On the other hand you have a part of the doa crowd themselves that are hating so much on the game ... so i ask them .. why the hell are you playing it if you dont like it ?
Where are these people that hate DOA but still show up to tournament for it that you're referring to?

all those topics may seem like they dont mean much to you guys but that is how the sf community grew in visual content .. they cover EVERYTHING .. and the promote it everywhere ! to the point that not only do they have specialized sf sites .. the also have specialized character sites !!
They also have a game that's being played. I'm not just being "defeatist" either, I'm just being honest.

And for some reason you guys seem to have this negativity towards casuals ... news flash! all the pros used to be casuals at some point ... from casuals comes new pros ...
1) What the heck are you talking about?
2) What does this have to do with anything else said in this thread? Were we negative towards any casual players in this thread?

The only negativity I've seen on this forum has been towards troublemakers and people who say the game is fine and doesn't need any work.

I was suspicious about one part of his post:

I recognize the worth of a casual in the same way I recognize the worth of a peasant tilling the fields. A necessary but relatively unimportant chap who may one day rise up to great things if he's ambitious enough, but no one will really miss if something happens to him because there are always ten more ready to take his place.
Before I jump to conclusions about who he's talking about, what did he mean by this?

this argument is starting to get out of hand and its partly my fault ...

refering to the game as poor and not good enough is not exactly a sign that you guys like it ... you guys complain and complain about a system that will not change .. or for the most part i hope it doesnt change ... improved upon ?? yes indeed i welcome improvement .. and team ninja has shown alot of promise with the alpha build alone by reducing active frames and increasing recovery frames and toning down hold damage ... (please dont bring up izuna .. thats just a one isolated case .. and overall its less damaging than what it used to be )

doa3.1 had a 3 point system .. and it was solid ... infact it can be arguably looked at as the most solid out of all doas...

instead of basicly defending your own game ... you ended up following what the other people say and it hurts the scene more when its internal ...

for one the changes can be approached in a much more positive direction ... yes you guys are craving a tournament scene .. I am too .. but i dont see how making a game not what it is will improve anything .. guessing is a factor that will always be in all fighters ... maybe doa sets a higher bar for it but that doesnt mean its not tournament viable .. if you know the system .. you can get around it... and even use it to your advantage ..it might be an easy system to get into .. but mastering the system is not easy ..

and all that being said .. i dont see why releasing any content can hurt the game ?

sfxt had vids being released from alpha builds all the time ..
hell they even had mechanic explanation vids being released far before its release ..
then they tried to justify the gem system ..
and they addressed infinates and they even said .. there wont be any bla bla .. and they ended up creating an infinate generating piece of crap ..
and look at them now ... they're patching and patching and with every patch new glitches are found ...
and yet its still being played in tournament .. it still sold well ... yes a big part of it may be the name itself (sfxt ) .. but it created its own fan base and is still going strong ... despite it being looked at as utter shit by 90% of the top heads ...

now im sorry but doa is much better than that .. and promoting it with early vids /mechanics/ footage will always be healthy for the game ...
if it changes then you talk about how it changed from alpha .. if its still the same then great you covered it before and now you can expand on it ...

not showing anything now because you're afraid you're gonna get negative feed back is a defeatist mentality .. even if you release it a year after its release .. you will still get negative feed back ... its normal ... there will always be haters and there will always be gripes towards a franchise or a system ... but that doesnt mean hiding in our little caves and not sharing the info ..

alot of people wanna know .. even if its a little thing .. they just wanna be fed any kind of info .. we can help with that .. then theres the other type of people that know nothing and yet bash it .. and yes we can educate those morons too ...

what confuses me more than anything is that im finding this opposition currently from the doa scene alone ...

all the other forums ive posted in (srk, eventhubs, 8way run, neoempire.. hell even gamefaqs ) seem to be welcoming the game with open arms and looking forward to something new and yes they ARE asking about the system and they ARE wondering what has changed .. same thing on my youtube channel .. they just seem to have a general concern that its release same time as ttt2 .. which is understandable .. but they know nothing about the game ... and they seem to be looking forward to it with an open mind ..

we can help them know ..

and we can share our findings no matter how little to the general public .. even if its in the alpha build .. and will be gone .. or updated .. at that time you talk about whats new and HOW it changed .... u basicly pave the way for your new content ...

at least thats the way i see it

i think the live stream is a great idea ... and it should be done more often ..
just like theres live streams for every fricken game out there on the side tab of srk .. i dont see why doa5a cant have the same ...
im hoping at mcm they have a streamer ... and if not maybe i can provide them with one ...

we'll see ..

C0w, it's not that hype isn't good. It's that one can lose interest if it's a constant thing and gives you no actual build up to it.

For example, from the SRK comments on your video: " or kill the hype like capcom does with so many reveals and trailers and screens that take away all the excitement from trying out the game yourself"

I find that this is what basically happened for SFxT where the constant hype just left people not salivating for it. I personally had this issue with Skullgirls. I was initially excited for it, but the weekly news that came out (Character trailers, gameplay breakdowns, weekly loketest events). I just got drained from constantly hearing about it that it ended up having the reverse effect on me.

The tutorial you made is fine and most of it should carry over to the DOA5 final release I believe. I look forward to working with you on providing tutorials for the final release, that's when we're going to really need them. I think this has been a good learning experience for all involved.

I have to agree with Mr Wah about "constant hype." Although I've never really experienced being "drained out", it makes sense how the hype can decrease if given too much or too often. You know what they say, 'too much of a good thing can be bad'. Now that I think about it, the fact that TN has been giving us little exposure is kinda scary but also kinda good in a way. Every time they give us something new the hype comes back again. Think about it:

1st DOA5 alpha trailer featuring Ryu + Hayate = hype (simply because it was our 1st exposure, new graphics, etc.)

Reveal of Ayane + Hitomi = hype (just because)

Kasumi + Akira = SUPER HYPE (showcasing both the DOA and VF mascots in a new beautiful stage)

Mr Wah streaming his demo = MORE SUPER HYPE (because he took the time to break it down and explain the new changes)

Christie + Bayman reveal = NEW hype (new characters, new stage, boob sweat, Awesmic probably got a boner, yeaaaah you get the point)

I mean sure we still have our concerns about the core mechanics and how it will change, and the new reveals are getting repetitive with simple gameplay demos. But we still get a breath of fresh air every time we get something new. I'm not justifying the way TN is handling things right now, just stating a fact. Just wait until the London expo, I guarantee it will happen again with Jan Lee's reveal. And hopefully, if TN brings us something even better, the new exposure at E3 will have us going crazy and the new build will be satisfactory to some degree. They have done okay so far, now let's see if they can really WOW us.

Nice vids Emperor. Handy to look at even if things might change for the final build. At least getting to know how certain things work from someone who has never been in a tourney scene and hasn't played DoA in ages is nice.

Too bad I didn't see it earlier, wouldn't have minded trying out the demo.

As for hype, well, depending how E3 goes and how much info is released after, September might be just far enough away that people get burned out from the hype.
