I honestly don't think its a big deal at all.

Society has this mental "glass jaw" when it comes to political correctness and whats acceptable or not. I think people need to toughen up and learn how to look passed things. Sex sells. Its a tired cliche, but its true. DOA is a GREAT fighting game and if the outfit and google searches sell a few more copies, more power to them. If anyone is offend by its playful nature, then they are someone who wouldn't get ANY of my time.

Its a game with attractive characters male or female, and if you can't appreciate it, well... you need to unwind in my eyes! There are way more concerning things then some polygon boobs in polygon bikinis

:)

You're clearly missing our point, then.

Because it's lazy and they charge 2 dollars for it. Palette swaps, copy paste jobs, the christmas "costumes" were just fucking ribbons, swimsuits, Nurse outfits, swimsuits , schoolgirl outfits, swimsuits, Sports wear, swimsuits , did I mention swimsuits? Fucking swimsuits! You want one? THAT'LL BE TWO SHEKELS, GOY! See where I'm going with this?
Not really!
What I don't get is how NO ONE claims to like the swimsuits yet they seem to be the biggest seller. TN (or nay business for that matter) wouldn't put 1 minute behind something what wasnt going to make money. The swimsuit sell!

You're clearly missing our point, then.
I don't think so.
Is the game too sexualised? IMO, no its not. And I made the point above which you disagreed with, as is your right. I don't agree with the majority so I can't see how that is missing the point. Im making my own point.

I prefer the bikini packs we had to the maid/cop/santa packs in the sense that, at least with swimsuits, most of the girls get something that is unique, that have good textures and that fits their personalities.

THAT pack anyways. Even if its just a handmedown from Hitomi, I still feel like that's the only swimsuit Mila has, that actually suits her character. Nice and sporty :3

Missing the point.

We understand that "sex sells". But its a combination of

"The sex makes no sense"
and
"So much sex its hard to tell its even a fighting game".

Its not that we have a mental block against sexiness, its that its just plain obstructive. Not just for us, but for the game's image as a whole.

oh, and obviously, the third factor, is the fact that as of now, the "random fetish" outfits outnumber real costumes 3-1, which is frustrating for those of us who are still stuck using vanilla defaults because of it.

HOWEVER, I will fully admit that I am guilty of buying almost EVERYTHING for Mila. Not because I actually like the outfits (I don't even use most of them, and outright dislike at least half) but to support my main, because I'm forced to accept that that's the best I'll get.

I am in the same situation with Helena. I bought her 13 DLCs in Ultimate, and... these are the only DLCs I have bought. I know with her, it will be a safe investment, despite some amazing DLCs I'd love to buy from the Legacy, Casual or Halloween Packs for instance. The only one I shouldn't have bought was her bath towel, which is useless and glitchy. The rest (even the fetish swaps) look good on her.

It's the only way I have found to both control my wallet and support my character/TN.

You're the hero for the day, we live in a world now where everyone is over sensitive and easily offended by any and everything so now i pay them no attention because everyone's going to cry about it all, cant believe people are still whining about this. I addressed this in the first page of the thread and there isnt really much more to say, I stopped caring because people are going to continue to whine cry and complain about a pair of tits, But violence is completely ok. It's annoying but good post! Mali approves of this message!!

yeah no that's not what people are complaining about lol.

Like, at all.

People aren't offended by the tits, people are insulted by/unhappy with the context.

Fair enough, I don't feel that way at all. That just me.
To recap: DOA is a great fighting game with a higher than average emphasis on titillation; that we can all agree on. The majority of the FSD fans are unhappy with the ratio of lazier festishy/overly sexed up them-costumes, that take front and centre to the casual outfits that best fit the characters. Im sure that you all agree thats the point we are currently discussing.

However, I (having not really given my 2 cents on this topic so far) am throwing in my DIRECT opinion on the topic:
"DOA and sexualization too much?" Is DOA over sexualised? I stated and explained: IMHO, no! I don't believe it is. Would a Mortal Kombat fan forum have the discussion about its violence taking away from the game? Im sure they may. Its a topic the community WILL discuss, and for good reason.

DOA, for me, is tongue in cheek, at best. I don't believe its "too much", but I will agree with the towel, maid and sexy cop outfits. They don't do anything for me. However, as even the Mila bias @Argentus stated, her sporty bikini suits her. I think most of them do, in the more thought out, yet still revealing packs.

