Every character appears to be getting new tools in 5U. I'll be more than happy if they nerf Jann's DG and give him other tools that are just as good but not as brain dead to use.

He's getting a new move called the Gunner Dragon.:jannlee::rolleyes:LOL

It's not a hollow insult. You feel that Jann Lee would be ruined without Dragon Gunner when in reality he has many other options. If you used those options, you would be acknowledging their merit.

For example: If I said: "Rig can only fight with punches," you would say: "No, he has good kicks and decent throws as well. Try using them." Then, my response (in your fashion) would be: "Really...? Why assume something you don't know? You have never played me, nor do you know me. Why such hollow insults?"

It's just absurdity. A Jann Lee main should know better than this.

Rig has them Chun-Li kicks. :rig:

Also no I'm not him. Is that good or bad? :(
Don't worry, ENGDragon's not a bad person.

But hey, at least you had the guts to discuss gameplay head-on despite all the backlash you got. Even I don't have the guts to do that. You inspire me, therefore I'm your friend.

Reading the original Game Watch Impress article, it seems some of the matches were between Team NINJA and Sega AM2?

Wasn't sure what topic to post this question in but, will there be a new "Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate" sub category in the media section? I think It'd be a good idea to separate Ultimate's matches from Vanilla's.

If it's anything like DoA/++ and DoA2/2U it will probably put in the same section.

Also I just watched the last few videos, and I was right about Busa's 3PPP being in it's 3.2 state which is damn awesome cuz it now causes stun and a new way to get a CB and/or follow up with a combo.

I also noticed at the end of the Jann/Jacky, Busa/Momiji pt2 tag match they gave Hayabusa his old DoA3 win quote the "Rin, Pyoh, Toh, Shouh etc." onethat was my favourite hopefully that one and Kasumi's classic spin and slow teleport are single win quotes as well those two were some of my favourites :/

Don't even get me started on win poses in this game. Jann Lee had some of the sickest winposes in DOA3 and even a good few in 4 but his 5 ones suck. Obviously they couldn't reuse them because of his new voice actor.

80% of the cast in the game can't say the same however. But this is probably a discussion for another topic.

I wish Jann Lee had the same voice actor in general. I understand the English voice actor is different... but honestly I hate the screams that this new guy does.

I would like to see some of the old poses though from DOA4. Even with the new voice actor they can make it happen.

Same for all the characters.

On the earlier subject: I honestly think people overrate Jann Lee this late in the game. He is a good character no doubt. His mix-up is more than exceptional and once he gets you into the stun game, it's probably going to hurt. No one ever talks about what he lacks though (A solid early stun game mid punch launch, effcient guard breaks (join the club JL >_>), and tools for coming in, including aggressive lows). The guy definitely ain't perfect.

The DG overcompensates for these weaknesses though and more. Why launch with a mid punch when you can get 50 damage anyway off of catching them holding wrong? Why guess what hold at all when you can get a free 50 damage off of just doing the DG? Why guess on your opponent attacking from disadvantage to beat out your throw when you can get a free 50 damage from just going for the DG? Never you mind the 3 way mix-up from Dragon Stance or the setup off of p6p into another grab/DG or possible follow up considering a predicted hold or lack of SE. It's easy.

If you completely take away that DG and break it down piece by piece you do drop him down a bit. He loses the guaranteed stun, then he's got a guaranteed 50 damage. You lose the OH property, you have a 50 damage throw... why would you need a 50 damage throw that's 17i when you can simply 214T for even more damage.

Like, he's good but don't let that make you think that without the DG being as it is now he's still going to be omega high tier. There's clear pot holes in a lot of his stuff.

It won't be a problem overall. Every character is getting new tools in DOA5U so I'm sure that if DG loses the ability to link into 6F+K and only guarantees 66K then his new tools with make up for it.

Besides DG is still an OH and still guarantees 66K so it's still very useful. It probably hasn't been nerfed we just haven't seen anyone good playing the game yet.

Looking at the videos, I'm still trying to gauge how damaging things seem to be in respect to the life setting.

Because noone is doing optimal combos, I am not sure how definitively I can say the damage looks low or high, but I'm still concerned that there's too much life.

Even in the best match, the Rachel vid, good setups didn't seem as deadly as they should be. An unoptimised BnB doing 40-50% is ok, but not being able to close out in the next setup leaves it up in the air.

Any DOA mathematicians want to weigh in on what the numbers seem to be adding up to? @Mr. Wah ?

Keen on this info out of Summer Jam

Also, a breakdown of each characters new moves and any new sitdowns, bounds, relaunchers, etc.

Still don't understand why Jann Lee has an OH. Should be a tool only grapplers have access to. This isn't DOA4.

Certain limited exceptions are fine. It sets up a strike, doesn't do much damage on its own. There's no reason certain character types shouldn't "uniquely" have a nice thing other types specialise in. And OH's are not universal, so it doesn't make it DOA4.

That's not what I meant by "this isn't DOA4". To me, if characters others than grapplers are going to get OHs, then they might as well give it to everybody, like in DOA4. My character has no garanteed damage setup at all, I wouldn't mind she had an OH so I could at least take advantage of the few + on block moves she has. Question of balance, here... Jann Lee has a lot of tools allowing garanteed damage, he hits HARD, and he gets an OH, while Hitomi for instance has nothing. Something isn't fair here.
