Which community is more active?

I sold my PS3 toward a purchase of a PS4 and I miss the DOA online community. I want to get back into it but Dead or Alive 5 Plus on the Vita is dead and it does not look like Team Ninja will bring Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate to the Vita hence I want to get a PS3 or Xbox 360 to get Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate the game since it appears that Team Ninja seem to be giving the game plenty of support.

For those of you who have both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game, which one has the more active online community and is there any other reason that I should get one over the other?

PS3 has a larger community thanks mostly to Core Fighters. It's been thrown around that the 360 community is stronger overall but I find most of the better players largely stick to private lobbies anyway so that's just an opinion. I do not have trouble finding matches on Xbox Live.

On any given afternoon if I turn on the PS3 there's about 15 US lobbies. Ranked mode is dead though

Ranked mode is quite active on 360 still. I generally find a match with less than a minute of searching.

So am I correct in assuming that on both the Xbox 360 and PS3 finding a Simple Match shouldn't be a problem?

I gotta disagree with your comment about legit lobbies Brute... as far as public/random ones it's generally like 1 out of 10 that's actually good. The other 9 just contain core fighter casuals

Also you CANNOT do tag combos in any tag lobby without everyone trying to boot you. Ever.

I'm curious if the experience is similar on 360

For "legitimate lobbies" I was including private lobbies. I generally have about 10-25 legit players online on my friends list playing in various private lobbies at any given time. If I sign on, I get about 10 game invites in about 4 or 5 minutes.

Also you CANNOT do tag combos in any tag lobby without everyone trying to boot you. Ever.
I may have placed tag lobbies in a different category than you.

The "simple match" feature in DOA 5 Vanilla is no longer in 5U.

So is there any other quick match option - are Throwdown matches still present?

You can still do throwdowns, yes. Basically every other feature from Vanilla is still there. You can practice in training mode with throwdowns on and be tossed into ranked matches (if anyone is playing ranked, which they usually aren't on PSN), or do the same with Arcade mode, etc.

Otherwise, it's mostly lobbies.

Go with 360. You can play with better players, and you're likely to find better lobbies. PS3 lobbies are ass. Mostly tag (which I guess is ok if you're into that), or singles lobbies with retarded rules(and that's even if you can find a single lobbies), but really it comes down to which console you prefer I guess?

PS3 has more activity, but like Cyber said, it's largely due to Core Fighters. Nobody plays ranked anymore these days, however, so lobbies on PS3 are your best bet. Also, be sure to use the filters if you don't want to be bombarded with Tag lobbies.

I see no difference on either side.

At the end of the day you're gonna play the friends you're cool with, and the people who hate you on one side of the community will hate you for the same reasons in the other.

I'll try offering my opinion on this.

I only play on PS3 and like others have said there are more people on here than 360 due to Core Fighters. Ranked, at least for me, isn't totally dead. People still play ranked but you'll mostly find the same people, although sometimes you'll see different people playing. My advice towards ranked would be to use throwdowns instead of manually searching. The lobbies are mostly tag and from my experiences are usually hosted by F-C ranks which I suggest to be CF players. But most people just create private lobbies to play with their friends to avoid drama and rage. Most likely you'll be doing as Awesmic said and just stick to private lobbies.
