"Nothing is as frustrating as arguing with someone who knows what he's talking about."

Once upon a time I used to argue with people on this site with a very regular frequency. I’d huff, puff, snarl, growl and write a whole lot of mean, cool sounding stuff to try and get my point across. In retrospect it often amounted to foolishness because, at times, I found myself debating arguments without a complete view of the situation. Leading this week’s top 5 forum threads is one, authored by Grap3fruitman, that devolved into such inanity.
I get it: “Why are we promoting this?”, “Why is this news worthy?”, “These kinds of breakdowns are nothing new here.”
That’s the point, “It’s nothing new.” We’ve been doing this same song and dance for years on end, so at some point we’d hope that hindsight would help inform our conversational decorum. All I’m asking is that we all be a little more thoughtful about the things we post and the way we treat each other. Before you hit that send button, do a little introspection and think about the consequences of what you’re about to say. . .maybe you're wrong, maybe you're right but THINK before you REGRET.
Personal attacks, baseless character assassination, nonconstructive criticism – let’s ball all of these up, shine em’ up real nice, turn them sombitches sideways and NOT . . . .stick them up each others candy asses.
Just press delete instead.
To get an idea of what I was just going on about, read through this thread.
After you’ve pulled your face out of your palm, here are four other topics that’ll raise your spirits.

Ask Rikuto something. . .anything =D
Feedback that will influence an upcoming interview.
The Eliot sub-section is barren! Lets fix that!

This guy was almost the president.

Think about that shit.

Play DOA.

(P.s. There is also the ignore button, maybe we can use that sometimes?)

Is it really such a baseless opinion that merits calling it an inanity? He's pointing out frame advantage and a small stun threshold before CB-- which are indeed gone or diminished significantly in these new iterations of DOA. And quite frankly, he wasn't the only one whom also thinks this is disappointing news.

What's going on in these forums is tyranny. I agree that the topic got out of hand with the personal attacks on character and irrelevance to the topic itself -- it being "Shit we lost". But difference in opinion isn't something I agree should be shut out because you don't agree. Where's discussion if we can't have different opinions?

It has nothing to do with Tyranny, much as I love saying that.

Grap3 has a long and checkered history starting bullshit up around this very topic and having absolutely zero idea what he is actually talking about. The only reason he ever starts up these "discussions" is so he can eventually escalate it into a crusade about how much he hates team ninja, and how we're all terrible people because we don't share his point of view on everything. It is trolling at its purest form and will not be tolerated.

You have to remember that Grap3 is a person who does not even play this game. Nor has he really played much of the rest of the series -- he just mimics things that other people have told him and attempts to start controversial topics with them.

For example, one of the big points he made was how Bayman's :236::K: used to be +9 on block, and it's a horrible injustice that it is now only +1. Let me ask you something, do you honestly believe that a 19 frame TRACKING MID should be +9 on block? Do you have any idea how ridiculously beyond good that was? Just +3 or +4 would make it one of the best moves in the game, now that everyones knows the full extent of Bayman's wall pressure.

Everyone except Grap3. See, he says things, but he doesn't understand the depth of them. He is like a parrot with a vendetta.

When he first started the topic, I kept it open because actual discussion was going on. When it became obvious he intended to use it to just stir shit up, I killed it. That's my job.

A discussion is only a discussion when a person knows what they are talking about and is willing to take in all points of view. Grap3 isn't. It was purely for his own propaganda. When DR2K told me throw breaks were a bad idea, I was more than willing to debate with him. Food for thought.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to point out that making sizable posts isn't something I really like to do. It is, frankly, an inconvenience. I am a competitor in many things I can't be bothered to explain myself in detail every single time something requires me to take action. I'm a moderator, not a politician. If I was running for some form of office my campaign slogan would most assuredly be something akin to "Burning Bridges For A Better Tomorrow".

I'm a big believer in 2nd chances, but certain individuals are on their 20th. Yet still I feel if I got rid of them now their would be a damn riot and folks would be calling me a tyrant over it, all because they don't know what they are talking about. Consider me an incredibly patient asshole with a lot of power and be grateful for it.