Do people see DOA as a soft core porn game? Yes, the ignorants do! Is it? No! Its a fighting game with attractive characters, and the DLC pushes that point home. If I am still missing some point, please enlighten me (that wasn't sarcasm, I am being serious) as I would love to give my opinion on the topic.

I don't agree with everyones point here, but what fun would there be in posting on a public forum if everyone flat out agreed. Im not getting angry, Im enjoying the heated discussion. This is my view, and I would be more than happy to hear yours.

I don't think it's the sexualization and "pair of tits" itself that has people upset, it's more of how the women are portrayed and advertised in Dead or Alive, and the media itself. I like attractive and [I guess] sexy women as much as the next male, but sometimes it's too much and enough is enough.

You can't really tell Dead or Alive has an interesting cast of females just from looking at a picture of them and going "wow, they look kind of interesting", like you can with other female characters [i.e Lightning Farron, Jack (Mass Effect), Cassandra Pentaghast, and Nina Williams], since Team Ninja puts the fan service before anything else when it comes to advertising this game, it's kinda hard to take it seriously.

Then, when you have characters like Helena suddenly wearing shit like this, and it's like "so.... what happened to her character?" I believe if the fetish packs and bikinis were done in moderation and weren't popped out every 5 seconds, and the sexualized outfits were toned down, more people would be somewhat okay with it because the females aren't being completely stripped away of their individuality and could actually be taken seriously as characters themselves, but whatever. That's my two cents on it.

You want your characters portrayed in a specific way that suits the theme and the background they come from to stay true to the lore and the personality. I understand completely and i completely agree with you. I apologize for my previous post and i hope that future DLC does a better job of reaching a better plateau of Character specific Outfits. Take care Aero.

I get Argentus' point! Let me use an analogy:

A female feeding her baby (pretty much every female mammal not just humans). We are so traumatized by Breasts, teats, areolas (sp), obviously of the portrayal in media and real life.

But go back to that woman feeding her baby. How else is the baby going to consume if the she is wearing a bra? Makes no sense! But most never think of their intended use, unless it's seen and have a problem with it. ("All these people are staring!" And? "My baby's hungry! I'm going to feed it! Pervs present and all!")

See? Most would back off.

Or the attraction! How many players used Mila before they whored her up? (Sorry, Argentus). I guess I'd be head over heels for Alpha (her sexy naked colorful ass! She has clothes, but she's still naked, really). Ironically, I guess they saw how popular the nude Kasumi mod was because that was the excuse. However, do you see what she doesn't have? If she had those things - DOA4 may not have shelved let alone 5.

Sure, we understand it's a cultural thing, doesn't make the "obsession" lawful. Some of the sick shit that goes on in America and you wonder why we're the most hated nation.

I think the issue is presume constant euphoria. No one likes everything, but keep shoving something they do like in their face, they won't like it! I can't tell you how many times I've heard: "Pick somebody else! I'm sick of Alpha!" But if I say something like: "She gets me wet!" You bet the barrage of comments coming. (Unless I'm among friends who get my tone - especially if they joke like that, too!)

Yes, something my sell, but if done excessively, eventually it'll become a shell of its former self and a joke and none here want DOA to continue to be the ass of alot of jokes, do we? That bland outfit Mila, but all of her outfits before the slutty ones fit her personality!

Helena: She is absolutely gorgeous, elegant, full of grace and dignity. She has costumes that reflect that.

The ninjas: It's obvious with them.

The guys look so handsome in their tuxedos!

Alpha: Being naked - Granted, the paragraph before, but I see something beyond her being nude, just to be nude. Despite the universe's "justification" of the actual reason (and there's no hiding it):

Notice how she's too easy too beat, made to be vulnerable which is the flipside to all that raw, brutal power that people complain about, still. They stay people with the toughest exteriors (look at me. I can kill you with one throw!) have the softest interiors. (but I can get fucked up easily) aka "I act tough, but I'm gentle!" Despite her having (uninspiring) costumes, this won't change. As I said, she's still naked (vulnerable) even with clothes. So, maybe they didn't introduce Alpha just to have a "naked" Kasumi. Sadly, I can't say this with the other girls! And what ironically, I wrote more regarding a naked character than any of the clothed or barely there girls! Somehhow I can't feel proud here.

My personal beef with Japanese obscenity laws

7aMXQJo.png
more to the point, why do they think just the nipple is the only difference between sexy and obscene?

Its like when guys are shirtless, usually japan removes the nipples entirely. Thats awkward. or in DOA, where the girls don't have nipples even though their breasts are bare where we'd see nipples if they had any.
