Characters Tom Lee Sure Loves Crossovers

FGC-20160711-CrossOver.jpg

Dead or Alive Festival was a killer event that not only delivered one of the finest fighting tournaments the FGC has ever seen, but also revealed the addition of Mai (from Fatal Fury and KoF) to the Dead or Alive roster. I believe it was very exciting to any of the community skeptics who thought the reveal may only be a few costumes and a new stage.

In this excellent article written by Christian Bahn we get to hear more from the often-times quiet, Creative Director of Team NINJA, Tom Lee -- who has quite a bit to say not just about crossovers, but the community as well. The Virtua Fighter crossover was the blueprint of success, not only because the characters transitioned well into the DOA universe, but because it made sense. Now that Team NINJA has proven they can successfully do crossovers well, it is without any doubt in my mind Mai will help breath fresh life into a game for the older players looking for something new, and a new audience of KoF players... especially to those that enjoyed Maximum Impact.

Tom Lee knows the DOA community like the back of his head, and he knows the recommendations that people make on Twitter, and he knows that it is impossible to please every last fan... not everyone loved the Virtua Fighter crossover, but the tournament showing of the characters and popularity still has proven enough to Team NINJA to keep the trend going. Though I also believe "trolls" have there place in the community. A lot of them are typically shammed, even if their passion is very clear and often times misinterpreted.

I believe that both the community and Team NINJA is doing great working as a team with plenty of content from Team NINJA and plenty of studious players dissecting and processing it all. Let's hope Mai is a stunning success and brings in even more members of the FGC together.

I do look at more than the tits thank you very much. When I'm in the heat of battle I'm not exactly hung up on something as trivial as the floor textures. I'm talking more about the spectacle on the screen coupled with the amazing character models.

It's definitely not perfect, but DOA5LR still is one of the better looking fighting games on the market all things considered. Only nitpickers think it needs an upgrade. Something like VF5FS, for example, needs an upgrade, for comparison's sake.
But still, even if you are spectating a match, watching replays, or taking screenshots it's a glaring problem that could potentially ruin a problem. We've already seen they are too lazy to fix those horrid ankle weights so I shouldn't be expecting much and I hope you didn't take the first part seriously :p doa is known for teh boobies

I firmly believe they made Naotora bad on purpose so everyone would hate her and Koei would stop bothering them with their shitty requests.

Pure speculation, of course.
I hope that's not the case, but then again not everyone hates her either. Logically they had to make her the way she is, otherwise she'd be "OP" or "broken", kind of like in Phase 4's case with the whole no TP on block and unsafety.

I'm sorry if that's how you feel, but I personally feel differently. Honestly that's a sad thing about people with that mentality, negativity and just not thinking about what's in store for us with these new additions will just automatically force you to assume the worst every time. I'd rather they continue supporting and improving the game with new content than making a half hearted sequel that takes a portable console copy that has more content and two additional editions to make it feel fully complete...doesn't that sound familiar??

They AREN'T improving the game they're just giving us more stuff most of which isn't even good.

This isn't me being negative it's me being a realist. There is nothing coming out for me anymore so yes I'm pretty unsatisfied with the current state of the game at the moment.

What exactly do you want? Even if they make DOA6 it'll basically be the same as DOA5: same game play, mechanics, stage types, etc. The only difference will be "better" graphics, new hit effects, and probably 1-3 new characters, and possibly a new mechanic...well IF they can even think of one. I'm pretty content with what DOA5 is doing now, which is continuing to support the game with new content. Sure they haven't added a male character that I'd actually like to use and they haven't capitalized on any new modes, hairstyles or accessories, but it's something.

Have you played the men or just seen clips of people using them/combo videos? I can assure you that I didn't like how Hayate played untill I legit picked him up and fell in love *Then I mastered the raijin and use it to annoy people all day*

That's the thing...none of the guys interest me, I prefer faster more youthful males in FGs I play, but DOA guys aren't as fast as I'd like...and I honestly dislike Hayate. Eliot is an example of the type of male I would play, but his style is too technical for me unfortunately, I'm still holding out for one male DLC character I can get into tho. Until then it'll be Attack on Titan Ein for me. XD

yeah,mai huh? bravo,champagne,cheers~:)

now tell me when the f**k DOA6 announced OK?at least a PV or something?

please KT,tekken 7,kof14,sf5...so many new fighting games' out and you guys still sit there selling DLCs?

:)well that's really short-sighted

with that logic we should have just stopped at DOA1. there are many things that can be done with a new games, some obvious like online improvements or expansive next gen stages, some more subtle.

Tekken 7 is necessary because TTT2 is essentially in the shitter now and wasn't really a very favourable Tekken game either being an unbalanced tag game. KOF14 is pretty necessary because KOF13 released in 2011 and is quite frankly dated now by today's standards. The time is right for SFV this year because SFIV goes back as far as 2008, and lasted much longer than it should have considering some of the imbalances in its gameplay. SFV straightened out, more or less, all of the less favourable elements of SFIV. DOA6 is not as necessary now as you may think in comparison. SC6 & VF6 on the otherhand...

Point taken but remember DOA1 was basically 2D and had no stage variety, and the hold system was somewhat different...DOA2 overhauled that and so on with each game adjusting certain characters, like Kasumi wasn't very offensive initially, she was built up to that. DOA6 right now would honestly just be DOA5LR with more gloss.

DOA5 has been out 4 years and I think it's time,at least KT should tell us they're working on next DOA

I just need a attitude,NOT ENDLESS DLC SH*T

I love the serie,but now I'm so disappointed.

PS:TT2 is an unbalanced tag combo game can't agree more

And the Gap between DOA4 and DOA5 is as long as SFIV's gap.
Let's not pretend that there can't be a similar gap.

You will lose more content than you will gain, to be honest. While I am hopeful for better netcode, it is somewhat unlikely. They have to hire a new specialist for that as their old one can't get the job done in a satisfactory manner and Koei has shown they would much rather be cheap about it. They can't fire the old one either as... that... just doesn't happen in Japanese business culture. You have to really, really screw up to get fired.

Business politics, oy.