This is incredibly arrogant to say in my eyes.

This also seems like a personal vendetta against the man. Mimics what others say? So there's no way he understands what he speaks?
Maybe they were valid points made by others that he happens to agree with. There's no crime in repeating them.

I favor a game (VF5:FS Vanessa) where an 18-frame mid punch parries low and high attacks (kicks AND punches), granting +2 on normal and +4 on parry/counter. The parry mechanism is active throughout the initial startup frames. Its also -8 on block. Characters having good moves is not such a bad thing, Rikuto. Maybe other characters should have 'as viable' tools. Players in DOA have it easy. The case with every single character; the move can be held with a 0 frame hold if spammed.

Everyone except Grap3. See, he says things, but he doesn't understand the depth of them. He is like a parrot with a vendetta.

I grow tired of how you tend to speak to some people on this forum, as if they're children and can't observe, think, and come to a conclusion for themselves. C'mon Rikuto, show some respect. Its insulting.
I've been following you all this time because I believe you to be intelligent, but you shouldn't let that get in the way of your politeness. You're so soft-spoken and reclusive in person, why can't that apply here?

When he first started the topic, I kept it open because actual discussion was going on. When it became obvious he intended to use it to just stir shit up, I killed it. That's my job.

If Mr. Wah agrees, fine. If I don't like it, I know I can leave. Oddly enough, it was Grap3fruitman that brought me to FSD from my interest in a Youtube video he posted, analyzing the TGS preview before DOA5 was even released. I never saw him as some sort of antagonist (especially then).. Maybe a troll after release though. But I found it kinda funny because I agreed with what some of what he said.

A discussion is only a discussion when a person knows what they are talking about and is willing to take in all points of view. Grap3 isn't. It was purely for his own propaganda.

Its bias to believe what you speak can't be considered "propaganda" as well. I consider this wall of text against Grap3 propaganda. How does that make you feel? You're strongly footed in your opinion and tend to look down on others that don't hold it as well. Because you're right, right? Human bias. Grap3 had a video showing point-blank proof of what he discussed. And that's somehow bullshit being started. I see a tyrant that would rather this be silenced and his point of view promoted. "Hmph."

You can believe whatever it is you want to believe. It's your choice to be wrong.

You wanna doubt the guy who's got 100% more experience than the person you are attempting to defend on virtually every level, then that is your decision. I'm not going to make another lengthy post to defend myself, nor should I have to. I've got ten years of experience to do that for me.

If that makes me arrogant, then fine. I'm arrogant. I'm still more experienced and actually know the person I'm talking about here. Deal with it.

If you had tried more than a dozen times to reason with somebody and still got met up with uneducated rants like Grap3 posts on a regular basis, you would want to run him over with a carriage as well.

Even the devs dislike him because of his inability to control himself.

What you should be noting here is the fact that I have not even banned him. That's an insane level of tolerance.

Because you're the infallible educator aren't you?
I'm not denying your skill, but your omniscience of DOA. To say that a +9 guard break is unfair is up for debate. As is the rest of the game's solidity and balance.

Even the devs dislike him because of his inability to control himself.

The devs must have more knowledge and experience about DOA balance than you for that to mean anything. -- Last time I checked, they weren't that great at playing. Soo...

What you should be noting here is the fact that I have not even banned him. That's an insane level of tolerance.

For you, maybe that is so. Consider that there are other mods and the owner, besides you.

I can argue with you all day, Moon, and provide detailed examples of why you are wrong on virtually every single thing.

But what is that going to solve here? It will waste my time, and you're still going to be angry with me afterwards. So really, whats the point?

Let's be practical and just skip to the part where I win and you're angry about it.

Then let's skip to two months later when you finally realize Grap3 is being an ass, and I was right all along.

Now let's be friends again.

1. You presume too much

2. I still follow you because I'm above getting angry over this.

Sure we can move on with that though. Friend.
