I'm really easy to please, to be honest. As long as the stage is pretty I'm happy. Zack Island and Forest are boxes but they're gorgeous.

Temple of the Dragon is a good stage. Stairs, ceilings, breakable objects, breakable floors, and an exit to Sakura. Home is pretty good too, but I get really scared fighting certain characters in it (especially Lei Fang now)

I never saw anyone say that they wouldn't want stages like those to come back. And no it wasn't, it was one of the most exciting stages in DOA4 and the likeliness of even getting hit by a car/cheetah is as likely as getting hit by the tigers in the circus stage and the car may be even less since they try to move to the side when they see you
I won't say that I enjoy it, but some of my most memorable fights involve stuff like that.

In fact, there are boxes and boxes. I mean, a stage with only one level is not inevitably a box, and this was the problem with the most of the stages in DOA5 vanilla. Every "one level" stage was made from 4 walls in a square, with nothing inside. Zack island and Forest are really different for me. We don't have these 4 walls, we can see very far after the limits of the stage, and they are big, there are trees.... And sometimes, a single fight isn't enough to see all the stage... This is what I like in DOA stages: They have to be some real maps and not just a ring. They have to be a place to explore.

I remember there being something about the devs saying that Flow, Primal, and Sanctuary were all going to be one stage, but they thought that the stage was too big. So, there must have been some intent in making the stages more confined for DOA5. Maybe to inhibit running away...?

Flow and Primal are one stage... Yeah, in the Sanctuary there really is the raft too. I often wondered, what that was about. :)

Could be a hardware limitation. I'm guessing they weren't sure they could have both Sanctuary, Flow and Primal linked together since the first two together probably take up alot of memory

I miss daotech tower, snowy forest, that 3 tiered castle, the ninja fortress, the underwater hallway, and the ice cavern from 3.

And the Vegas strip, the savannah, and the infinite doatech tower hallways from 4.

Plus the clock tower, snow cliff, forest bridge, and test tube area from 2.

Only stage I even remotely liked from 5 was the water stage. Clown stage hazards caused too much bouncing.

As I said previously I hardly think the missing stages or the new structure of these stages is dependant on HW limitations.
It's rather a precise choice they made in the attempt to cather more to the tournament people.
It's not the only choice, it's just one of a series.

I'm torn concerning this issue. I apreciate that finally people are "waking up" and seeing DoA as more of a BEU that can be serious and not just tits & asses.
On the other hand though this brought in the consequences that we've been discussing so far over the last pages and of course I can't say I'm happy about them.

My favorite stage from vanilla was hands down Sanctuary. It still is one of the coolest stages and I wish there were more areas of the map that you could fight on within that temple. I'm guessing if it was apart of the other stages like they originally planned you could enter sanctuary from primal by going through that bar gate entrance.

Now in Ultimate it will most likely be Haunted Lorelei but for now I really like Lost World especially since I never played DOA 3.

Flow and Primal were two separate stages before we were ever made aware of them. The idea was that they would be 3 separate stages that were linked just like Flow and Primal are now. Since the raft from Flow is in the background of Sanctuary, the original speculation was that you could knock your opponent into the raft just like any regular stage transition. The raft would then somehow float up until it gets stuck on that tree, which then leads to the regular Flow to Primal transition..

The issue with HW may be because both Sanctuary and Flow are pretty extensive. Sanctuary is a large stage with alot of objects that you can interact with while Flow has the whole tunnel that the raft travels through. Notice that most stages with 3 transitions are smaller. It's easy to deduce that the transition from Sanctuary to Flow was cut simply because it would have been hard to keep all that in memory. Keep in mind that the game now has to also run on a platform with stricter memory limits (PS3) on top of having better graphics than its predecessor, while, at the same time, maintaining a constant 60fps (for comparison, most AAA games these days DO NOT run on 60fps).

I just got called "boring" for throw punishing some shitty Kasumi online. It went something like, "All you do is throw constantly you're so boring!".

Reminds me of when a person in DOA4 bitched me out for doing air juggles, cause there is no way to defend against them, and mixing ups my combo's because he said me doing that stopped him from being able to counter me.
If you think that's bad, try being in my shoes for 5 minutes.

What you're experiencing is paradise by comparison.

But going top hard on someone who obviously cant keep up is also disrespectful, if not more so.
From what I experienced, if someone flat out doesn't like you, anything they do in a match is disrespectful. The rest is just rose-colored glasses nonsense.

The only cure for this stigma is to be liked by everyone as a person, which is why seeking acceptance from everyone has been a priority for me.
