^ yeah ive never heard anyone say anything like that...

Yet that's what it sounds like when gamers here try to criticize Japanese games with no merit. They're Made In Japan. Really how fuckin hard is that to understand? They on the other hand perfectly understand the reasoning and design behind games like God of War, Mortal Kombat, etc. I'm very much looking forward to Injustice as I'm a huge DC fan and perfectly understand that it can only come from America...or do I....(thinks ecstatically of a Capcom Marvel vs. DC fighting game).

this separation of east and west is really starting to get on my nerves.Japan isnt some mystical country that only they understand the games they and the west produce are perfectly capable of both appealing and being understood by everyone.

Ehm...no. Eastern games generally have much better aesthetics storytelling, and generally much better fighters (we pretty much ONLY have Mortal Kombat, which is probably the clunkiest fighter anyone has ever seen lol)

We have better....um...Dialogue. That's all I can really say lol.

East generally make better games.

Part of the reason that Japanese games fell out of popularity in the West (save Nintendo developed ones) this generation is due to the differing philosophies in game design. The action-oriented ones such as the Platinum Games, er, games, and some of Capcom's IPs (which even had some franchises outsourced to the West) didn't resonate so well with the majority of us Westerners, let alone the JRPGs.

I find fighting games generally fall out of this trend because all the major ones outside of Mortal Kombat are developed in Japan. And while I don't think there's any real barrier for us become top players, I'd certainly presume that the Japanese will naturally understand their own games, just as we naturally understand ours.

That being said, since DoA has been relatively inaccessible for over a decade due to the Xbox being unpopular over there, I do think a lot of the most informed people reside in the West just now. I hope for the sake of the whole community everyone works together to unlocking the game system and influencing it for the better. Now for TN to earnestly listen.

Wasn't skullgirls generally made by eastern developers, except the artist? Or in downright mimicry of eastern games?

Also, I thought that game died off?

The latter. It was made by MikeZ, a West Coast Marvel 2 (and Arc System Works) player back in the day who made combo videos and tutorials for it.

Keep in mind that casuals alone are the majority, then add in the japanese players as well, and thats a huge majority.

So that pretty much answers why they are being catered to.
Yeah. That's what I've been saying this whole time. If the game gets released in the Arcade in the future, it'll attract a lot more Japan and South Korean competitive players, especially some of that VF base if they do it right. If done right, the game potentially can become an 80/20 or even a 70/30 (Tekken) game by the time 6 comes out. Really I'm waiting to see if DOA5 makes it to Tougeki this year as I asked Team NINJA. Have SBO qualifiers for DOA5 here in the U.S, etc and settle it.

Quantum Theory. Ninja Gaiden 3. How did that go? Yeah. Anyways because the game is Made In Japan plus America hasn't proven itself to be the de facto standard (and I tried to say that with a straight face) in 2D or 3D fighting games.
-Western players have proven to be far better players in doa than the japanese. Instead of bringing up other games, you need to do your research on the doa tournament scene, and base the discussion around those facts.

What exactly do you want in this game? To get away with as much foolishness as possible? Here's an idea. Since you're an administrator how bout you and the others come up with a way to go to E3 or TGS so to schedule an interview with Team NINJA and just ask them. You don't like something? Change it.
-This is why it is very important you do your research before you start pretending you have an idea of the situation. We want less foolishness to be had along with a significant focus on solid play. Two, we had discussed this multiple times with tn at e3, at tgs, at every freaking gaming event. Their words were(paraphrasing), "you are right but we cannot leave out the japanese player base". "for such changes to come about, you(us western players), have to convince them that such changes are necessary". So its no longer a matter of what is the correct approach for the game, but more about catering to the lesser Skilled portion of the competitive scene. No game will prosper under those circumstances and Soul Calibur is proof of it. Once again, you need to do your research otherwise you will continue to see the problem from the outside looking in.

I think asking him to do research is a bit much at this point. He can't even stick to a point. I have no idea what the hell he's arguing about.

In a barely competitive 95/5 (97/3?) game with virtually no JPN Arcade presence for the past decade where most JPN competitive players are.

Well guess what? They're still waiting. By the time that happens Dead or Alive 6 will already be in store shelves.
I sent Team NINJA a Twitter about this year's SBO. Convince and prove it there.

I'll just leave you and everyone here with this -

Dead or Alive JPN Official Tournament Final
Vs.
SoCal Regionals 2013 Grand Finals

I've kinda been away from the community and the game for a while but I intend to change that back. I'm opening this thread because I'm interested in reading people's opinions on several characters I like to use post-patch. Since the game came out, I never truly found a main. I messed around mostly with the blondes but never truly mained anyone so I now want to find this special character.

After playing for a while, Helena feels truly weak and now that her FT shit is mostly gone I don't find anything about her that interesting. Tina I still like a lot but her lack of speed and the need to rely on the opponent's mistakes to land actual damage pisses me off. So I want to move around Pai, Lee, Fang, Busa and specially Kasumi. I saw Matt sharing a video with some nice guaranteed combos and she looks beastly in Home.

So, what's everyone's take on Kasumi, Busa, Pai, Fang, Lee, Tina and Helena post-patch¿ Do you see them viable¿

Back onto the subject of the patch. Who else dislikes the connectivity filter? I don't like lag as much as the next person, but when there are 7 lobbies all set to 5 bar connections and you have a 4 bar connection with all the lobbies, it gets pretty annoying. 3+ bars are fine and there really is no reason to set it any higher than that. Then again DoA's netcode is random as hell (just like the game! *zing!*) and I have had 5 bar connections lag like 1 bar and 1 bar connections run like 5 bars.

That sounds... terrible. Fuck, I hope they get rid of that.
