were actually given protection from a lot of the tactics we devised, including making Spies get electrocuted and stunned if they tried to jump on a Merc as they were rising. That was something that would kill them before if their partner wasn't around to stop it but we'd gotten so aggressive that the devs felt the need to protect the already lethal Mercs.

It was glorious.

Anyway I could rant all day, but after multiple games getting it wrong (and Conviction outright axing the mode), Blacklist appears to have gotten it right. The lighting, the tension, and the gadgets are all true to form and the addition of 4 on 4 looks to have been balanced perfectly to preserve the tension. If you think 4 players removes it because the Mercs can simply stay together, just know that you're wrong. The Mercs can't stay together or they'll leave the objectives completely unguarded. It's a very well thought out system and I can't wait to dig in. The trailer is below!

I'm definitely interested in Blacklist, but I've been very disappointed with the direction that Splinter Cell has taken post-Chaos Theory. I'll likely still pick the game up, I already went ahead and pre-ordered it ages ago too. I just hope that it's actually good.

I'm getting it solely for Spies vs. Mercs. I liked Conviction, even got all the achievements including the DLC ones, but the single player just wasn't SC anymore. No SvM killed a lot of the value for me. This looks damn perfect. Chaos Theory had great single player but the SvM in that was a lot worse than PT. They went the wrong way and kept doing that until they killed the mode. This has re-kindled my excitement quite a bit.

Yeah, I'm talking more along the lines of the campaign. Unfortunately, I never truly got to play SvM. I've never played PT's version. I only played the CT version a few times. I got to play a bit more of the DA version, but I thought it was terrible. Hopefully they don't fuck it up, but developers tend to enjoy doing that these days.

I'm really gonna miss Ironside as Sammy Fisher. This new guy's voice just doesn't sit right with Fisher's persona in my opinion....
By the way, what happened to characters being motion capped by a different person than whom voiced the character? Ubisoft missed that memo for Blacklist. Don't really see why Ironside had to go and why someone so young came in to fill such seasoned boots.

PT and DA were the only Splinter Cells I skipped unfortunately, but I guess I'll try out Blacklist and hop on the Mercs vs Spies. Looks fun.
I was more the co-op guy since Chaos Theory.

Ironside wanted to stop. He didn't even want to do Conviction either, but decided to stay on because he liked the script. I also agree that it's just not the same though. They really should have just made a new protagonist.

Ah splinter cell

Love the series and played them all

Chaos theory and double agent (for the original Xbox) were the best

My 2 favourite game series after NG

Conviction was meh and very short >.>

Can't wait for blacklist

I need a source because this information just breaks my heart.

Only information I gathered is that Ubisoft wanted someone else that could do motion capture and have his facial expressions also recorded during mocapped interrogation sequences -- you know, to give it that cinematic edge every game is going for these days.
I say we don't need that weak ass young actor. His voice over work I've heard is terrible -- mediocre at best, thus far.

I'll play single player for achievements only. SvM is the single biggest draw for me and that's coming from a huge series fan.

I'm not gonna lie. SvM is getting me excited for multiplayer, no doubt. I'm just bummed about the nostalgic voice going away forever. I was what, 12 when I played the first? That voice is iconic.

This is the age of reboots, so its should be no surprise to me. I know I'll get over it eventually, but I just wish Ubisoft knew how pissed I was when I saw who replaced the legendary Sammy Fisher. Kinda doesn't make any sense if you take a stab at how old he should be now -- aside from the point that this is a continuation, not a prequel.

I remember getting into the mercy spawn on the, warehouse level an giggling like a little bitch everytime they respawned into a hail of smoke grenades and double jumps off the filing cabinet.

But as fun as that was it was always more fun taking down spies. They were so powerful that knocking them off was one of the most exhilarating gaming experiences I'd partaken in up to that point. I skipped chaos theory because of college and the BS they shoveled out with double agent was so bad that I traded in the game as soon as I beat the single player mode.

I hope this isn't bullshit because behind Mass Effect 3 this was my most anticipated game of
2012/2013.

We all know what happened there......

Indeed sir. Indeed.

Though I RAPED the multiplayer of Mass Effect 3. Its addictive as hell. Finally have all characters since a couple weeks ago -- now all thats left is getting all weapons and leveling them to 10.

Found no reason to play through the campaign again-- especially after beating the extended cut.
Read about all other single player DLCs.

It seems you are also a veteran then. Most people don't remember the glory days of care free double jumping Mercs. You know, before they turned Mercs into human tazers for a bit when they woke up despite it making no sense. The only frustrating thing I remember about it was the way the game handled latency. Hard to shoot Spies as a Merc and elbowing Mercs as a Spy despite being directly behind them, with the latter usually resulting in death.

Good shit. I'll be really impressed if you can, from memory, tell me how to do the teleport glitch or even what it was. Completely broke the game but made Warehouse a blast if you were a Spy and turned you into the best grenade lobbing Merc in the world after you realized how to stop things. It was fun to teleport into the next areas and start hacking things the second the terminals went live haha.

Pandora stupid ass game once you got to level 6 or 7 everyone would be doing the double jump glitch. Mercs were free until CT came along then only good spies would win.

Well if he's talking early splinter cell.pt on certain levels bad to average mercs were free vs average to good spies.

I had a conversation With a guy on my list about Dark Souls. He claims the game is easy for him.
I felt he was nuts until he explained how cautious he was playing and how if a situation got out of hand he'd just book it back to the bonfire and try again. Taken in that context it probably was easy - tedious but easy.

So if accurate is saying it was easy for him...until I get access to a time machine I'll take his word.

But frankly, if I get that ability, im going back specifically to play mechassualt and unreal championship 2.

Again, we're getting off topic ...

I don't like the helicopter bomb, i dont think mercs need that, and hope it gets taken away. Im a merc and that just looks too easy.

I want re-vamped versions of the Warehouse, Mall, and Cinema. Actually I'd love all of the maps besides Vertigo, which had way too much empty space.
