This thing is destined to fail and only fools would develop exclusively to this thing.
Gameover posted a video, in the other Xbox thread, from a guy by Hiphop gamer who brought up the point of pricing.
If Xbox One games are like $39.99 and the console itself isn't that expensive then maybe I could stomach the always online bullshit. . .but probably not."
PS4? Yes.
X1? **** NO!
What I may also do is actually go about applying a case/fan mod to my X360, giving it a fresh new look. I've been itching to do that for a while now. So long as I can still scour the interwebs for cool-looking parts.
what about KI?
PS4? Yes.
X1? **** NO!
Fuck no.
Console sounds ass. Just hoping Micro$oft doesn't buy out third party exclusives.
(Oh and I get a sick feeling in my stomach that Sony is going to pull the same "Publisher choice" used game bullshit."
REAL TALK ...
Yes that much news is promising.snip
"Ok for all who have taken there time to read this post I would like to point out first and foremost that I am PC gamer and in no way hold any bias towards any console.
Now I have been going through many posts by IGN recently and have seen many a time people complaining about DRM on the new Xbox, this coming from Sony fanboys and Xbox alike, so I want to explain why this is the best way to go for the consumer (us) and producers (game publishers).
First point I would like to make is that I disagree with used games this is because used games are bad for producers. This is because all money from games DO NOT go to the game publisher. All profits from used games go to place like Gamestop. Game Publishers take on the full front of the cost by investing into there games where millions of dollars are invested. Now how do you believe the company will be able to make the money back and continue making great games? obviously by selling there games to the public and making a profit. Now the problem here is that the used game market is actually taking this away from game publishers where places like gamestop and Eb games (Pretty much any used game outlet) will actively push the used game sale over the new, this is actually what they are trained to do. Now your asking why would they do this? why does this matter?. The reason this is done is because the profit margin for these businesses are ridiculous, and I mean ridiculous. about 85% of net profit for these stores come from used game sales which is GREAT for them. Now this is the reason it matters, it is NOT GREAT for us the consumers. As a consumer we like to get varied and intriguing game different to other played before. For this to be done a publisher (be it AAA or indie) needs to receive payment for this. This is a reason why many companies actually go under and the reason why we cant have more great games. One could argue why a publisher can't outlaw the selling of the used copy for companies like gamestop. The reason being is Gamestop has over the years acquired such a huge profit margin that they are now in a position to bully publishers. If a publisher were to reinforce the non sale of used games companies like Gamestop will actually just stop stocking there games on shelves, and this can really hurt a publisher more than one can think.
People like to compare the sale of used games to used Cd's saying the musician still makes a hell of a lot money so why wont the publisher do the same. This is because musicians have multiple revenue streams unlike game developers. Musicians gain revenue from Royalties, concerts, CD sales, digital sales, and radio time nets them even more sales. However compared to a game publisher there is a huge difference as the only current revenue stream is the point sale of their actual game
This is where DRM comes in. Game Publishers in order to make profit or cut down losses have came up with online passes which have been shot down by the gaming community as a whole. The thought of Online passes to most is annoying and hateful. However being a PC gamer I have grown accustomed to this and don't see the problem most have faced. Online Passes reels in profit that has been lost to used game sales and keeps servers and support for games alive. What helps keep the servers that us the consumers/gamers play on is the sale of the game. Now if a high percentage of the income is being taking away by used game sales by Gamestop who have no responsibility for using that money to provide tech support for consumers and maintaining servers this will end a company and is the reason for the shutting down of servers (take a lot of EA's recent server shut-downs). This is why Online Passes were created so that it can verify that the publisher itself is gaining income for their hard work and time and not somebody else.
DRM on the Xbox One is actually a sure way to counter used game sales and to make profit for the publisher. Now this is where the complaints come in for no reason. People start complaining about the XB1 having to check regularly for DRM counter measures, also people wanting to save money on games (which will actually happen with DRM as I will explain). This maybe a pain for some however everyone is complaining about the internet I would like to point out if you can afford an Xbox one or PS4 you can surely afford a stable internet connection (or better yet make a PC). So connecting online should not be that big of a deal and in this way Xbox is almost becoming closer to PC. By using these DRM measures it will actually have a big impact on gaming publishers especially indie publishers. Indie Publishers will now be able to be financially supported after producing a magnificent game which in turn they will be paid for by us the consumer and instead of being shut down after one game can actually start on a new project. Now the argument against this supporting indie gamers is the fact that indie gamers will be published under Microsoft and not the indie gamer itself. This is actually a good thing I am referring to the fact that it will stop many people from releasing the same stuff, take example from the the iTunes app store, we don't really need to see a thousand copies of a game like angry birds or temple run, do we?.
Last but not least the complaint that DRM stops people from getting games cheaper. This is complete and utter bollocks. I will now present the facts for what I just said otherwise leaving it as just a statement. If DRM is embraced into the gaming community for now it will be the Xbox One community, it will obviously as I have been trying to say give all profits for the work to the publisher. With all this money the publisher will be better of in respects to future investments in games and maintaining servers and tech support. Now with the extra revenue game publishers will easily be able to cut prices of games by insane amounts. Don't believe me?. As a PC gamer DRM is almost entirely apart of it meaning that out publisher are getting our money. Now what is happening with the game prices as publishers receive this. Drastic reductions everywhere PC gamers will know this. Just create a Steam account or a Origin account and go to the store. There a literally hundreds of games that get the prices knocked down insanely everyday from AAA publishers to indie. This is a fact. Now if DRM measures were in place no it is not giving people the right to do what they want with games as people argue, it is actually giving them the right that they should already have, to earn money for their hard work. In the end who is actually better of? The game Publisher yes, but also us the consumer. We in turn for supporting the publisher reap the rewards, we get better, games better story, improved mechanics, longer running servers and at the end of it all CHEAPER PRICES, who could complain with that?.
Heres a interesting article I found, it's from the perspective of a PC gamer.
