Tengu is ugly but he isn't a mantis/fish either. they could easily make him badass appealing to those who would like something like devil jin who is VERY popular

Well, this is a character that very likely (I hope) will be tied to the Japanese folklore and traditions. I expect that she will be very clichè under this aspect (not that I see it as a bad thing), so her mole is really the last thing XD
By the way I find hard that some new DLC character will be able to overcome Marie Rose in the stereotype design, with the character created just for getting a fictional category (gothic loli) in DoA.
Even loving the design of the character, for what you say I think that TN would have needed of some slighty adjustements to make him more fearful than grotesque; but I agree that they could make much more loved his design with little effort.
well for starters his nose doesn't have to be a foot long. Tengus have been portrayed with shorter looking or even regular noses

Number 13 you keep saying tits sell as if you are talking to a sex shop customer but the reality is different. You mean men are less popular and can't sell?? Think about spider man - cat woman think about Usagi - Goku... who is most popular?? Who sells more? Its all about approach they can make a great man design! They show themselves like they doing girly things because some community supports them about their efforts but the truth is different imo...

Um what? Bringing things like Spider-Man and Goku into this conversation as if their situation was remotely similar to Tengu o-0? Ignoring the tiny bit about Spider-Man and Goku being the leading centric characters for their respective works (unlike Tengu) I must have missed how The Amazing Spider-Man and Dragon Ball was primarily about sexual appeal and possessing numerous female regulars over the males. Maybe try something a bit more accurate to DoA like Queens Blade and use that same analogy to see how that goes.
I never said male characters can't be popular or even can't be more popular then females. That clearly depends on the targeted audience for x work and how the characters are presented. I said sex and violence sells and what do you think Spider-Man and Goku does all day? Not modeling in speedos so find out using the process of elimination.

The only notably popular male character in this game is Hayabusa (MC of the NG series) and I still think he would struggle for a top 5 popularity spot in DoA. Yes we have only Hayabusa thats why people hungry for male characters. There is a huge chance they can create unique male fighter and he could be so popular and rival whatever. But TN goes cliche so next male will probably another soldier... Tengu isn't creature like that stupid true ogre from Tekken he is human like...You can hate magicarp but it evolves. As I said before they can make it if they want.

This game ironically is one of the more gender balanced fighters available. The shortage of male characters isn't the issue, it's the popularity of the male characters in a game that heavily promotes their female fighters as eye candy. Go figure with the vast majority of paid cosmetic DLC support directly targeting at that specific gender group. Now we got paid dlc characters introduced to us, but things are looking grim for any male additions since things are 3-0 female and it's no big mystery why this is the case. Like I said already yes an added male/creature/whatever character CAN happen, but WILL it happen is the big question.

I don't think it can nor will happen. DLC costumes are a steady source of income, and a lot of that comes from Japan where it's actually considered rude to pick male characters in DOA.
So let's say they make a male character and a few white boys and maybe some girls buy him. And let's say TN gives him those shitty xmas/football costumes and a couple others. They might make $10,000 (source: my ass).
But if they make a female, more people will buy her and TN has more costumes to copy/paste on her than I can even remember. Also bikinis require practically zero effort to create, while selling the most. If TN takes this route they might make $200,000 (source: my ass).
It is a shame but that's what DOA has turned into. People don't seem to mind that all the girls now dress the same and wear string bikinis while fighting. Personally I think they've lost any charm they once had. One of the biggest reasons I main Alpha is because she's still unique. I can only hope TN treats Femtengu with some respect but I doubt it.
Edit: Oh I just remembered something kind of funny but mostly creepy. In an old interview Hayashi said that members of TN refer to the female characters as "kanojo" which is a Japanese word usually reserved for girlfriend. (Just read the art director's comment on his favorite Christie costume lol) So that's another reason why males get neglected in DOA.

Really? It added it for me now that ik its not tengu or a ayane clone its a whole new character I hope she has a original fighting style (I would prefer if she was not a ninja but its whatever)
I knew it wasn't a clone from the start, what I'm saying is she looks too much like Kunimitsu now but Imma wait for more info before I judge

hm, what if the girl actually isn't a real Tengu at all and just controlled by Bankotsubo (like in the DOAD chronicle mode, and I'm not a fan of the changed events at all) and during certain moves, power blows and winposes (just an assumption) the sprit of Bankotsubo appears for some quick frames to somehow please the loyal Tengu fans, too.
Which would be awesome, when the girl and Bankotsubo simulataneously speak the phrases/quotes with an girlish-evil voice.
Would be pretty cool.

This reminds me of Itagaki saying that he considered them his daughters. By the way I believe that what you mentioned was an ironic statement while Itagaki's one was made with a provocative purpose.
I'm not a fan of controlled characters, by the way from the picture the girl seem just to have a pair of Tengu wings: if this was true, I think that we could exclude a such hyphoteis.
