So far the tournament-viable characters are:

- 3 VF dudes
- Lee
- Rig
- Mila
- Christie
- Bass
- Bayman
- Tina
- Kokoro
- Eliot
- Fu
- Busa
- Ayane
- Fang

I'm not sure about Hitomi because I've seen many posts saying she relies too much on DOA4's stun game. Same with Hayate, so I dunno.

If Hitomi's damage output hasn't been touched along with her guard stuns. Shell be fine, it'll be a tough battle but she can do it with that going for her. Kasumi is also fine.

Hayate, though........... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH *cough cough* HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.

Erik. Your Bayman strategy against Akira is potentially true for Fang as well. Isn't it¿

I'd say it holds true to everyone really. Despite Akira being a power house in VF5FS, he was quite predictable with how he is played. Holds can be detrimental to his design in DoA5 but I doubt it will slow him down much if he carries over most of his from data from FS.

Well it comes down to the numbers really...

Akira guessing right results in more damage than most people can hold for. That rule just doesn't apply to Bayman when he starts busting out 6 point holds. I imagine Busa would also have a bit of a field day if he's paying close attention. Leifang I can't really comment on.

The reward for Akira jabbing is some very minor frame advantage. The risk is horrible horrible death.

When you can start to condition Akira to fear that shit, he becomes much more manageable.

Finally a thread where people can discuss their opinions about the game (even if they differ quite a bit) without someone going on a complete insult rampage. I like that!

The rampage is going on mentally.

This is my emotional state every time I see a new build.

It's just not possible, unfortunately. You can always try and you may even come close to total balance, but there will always be something that makes certain characters better than others.
Yeah, I get your point. I'm coming from MK9 so you probably understand what sort of game breaking crap I'm used to. As long as it doesn't feel like Sheeva against Kung Lao I'm happy with whatever. Though might go tier whore this time around.

Wow.

Look guys. The game will be coming out and there will be players who get the chance to talk to Shimbori at both the Launch Party and Season's Beatings events to give their praise and thoughts of the game.

The game, as far as I've been told and have played, is probably in the area of "better than" DOA2U and "Not as good as" DOA3.1.

And really, it just comes down to the point of what type of DOA game you're looking for in that regard.

I wish it were like 3.1, or even better than it, but honestly I just get the feeling that it's not the type of game that Team NINJA wants DOA to be.

Even the common folk could tell.

You're in trouble now, boss.

.... but seriously, yea he's just trying to stay positive. Nothing wrong with that. Neither of us submit to the idea of taking this lying down.

I'm just a little more loose-lipped and generally pissed off as an individual, so I'm usually the first to speak up over something that I deem is "bullshit".

That shouldn't be the bar everyone tries to reach for.

Didn't DrDogg say in another thread that only 3-4 characters are "non viable" (or something similar)? That'd mean that 3 VF chars + 16-17 DOA chars are OK

I know I'm in trouble. I don't have time to argue about the game before it releases. I'm still trying to catch-up with the influx of posts over the past week haha.

The problem is they took away some of those mechanics. I'd be fine if they played like this and the game played more like the E3 build. It's clear that their lower-mid level play has affected high level play. The extra hits required to CB (allowing more chances to hold, which we see they both love to do while stunned), removing many sit down stuns until much later or just on crouching opponents, removing many 3in1s and 2in1s (making the hold more prevalent again), removing guaranteed damage/set ups (Bass' pick up just to name one), and the lack of frame advantage/safe moves (which should be in the game, especially since there is a viable sidestep) were all probably changes that resulted from their lack of understanding and/or lower level mindset approach to the game.
Thats why I stop being hype, it seems like TN doesn't fully understand that making DOA5 competitive would be a spectacular fighting game but I guess TN want DOA5 to be DOA4.5 unfortunately. :(

To be honest, I'm actually curious to know if Alpha 152 is tournament viable and where she is on the tier list. When you think about it, wouldn't it be funny if the guest characters were better than your own game boss(or sub boss)? I'm not saying that game boss characters should be better than everyone, but I just find kinda awkward how in games, that boss characters are usually "meh" when played.

Probably because the actual playable versions are toned down to fit with the rest of the cast. I do hope Alpha-152 is slightly buffed from her Dimensions incarnation though.

I have to say that Doa3.1 set the Bar really high for the series. Just like TK3 and VF4 set the bar high for their respective series. Are the new games in those series bad? No, but they did not meet fan expectations. Doa5 will more than likely follow this fate. It will be a good game that simply did not meet everyone's expectations.
