The Secret World

Just wondering if anyone else plays this game. I picked it up last month and loved it over christmas.

For those who don't know, TSW (The Secret World) is an occult/horror Pay Once, Play Forever (as of last month) MMO.
The game is in a modern setting featuring places such as London and New York. Weapon wise? You're looking at Assault rifles, Hammers, Elemental magic, Blood magic, Rocket Launchers and Shotguns to name a few.

One big note, this game is not easy. I don't mean playing isn't easy... The game is hard. The dungeons are amazingly fun with tactics from the start and a tank and spank usually involves at least a little mechanic. The one complaint with WoW and other MMO's I've had lately is how simple it is to walk in and finish the game (started fresh about a month after Pandaria came out and "completed" the game within 2 weeks).
Here... nope. Walked into my first Nightmare tier dungeon, these are the old dungeons buffed for well geared players with additional mechanics added into the fights as well as all the original ones, and the progression was tough and one hell of a welcome challenge compared to a lot of other games I've played lately.

What I found really captivating about the game is there is no real level and your skill build is pretty much up to you. You can wield two weapons at once plus an auxiliary weapon. So I use Elementalist/Pistols as my main setup and a Rocket Launcher as my auxiliary.
Builds are made up of 14 skills, 7 active and 7 passive that you can swap in and out outside of combat, much like the original Guild Wars system except that was limited to changing abilities in outposts.

Back to levels anyway. Unlike typical MMO's where you level, get stuff, perhaps pick a talent each "level" you will gain (across the course of the level) 3 Ability Points and 1 Skill Point. You get 1 AP every 40K (approx.) exp and 1 SP every 120K (approx.) exp. Skill points are used for weapon skills whilst Ability points are used for your abilities (or skills as you might more commonly think of them from other MMO's and RPG's alike). These points are entirely up to you where they go though. You aren't stuck to just one tree. My build borrows from 4 different tree's for passive abilities to boost my DPS. Active abilities however are limited to the weapons you have equipped. So you can't use a Fist active ability if you don't have a fist weapon equipped. You can however use passives from the tree.

Now to say it has no levels is a little untrue but not far from true. What you can do, dungeon and quest wise, is based upon your gear really. Once you get max skill in a weapon a quick trip to the Auction House will pick you up an average quality weapon for that skill level and you are pretty much ready for anything then.

For those who like story? Well you do get more here than normal I think. Each quest has a little FMV before it (can skip them, so don't worry if you are just one of those rush ahead people) which I really appreciated. Some of the characters you interact with throughout the games main story quest are brilliant. Some of the quests... scary, creepy and weird. Everything you could hope for from a game based on the occult. I'm happy to admit that there was one quest that made me jump and scream in the middle of the day.

I've probably missed some details along the way but I'm pretty sure I have offered the general gist of the game to people who don't know.
For anyone that does, feel free to send me a message online. I'm just starting out in nightmares (ffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu) and loving it even more.
Oh final note, cross server dungeons and groups =D

I played a trial a while ago. Yea the game is definitely not easy at all. SOME parts are a little mmo-ish, but for the most part its really unique as hell. The investigative aspects are leaps and bounds over the typical "fetch me 20 of that there flower growing around that purty mountain".

I enjoyed it, but I'm to hooked onto swtor to really play any other mmo. Nice right up though. I might check it out again as a nice change of pace from constant pvping in swtor.
