Splinter Cell

PT was easy for anyone who knew you could jump on a merc right after you shocked them so basically.. You tap x shock the merc, tap x again and jump on the mercs head while they're still in shock state. Thats the reason they made the merc a human tazer on wake up

Right and after that patch the game got much harder for Spies as there were other tweaks and nerfs if you recall. In any case, I enjoyed the challenge and some of the maps were balanced more on the Merc side as well. Removing all glitches from the equation, Spies were no better than Mercs overall. The game was only truly interesting when all four players were at the top of their game but when you got into one of those matches it was an experience like no other.

You can talk all you want about the game being too easy on one side or another but I don't see that as any different from nearly every team-based game ever. Some maps favor specific sides but teams working together properly (Mercs actually using their vision modes and having intersecting patrol paths, Spies staying together until they secure an area properly with gadgets and then splitting up to hit multiple terminals, etc.) will still come out with the win nearly every time. The glitches were almost all in favor of the Spies with the exception of the one where you couldn't get neck-snapped as a Merc.

I can only imagine how terrible I'll be at SvM since I never truly played it before. Mostly just the shitty DA version with randoms.

What? The most effective way to play the game as a spy would be to choose the best load out which never changed- flash, chaff, smoke and sticky cam. Next you would employ one of the two strategies: A. Jump a single merc by shocking the merc in the visor, which would eliminating the hud and then quickly shooting all three grenades at them which would leave them without any vision assistance, blind and slow. B. Putting a merc to sleep next to to their own mine and shooting it. In PT these strategies were unbeatable because there was no gas mask and the merc had no beserk move. In PT the Spy won easily if they knew what they were doing... Then in Chaos Theory they added the gas mask, shotgun and sub machine gun and the merc was on even playing field as long as they always had a gas mask.

Your strategy assumes the other Merc is not with striking distance of their partner and in PT they almost always should be. That strat would be suicide against a good team. It worked great against randoms and even better if your partner also locked down the other Merc, but it can be countered pretty easily. That's true of most of the best strategies, actually.
