I have a feeling MR was intended to be Russian as well (especially given her stated fighting style of systema) but they changed it to Sweden given the inside joke of underage fighters in DOA. XD

lol that would've been awesome if Marie was Russian, give her an accent and everything xD
But they may as well would have made Marie Australian because DOA was banned in Australia too
