I am still praying for more VF characters as DLC, honestly.

If they put TAKA ARASHI in, thats gonna messup every damn character in the game. YOU WANT TO AIR JUGGLE FOR MORE DAMAGE ?? LOL NICE TRY !!! Then when you slam him into the exploding dangerzone, he absorbs the explosion lol, He would be like an Auto dangerzone disabled character. LOL

as much as I love him, I hate that you need to fight him like its a totally different game.

Juggling his belly counts as air juggling him.

Speaking of which, the "jiggle physics" on him would put Rufus from SFIV to shame.

Good or bad news according to the points of view:

http://www.videogamer.com/xbox360/d...make_fighting_games_unfair_says_doa5_dev.html
(Thanks to Cadaveri from DOAW)

Reading the article, initally I was thinking inside me "well, if it's unfair why don't put FREE Dlc Characters" but then I saw that very probably the main reason is the question about the balance of the game.

I've nothing to object in this sense, surely the balance has the priority on the roster, and much probably TN also wants to defend the game from comparison with the enormous roster of TTT2... anyway I'm really sad to learn that old and potential new characters are definitely out from the game :(

However we can't be totally sure that the leaked list of the alpha build is surely the definitive one. Until remain a little possibility, I continue to hope...

Team Ninja has 'no plans' to sell additional characters for Dead or Alive 5.

Releasing additional characters as downloadable content for fighting games makes the game "unfair", Dead or Alive 5's developer Team Ninja has told VideoGamer, referring to Capcom's strategy of including additional 'downloadable' characters on-disc as not being "the right way to go".
"We don't feel that it's right for fighting games," Team Ninja boss Yosuke Hayashi told VideoGamer when asked for his opinion on on-disc DLC during E3.
"We feel like this is a kind of sport, and you don't change the rules for sports. Everybody plays by the same rules. You don't have a 14-player soccer game versus an 11-player soccer game. That's just not fair.
"It's a similar thing to if certain people have all these characters and others don't. It makes it an unfair game, and we don't think that's the right way to go for fighting games.
"We have no plans to sell characters as downloadable content."
As well as making the game unfair, Hayashi believes that releasing additional characters makes balancing the game even harder, something that's "already very difficult to get right".
"Balance is extremely important, and it's also very hard to do," he continued.
"Even with over 20 characters that's still a real challenge. If we had 50, how much more time would need to balance the game? It gets that much harder to get it right, and it's already very difficult to get right."
Capcom has repeatedly come under fire from consumers for including characters on disc that are later unlocked via premium DLC. Last month, the firm said that it was "re-evaluating" its stance on on-disc DLC.

I understand what he means and people are looking at SFxTK which I can see why, but lets look at games like SFIV which added "many" characters and fine tuned the hell out of them...like I honestly feel if they "really wanted to make it happen they could", but I'm glad we at least have a promising DOA on our hands.

Thanks Awesmic for the Link.

PS. This has been posted above so you can delete mines if you wish.

Well, the characters that we love(such as Ein) could still be in the works as Free DLC. The overall balance of the game could take place after the game is released.

I actually have to disagree with the previous statement that the character reveals early was a bad thing. In fact it could be anything but. I take the example of Soul Calibur V as my reasoning.

I play a few different fighting games but the hype and expectation for Soul Calibur V to the average fan was blown so far out of proportion that it wasn't funny. Project Soul may have been able to make a decent amount of money with the release but the inclusion of 3 mimics, 2 characters with 2 different play styles, the lack of fan favorites, and the DLC or pre-order only character inclusion they were bruising for hurting. I was on 8wayrun during the time that all of this insane crap was going on...so many people were upset. A quick buck and not enough time to finish the game as well as expectations that were too high (to the average fan) will hurt them in the long run.

Dead or Alive 5 on the other hand had the roster secretly leaked and have chosen to ignore it. They haven't tried to put a clamp down on the information (like Project Soul did when Ezio was shown earlier) but have simply refused to acknowledge it. I think this means that it is the final roster and they aren't clamping on it because they wish to keep it out there for people to know but also want to make it seem that they may have more planned. For those who do not know the roster or managed to see the secret leak the character reveals are still quite big. The fact two of the characters are complete unknowns also helps their case. Too much hype can be a bad thing as was seen through other games.

I also don't think that the roster of 25 unique/individual characters is a bad thing. Sure we know the roster (or think we do)...it is possible that they could add maybe one more character to the list as a surprise but that's assuming they have enough time and resources to do so since the roster was leaked. It was also a demo so it is possible that some characters might be hidden still (unlikely though considering the game releases end of September).

I say we should be happy for what we got and thankful that we won't be receiving any nasty surprises (3 mimics).

gotta say though I'm curious to see the new characters.

They won't do that at all. That leak was revealed when the demo was out so who knows how many characters will be announced. Also note that Ryu and Hayate was revealed seven months prior to the demo being released. So the question arises, will there be even MORE surprises?

I'm pretty sure the leaked list is real. There's no way someone could have made up the Pai/Sarah thing and then get Sarah out of luck. In fact, everyone assumed Akira would be the only invited character since 1) we only had one in DOA4 and 2) No one ever thought Sega could lend more than one. Fortunately, we're now getting Sarah and it's a matter of time before we see Pai.

Im just glad Tecmo didn't stupidly pull a namco and replace/scrap a majority of the cast if the leaked roster is real. I honestly passed on SCV simply for the fact that they scrapped my main yun seong who was the replacement of my previous main who was also scrapped... hwang, thus screwing me over two-fold on that bs.

This is the main and only reason I can't play the game, competitively now. They got rid of Hwang and I hated his replacement. I eventually got attached to Talim and, she's gone now. I will forever be a spectator of the game.

I think the list that was leaked for DOA5 was on point for the most part. TN may change things just to throw a curve ball because of the leak.

Technically, Namco/Project SOUL pulled a Capcom, copying what they did for Street Fighter III. No surprise since Daishi Odashima admitted that 3rd Strike was his favorite fighting game of all time. Even the meter management and Just Guard are straight from 3S.

I gotta say, I really couldn't believe how many styles were changed/removed completely in SCV. I really hope TN never does something like that. Oh here's a good question for everyone, what character in DoA has changed the most from one game to the next?

I dunno, Viola's an instrument I wouldn't mind fu-- I mean, plucking.

And Leixia is pretty cute when the game's on mute... though I'd prefer her with a ball gag in her mouth instead.

Other than that, I feel your pain... Waitaminut... NO MENTION OF LOVELY CASSANDRA? O_O

Bass. He went from being really good. Now he's a joke of a character. Hopefully he changes back to being good again, DOA5.

I think with the new system, its all shaping in his favor. Think about it, lower height restrictions for air-throws, unholdable stuns, alot more mid string throws .. I think BASS is gonna become BOSS !!! :p

Rikuto

P-P-P-P-P-P-POWER!
It remains to be seen how far the unholdable stun system makes it through development... Shimbori-san did say he did not want to nerf the critical burst as he likes the concept, but he felt it was too easy to reach it with certain characters (and he was probably talking about mine, honestly).

Not nerfing the critical burst, but still wanting to make it harder to reach means he is probably thinking of nerfing the sitdown stuns... or reducing how many a character has. I don't know. Hopefully Bass is not a victim of this.

Time will tell... But I do know that Bass did not have the same ground bounce options that he used to. His maximum-height launches required for his epic command air throws are going to be a lot more predictable as a result.
