i care more about TGS than my birthday at this point anymore. just give me cool trailers and im happy. ill be super fucking happy if they show some kusari-gama gameplay. combine the stances with the throwing abilities they had in NG and i think something incredibly unique will be made.

I think kusari gama is the single most likely new weapon type we have not seen yet. I would almost say it is guaranteed. I am also really hoping for ninjato sword, naginata and perhaps the nodachi large sword.

The wait until TGS next week is going to be rough! I too really hope the Oct 28 date is real but is it feasible still do you think? Less than two months after the beta?

I'm guessing we'll some some tweaks but nothing heavy if we're only a month or two away from release. I think they're leaving the door open though since a date has yet to be announced.

I really just want there to be more of Hanzo's pocket ninja cat. That was a completely unexpected direction for the game to go in. And it's awesome.

I'll be getting this game day 1. I appreciate games like this, the soul games and games like Ninja Gaiden because even though its a bitch to overcome in the end it teaches you hard work and determination pays off

seeing my video appear on reddit post i feel kind of disappointed in myself. i could have made some cool videos seeing how far i could get by on stealth tactics, but i just assumed somebody much more suited to the job would do it better than i ever could. what i didn't realize is that nobody was really using it the same way i was though. Most players were actually doing the smart thing and going for maximum DPS without ever using the supa scroll apparently.

I dunno how much longer demo will be up but anyone wanna coop with me on ps4? Solo takes too long, the enemies are just tedious buy I wanna finish the levels for the bonuses for the full game

last day of the beta and i spent the entire time seeing how i could completely avoid battle however i pretty much succeeded. the only issue i had was the oni guarding the key. i can take him down easily, but after spending the entire time sneaking it just feels like such a failure. i settled on luring him away smoke bombing, throwing paralysis powder, then applying a suppa scroll and getting the key while he's stuck.

the second mission is no problem at all you can skip difficult areas with a cat walking scroll and hinoma is so easy i don't even need to bother getting the third shrine, just jump down from the connecting bridge it does barely any damage.

i don't think ive had this much stealth freedom in a game that wasn't based around it. its pretty incredible and that's the reason i spent so long messing with stealth despite not even being a huge fan of the stealth genre, just i wanted to see how far i could take it.

I've come to despise those tongue cyclops guys. Not because they are hard to kill but because I can't hit them with melee before they go giant and then they take forever to go down.

....up until I remembered I have ranged weapons XD.

You can actually hit them melee in the small form, is just tricky.

I'm wondering if I should get interested in Ni-Oh?
I haven't really tried any Souls games(I have Dark Souls, but I never gotten past even the first level due to never getting around to it) but I plan on jumping onto Bloodborne awhile after I get a PS4.

Anyone wants to give comparisons to which series Ni-Oh's difficulty ultimately gets closer to?

It's kind of its own thing at this point.
At a glance it looks a lot like a Soulsborne game but the only things that are similar to each other are the leveling system and that enemies are capable of really hurting you. Nioh is much faster combat pace and has a much larger moveset with each weapon class (a final count of all the unique weapon classes has yet to be revealed) but you have more options in one stance with one weapon in Nioh (and there are three) than you do with a weapon class (such as a katana weapon) in a Souls game.
Kinda hard to relate it to anything once you get how the game actually plays.

I'm sure everyone would be able to explain it but i'm pretty sure you don't need Souls series just to get into NiOh. They are different in their own way, same as NiOh, NiOh just happens to be rather fun.

The game is difficult but not impossible, in fact it's really enjoyable. You have to adjust to the mechanics and knowing your way around your weapons department in terms of skill learning and usage, attack stance, conserving Ki, how to properly engage the enemy without getting yourself hurt, and making sure you don't run out of stamina completely because you would be rendered defenseless for it.

I'm hesitant to compare Nioh's difficulty to the Souls games. The Souls games' difficulty traditionally revolves around trying to avoid or circumvent as much actual gameplay as possible through preparation and exploration. In contrast, Nioh presents a more traditional challenge that is based on knowing when to dodge, when to attack, etc.

My contribution to this conversation is this:

Get interested. It's awesome. Difficulty is handled in much the same way as Ninja Gaiden (ignoring RE for the moment because of the garbage that was Ultimate Ninja), where 'difficult' is a word you use until you figure out a better approach. I found most of the alpha and beta to be very easy once I slowed myself down a bit, but I died multiple times on a side mission. I went back to it later with a slightly different approach and crushed it.

I think enemy damage in Nioh is higher and more consistent, but at the same time oneshots are less common. Whereas in Souls you have things that barely tickle you and things that blow you up in one hit.

The default heal in Nioh is definitely weaker.

The things they have the most in common are the bloodstain system where you need to successfully return to the spot you died at to pick up dropped things, and I guess fighting in narrow areas because while it's in a lot of games, it's especially obnoxious in these two.

The bloodstain in this game is different, though. The points you use for experience and the points you use to buy items are independent, and only one of these drop on death. You also might be tempted to actually forfeit the dropped experience to get some stat bonuses back.

A lot of Souls' difficulty just depends on knowing the stage and enemy gimmicks. Once those are out of the way the game becomes a piece of cake. Nioh is a lot more "honest" and straightforward, with its difficulty being in the action and fighting. The combat is also very different. I think the only Souls habit that carried over for me was walking around while holding the block button.

Anyway, back to Nioh: did anyone focus on polearm weapons and if so, how where they? I enjoyed using them for shits and giggles and the Forward+Dash+Attack combo was a lot of fun, but I never found a use for them outside of recreation. The risk/reward never seemed comparable to other weapons I had, but that could be due to the stats I upgraded or weapon drops available in the demo.

I use polearms as my primary weapons here. What made me gravitate towards them was finding out that they made dealing with mobs easier due to the range/distance.

I find that they do allow you to cheese opponents who try to dodge you mid combo as they will most likely get hit anyways. Lol

As far as good polearms, I don't think I found any yellow or blue ones until playing through the Twilight missions...I've yet to find a purple one.

All in all, I enjoy the polearms the most and will be focusing on them for the game with single Katana as my alt for narrow spaces.

That said, I LOVE this game so much!!!!!!!!!!!
I never got into the SoulsBorne games, but this has become my favorite game period. It draws so much from so many places and they all coalesce into something so perfect! You can see the Ninja Gaiden, the Onimusha, the Tenchu, the SoulsBorne, the precise reaction based gameplay from fighting games...It's all so amazing! I cannot wait for the release to be sucked back into the world of this game!!!!

And kudos to everyone who supports the game and keeps playing it despite the difficulty, this game is truly a gem, something special in this day and age! :)
