DOA5 single player/casual thread

Awesmic, I actually like that idea, it's smart and is relevant, definitely seeing as how Team Ninja wants to appeal to casual player first and foremost.

The one thing I want is an online training mode with something that counts frame data. That would be REALLY helpful.

I understand the desire for an online training mode, but the usefulness of frame data in such a mode would be limited due to the lag.

This. But have to do a lot to unlock them all. I really liked DOAU costumes and the survival mode you had to go through to get them all. So something like that I think would motivate casual players to play modes besides just story and vs. modes.

What about the people who want to spend more time playing others than playing the single player modes? I've never liked being forced to play single player modes just to unlock things in fighting games (especially when it's characters).

I don't mind if ONE way to unlock things is via the single player modes, but there should be alternate ways to unlock those same items for people who want to jump right into the VS, Training or Online modes.

I said the old models ala vf4 which let people who earned enough points use them. Now that I think about it another option could be the doa4 models for people who want the anime look back. Could be a sweet bonus for people who have tn game saves or a special unlock.

Sony probably wouldn't go for that since that would give the 360 version an advantage.

Well, DrDogg, it's simple. I wasn't sure how people would take an idea of implementing a volleyball mini-game (and strictly volleyball) with an actual purpose in the game, such as an alternative method of unlocking even more specific extra content.

The entire purpose of this thread is to voice your opinion on the single player and casual aspects of DOA5. Why would anyone have an issue with a volleyball mini-game in such a thread? o_0

Second.

Also, would be nice if they had all characters unlocked by default, or for Online/Versus play unlocked by default, or provide a code that disables saving but unlocks all characters (for tournament set up).

how about some form of quest mode like VF had. I also like the special sparring mode in VF5:FS cuz everyone is named after someone in the community. Sega went out of the way to do so

Well, DrDogg, it's simple. I wasn't sure how people would take an idea of implementing a volleyball mini-game (and strictly volleyball) with an actual purpose in the game, such as an alternative method of unlocking even more specific extra content.

Before anyone goes off on me though, hear me out. Going by history, we know the DOAX games didn't sell well as a standalone game. Hell, the latter two related games did much worse than the original. Some people had this idea that the DOAX games would serve as some kind of booster disc for the fighting game installments during the Xbox era, but that never came to fruition.

So I thought, instead of giving in to the particular demands for a DOAX3 and seeing another flop waiting to happen, why not just mesh in the core volleyball portion of that game with DOA5 and give it a purpose for the casual gamer if we're getting sexy costumes as DLC in the process? That way, the DOAX fans won't be left entirely in the cold, and in turn, have an incentive to get to know and play what should matter - the fighting game - if they hadn't already. I mean, it's a start. Not to mention, it could sell better.

Whether people wanna accept that or not, sex appeal has always been one of DOA's strengths, and there are still particular fans of DOAX out there. Knowing casuals, they like unlocking stuff. After all, Tekken 3 got away with a sports mini-game on home consoles just fine, and look how well that did! MK9 had its share of trivial mini-games as well (Test Your Might, Test Your Sight, etc.) to change things up for the casual gamer, and it was a huge success. If anything, the idea of a volleyball mini-game would appease the casual crowd (and those looking for the DOAX itch) even easier. I would only consider it though, if it doesn't interfere with better priority content on the disc. Otherwise, that'll have to be DLC... even sweeter a deal if it's free DLC.

So now you know why I was hesitant to share my idea. Laughable and stupid to you guys, I know, but the fact of the matter is this is a casual thread, it was posted here, and I didn't know how awkward my idea would sound. I'm just being open-minded to those who know about DOAX, but not the fighting games too well. Of course, the fighting game itself will remain its own playground for competitive gamers.

I think this would be cool. They should use the volleyball system from DOAX and not DOAX2. I haven't played DOAX2 in awhile but I remember that the volleyball wasn't as good. Would be nice if they added some more improvements. They could sell it as DLC.

Awesmic, that's actually a good idea. Unpack your balls and just speak your mind. People aren't as opposed to your ideas as you seem to think they are. We only hate your unnecessary emo posts. Stop second-guessing yourself, please and thanks.

@Awesmic...I've ALWAYS thought that the DOAX games should have been a mini game in the fighting game exactly the way you described it. When I first bought DOAX and X2, I thought that Zack's Shop should be a place to buy things for your fighters in the fighting game in terms of accessories and clothes! TEAM NINJA DO YOU LIKE SUCCESS ON THE CASUAL FRONT? DO YOU LIKE MAKING MORE MONEY OFF AN ALREADY GREAT GAME? ADD THIS.

Because of DOA4 being on 360?

Maybe it's more complex than I think, but I figured they would have used the original models at some point on the new engine for testing or something idk.

And since the game is being developed for both systems, that something like that wouldn't be an issue. Just figured if they really wanted to Team Ninja could make it so.

Volleyball love.

Honestly, Im game. Tekken did it once and it did wonders. It was acctually fun.

This would be a great side thing, hell it would be awesome to even have an online mode for it to chill out with on the side, a 1 on 1 or a 2 on 2. Even its own ranking would be hilarious. It doesn't need rocket science. They got everything setup already. We dont even need multi stages, just a beach :D

They can use the old physics old controls and everything and just strap on the new models. Hell, that way we can even have the guys play. (pictures Bass in a thong.. LOL)

One thing I would like is the casino. >__>
I've spent hours and hours gambling there and lost track of time. I think I have a gambling problem .. >__>.

To be honest, I've always wanted everyone to have at least one cool tag throw with everyone. I could easily come up with one or more for everyone.(That would be a shit load of tag throws LOL) still cool though :D

Awesmic actually I think that your idea of a mini vollyeball game inside is really good (also if about the casual apsects of the game, I would give before the priority to others like the story or costumes). And I say that I would really like to see finally also the guys take part to the volleyball game.

Because of DOA4 being on 360?

I think that Mr.Wah referred only to your line about the possibility to unlock the models just through the previous saves of the Doa games (and according to this logic, the old models would be playable just for 360)

I love the new models of Doa5 but damn, I think that the possibility to play the game also with the old models (better also with the various facial movements integrated in Doa Dimensions) would be a great idea.

I got a better idea.

If Sega's helpin' Team Ninja out at making DOA5 a solid fighter with implementing VF characters almost seamlessly into the game, they may as well make the volleyball mini-game play similarly to Sega's Beach Spikers, but without the robotic dialogue and announcers of course. (Yes, AM2 ALSO did a beach volleyball game back in the day.)

With this gameplay style, I could see Power Blow spikes being implemented a bit easier so it could complement DOA5's new features.
