I tolerated Conviction. Only played through the single player but definitely wasn't fully enjoyable because you had scenes where you were forced to dogfight. I hate running and gunning. I would say I disliked double agent more than conviction though.

Double agent wasn't great but at least it still played like a splinter cell game lol. I beat conviction, but I just couldn't stomach it. It wasn't splinter cell to me.

I gotta say...

I was kinda disappointed in PASBR.

Also, I like how Sony is pitching the vita as a controller with its own screen - similar to the WiiU. Unfortunately, it's something I see only Sony, EA, and Ubisoft taking advantage of, and Sony's the only one who could do it well.

I don't care much about Playstation Smash Bros. Never did. Might grab it for my Vita, though. Sony absolutely killed Microsoft this year, though. The Last of Us? Beyond? Hell, nearly every game they showed was either impressive or phenomenal. Didn't care for their "Look, we can do family stuff too!" garbage, but the rest was pretty awesome.

Just to avoid me having to repeat myself, I'm going to post my largely order-less notes from my Facebook:

E3 Day -2 Thoughts:

Microsoft had another terrible showing. Smart Glass is interesting in concept but nobody is going to set their controller down to pick up a tablet or phone to do something, then pick their controller back up to keep playing consistently. It'll be another gimmick like Kinect, but without the somewhat useful secondary functions of Kinect.

Oh look, another Gears of War. Should have gone out on a high note.
Tomb Raider looks excellent. Poor Lara.
Assassin's Creed 3 looks phenomenal. The Vita title looks...dodgy. We'll see how that one pans out. The naval sequence shown during the Sony presser was pretty rad.
Dead Space 3 should not be a fucking co-op game, EA. Did you assholes miss the entire reason people found Dead Space and, even more so, Dead Space 2 incredible? Even with an AI partner the atmosphere is altered dramatically and you're fucking morons.
Battlefield 3 Premium...about, oh, eight months too late jackasses.
No Mirror's Edge 2? Instead you act like nobody remembers the train wreck that was Medal of Honor and hype up its paint-by-numbers sequel? Go to hell.
Oh look! Sony knows how to make "family experiences" too! Dear corporations: do not debut the shit that you make for kids at a trade show that only adults watch. Most of us couldn't give any less of a damn about it. Including people WITH kids.
Far Cry 3 looks pretty good but I'm a bit worried the gameplay won't be fresh enough for people to care.
Beyond. Holy fuck.
Watch_Dogs: Double holy fuck and would be game of the show if not for the next game...
The Last of Us: Game of Show. Everyone else can go home. Beyond comes close but doesn't show enough gameplay and Watch_Dogs comes REALLY close but got barely edged out.
And that's it for major stuff from the first day. Sony's presser killed Microsoft. Wasn't even fair. Can't wait for all of the DoA5 stuff tomorrow. I think I'll just read a synopsis of Nintendo's conference because listening to how out of touch Nintendo continues to be for yet another year is getting depressing.

You guys have to realize, too, that these press conferences are also done for stockholders, who like to see the companies showing off a wide portfolio of stuff (including the kids stuff) that will generate press that will (in their hopeful minds) drive up stock worth. This is not just for the entertainment of the gaming audience.

That said, I find it amusing how no one here made even the SLIGHTEST mention of Resident Evil 6. The Last of Us basically came out and said "Go crawl into a cave and get pummeled by Gears of War!! All your survival-horror fanbase are belong to us!!!"

This:

And this:

... and Microsoft can just go home, while Nintendo goes on an acid trip or something.

Then there is still the new God of War game:

Also, I see potential in PASBR, though, it didn't exactly have a great showing. Better would've been just running a nice long trailer with a bunch of highlights of the game to the tune of really cool, thematic music (some from the games of various featured characters for a nice touch) rather than having a gameplay match demo with team members playing at a slightly above casual level. A game like this doesn't show well on a big stage when you have THE ABOVE splattering people's minds!!!

Should've just been THIS, but longer:

Almost nothing but crap so far, same as every E3 in the last 5 years.. Although Beyond and Last of Us look like good rentals. I was looking forward to 3 games, and I'm pretty sure they're all cancelled - Project Ogre, Last Guardian, Devil's Third. Hopefully we'll see some worthwhile DOA5 footage today because I definitely don't care about Wii U.

Nobody mentioned RE6 because it looked terrible, most likely. Seriously awful.

As for your stockholders idea about the conferences, GO...LOL no. That's what earnings calls are for and why things are often announced in them. These are purely for show and spectacle and are incredibly expensive. Not a stockholder in existence likes these and even less when they're not immensely successful. This is the whole reason the Big 3 have talked multiple times of just ending E3. It's not cost effective.

Stockholders. Heh.

I wonder if MS had decided to do a teaser for the next XBox if that would have changed anything.
Probably not.
They had me for the first 20 mins until they decided to go all 'media'. Basically brought everything to a crawl. And I reckon they could have started with Gears, had COD in the middle, and finished off with Halo 4. Would have left a better taste in my mouth.
Still though, NHL!

E3, partically, E3 press conferences, is all about generating press. Mainly, generating more press (positive press) than direct competitors. This, in turn, typically leads to generating more profits down the road, which puts nicer looking numbers on the quarterly/yearly earnings sheets that matter at the end of the all. At least, that would be the theory. And that is how the stockholders look at it. Of course, there are good reasons why this doesn't work as smooth as theory about half of the time, but this is the reason why basically every entertainment industry has big grand-scale festivals (granted, some festivals do focus more on showing product, it's usually beneficial to help lesser-known stuff get some buzz), conventions, trade-shows, etc. It's all about generating press (and to a lesser extent, positive word-of-mouth through various people, functioning as free advertising).

If it were really just about the games, then all they would show and talk about would be the games, with no need for focusing so much on presenting such a broad portfolio of products and services to the masses. But since the latter is clearly true, then obviously the show is about more than what most gamers "want" the show to be about.

If all you are interested in is the games, then stop focusing so much on the press conferences, and focus more on all the reveals, interviews, clips, etc. that gets released by basically every game journalism source on the planet throughout the days following the press conferences.
