Tournament Results: BEST of the Battle III

This past Saturday NorCal fighting game tournament BEST of the Battle hosted their 3rd installment in the BOTB series. With 7 games across the board for the day, it's no wonder the venue was overflowed for the FGC event. 1st place honors goes to CrazySteady for taking home his first offline tournament victory. Steady also showed why he's one of the most versatile players in DOA5 with his wide character selection. Persistent Stat had a solid showing with his 2nd place standing. NykNyks took 3rd which makes that his third consecutive BOTB event with top 3 placings.

This wasn't even half of the people at the event. The tattoo shop was packed also, sardine style.

When you attend a BOTB event, you just might leave with a tattoo of your favorite fighting game character. In this case, Kasumi, as seen on resident member and Kas combo guru Return of the Shadow.

Let the healing and peeling begin!

Props to everyone that attended the event. Major ups to HajinShinobi, Rekushin, CrazySteady, and Persistent Stat for showing up to the event to represent the SoCal scene. Kudos to all the steam monsters that watched the event live. I would also like to thank everyone that showed up to the event. I started BOTB as a way to lure in the best DOA players I can find just so I can play a few matches with whoever showed up. If you attended or watched the event on stream please feel free to leave any suggestions to further improve the quality of the event and/or stream.

Nicely played, everyone. Glad to see some more tournament action.

Super special shoutouts to CrazySteady for bringing Pai and Lisa to the tournament. Some characters just don't get seen much anymore.

No, I played terribly because I had no time to sleep the night before. I can always make up for that at the next tournament (which is what I intend to do), but no, I did not play well, lol. It was cool that Steady came up though. That is a player I've been hoping would come out to events, next time we'll need to play a set though.

Yes GGs to everyone that was there. And Hajin & Shadow, I was thinking about liking your post but it's like you guys are only saying "I played terrible." If you ask me, it kinda look like you are making excuses for your loss.

BEFORE you guys start jumping down my throat, I'm not trying to start anything with you guys its just that saying "you did terrible" is a self motivator. The only person that should be told that is yourself. Same thing goes for the "not enough sleep" thing as well. That should be something to tell yourself to do better in the future. Telling others "you did horrible" wont motivate you enough to do better in the future. If I'm not mistaken, Hajin I think you said the same exact thing at the tournament in Hollywood. And you won that tournament.

I had fun at the event and that should only matter to someone unless you are really competitive and want to win a tournament but that's a whole different ball game. But GGs to everyone and I'm hoping to see more players in the future!

lol, go read my posts in the socal tournament thread and tell me exactly where I said the same thing, please.

Also, I'm not making any excuses, I am saying exactly why my play performance was poor (you don't see blaming anyone else or anything, do you? This was of reference to myself). I'm not upset, irritated, or feeling any negative emotions about anything. I just need to make up for my lousiness at the next event I attend.

Do not attempt to make inaccurate assumptions about me.

Well for starters, you didn't read my post carefully. Haha If you "read" my post, I'm pretty sure that I stated that it seemed like you was making excuses. How about this, go read my post again. Sheesh...

I'm not upset, irritated, or feeling any negative emotions about anything.

I think you was a little salty though. That's exactly why you tried to give Nykko some pointers when my brother (Persistent Stat) was playing with Ayane.

Do not attempt to make inaccurate assumptions about me.

I can say the same for you. Good game!

I'm not about to have any back n' forth bicker with you, dude. I am disappointed about how I played, but I shrugged it off about an hour after I was knocked out of the tournament. It's not a big deal and I will make sure I do better next time.

No, I wasn't "salty" about anything, I give players pointers about fighting my character often (you see that's the second time already you've made an assumption). If I were to be salty about something, I'd shout curse words and not show any sign of good sportsmanship to my opponents. You see when I lose to someone I don't take anything out on that player. I either lost because I played poorly, lack experience somewhere or they were just that much better than I am.

I don't allow myself to stay angry, upset or salty about something I either had no control over or just couldn't show enough to take the win. I try to think back about my matches and what I can/need to do to beat what I lost to next time around.

It seems that way because that's how you choose to read it. So again, do not make assumptions of me.

@CrayCraySteady I don't know how me showing any displeasure for my performance is making excuses? I simply stated how I felt about my performance and it was off. It's not an excuse. I lost. I'm over it. I'll be at the next event, and the one after that. It's what I do. My priority is getting Cali out there which is what me and others been doing. I am always motivated to do better and playing properly at these events. Don't say "I'm not trying to start anything" when that is all this is going to do. I showed nothing but respect for you and others who came down and the first thing I did when I got home was message some people thanking them for coming because to me the event comes first. People are going to get upset when they lose, especially when they feel they could have done better. It doesn't mean they're going to take it out on the world. It's part of competitive play.
