Any online improvements for DOA5U?

I've played Street Fighter IV (and all of its "upgrades"), Marvel vs Capcom 3, Street Fighter X Tekken, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Soul Calibur IV online and they all performed a billion times better online than DOA5. Unfortunately DOA5 has some of the worst net code I have ever experienced in a fighting game. (Aside from Tekken 6 that is).

What possible hope is there that DOA5U will perform any better online than DOA5? Is TEAM NINJA doing anything to improve the net code of the game? And even if they are, it's going to require a lot of improvement to get DOA5U to run well online.

I tested the online of DOA5 with opponents where the connection was 4 bars and also with opponents where the connection was 1 bar and there was no difference between the 4 bar matches and 1 bar matches at all. Each and every match was plagued by extreme lag and there was so much delay between the time I press my buttons and my character doing the action that it's not even funny. There is also the constant feeling that the entire game is running in slow-motion while playing online. The 4 bar matches are not any better than the 1 bar matches at all.

I've seen tons of articles about balance changes and new characters and features but has there been any word if TN are going to address the severe online issues that this game has? DOA5 is borderline unplayable online. What guarantee do we have that DOA5U won't be the same?

After all DOA5U is not a new game. It's just an upgraded version of DOA5. It still runs on the same engine as DOA5 and as such is very likely to perform much the same as DOA5. How much of an improvement can they really make?

If you see no difference between a 4 bar and a 1 bar connection, there's something terribly wrong. I usually see a clear difference in lag as the bars increase/decrese. A good 4 or 5 bar connection is smooth and the lag is unnoticeable once you get used to it.

Make sure that your internet connection is used for nothing else while playing, and I've heard a W-LAN connection has some inherent lag aswell.

Yea I agree, the game actually ran pretty good on a 4-5 connection and you definitely see a huge difference between 1 and 4 bar. The worst problem was before the first patch when you couldn't see the lag of your opponent until it was too late...bad times.

i hope they fix the matchmaking and i REALLLLLY hope they have a tag match in ranked/matchmaking as well.

the most enjoyable online fighting experience for me has to be virtual fighter 5 final showdown, that was so smooth online, it was so quick finding a match, and it showed you a face with various emotions depends on the players disconnect amount. simple yet really really good.

I've had 1 bars play like 5 bars and 5 bars play like 1 bars and 4 bars and 1 bars have no noticeable difference. That connection thing is hardly accurate at all and the online netcode in this game is pretty fucking terrible. TN really should go talk to the SCV guys and get their netcode.

Their netcode is good, but their match making is garbage tier. (SCV)

Talking to Namco would be nice. TR has god tier netcode, I'd say I get noticeable lag in maybe 1 out of 100 matches. In DOA5 it was maybe 1 out of 2 matches, on a good day.

Aside from that, FUCKING REMOVE THE OPTION TO DECLINE RANKED MATCHES. Seriously, WTF? It destroys the whole concept of ranked. You're not guaranteed an instant match and the ranks mean nothing when you can cherry pick opponents.

As much as I love this game, I have to disagree. The netcode is sadly utter shit.

Sorry but I would rather keep that option simply because there are REALLY laggy matches ... and I would hate to play the same person again (Win or Lose .. )

They have, yes. In particular they claim the PS3's netcode will be much better.
Apparently PS3 has worse lag issues than Xbox with this game. I can't perosnally couch for that as I've never play it on XBL, but the PS3 is pretty terrible. They've said they have worked on it extensively.

Nothing. They said the same about the 1.03 patch. We just have to hope for the best.

Yeah I was talking about SCV match making being bad. DOA5 netcode is a shit sandwhich, there's some decent connections, but it's in between the dark green shit and the soupy diaherra.

I do not believe you have actually played SCV online.

As far as I've heard, the only confirmation they gave was that they were working on an issue where players would be unable to enter certain lobbies.

I'd imagine that this is an issue with the individual player's NAT type though and not the game itself. Seems to me like it's the wrong area to be addressing the online concerns. They need to be working on the actual netcode.

Wait, they re did the engine from scratch? So the game feels different then? So the input buffer and everything has changed. I really hope it is for the better. This is the first I heard of this so I am quite shocked.

I do remember them saying they were reworking the netcode and it's hard to be hopeful but It's better to keep an open mind. No one knows what the online will even look like as they've revealed nothing about it (and not much else either...) but it's safe to say it'll be better than Vanilla's netcode and that's a start.

Now, best case scenario? It has VF5FS/TTT2/SCV tier netcode in which case, well... awesome.

You call that "cherry-picking"?

Back in my day, we actually SAW what someone looked like before we said "I'd hit it". Why should it be any different now? I mean, you do want to make sure it's a cherry, and not a cucumber (if you swing that way that is...).

Well, at E3 they were asked directly if there were any major improvements to the netcode and all they said was that certain stages were no longer extra laggy.

Unfortunately while all answers are replies, not all replies are answers. And that was definitely not an answer.

On the hopeful end of the spectrum, while Team Ninja was dishing out more pain to its fanbase by stating that the game would not be available as a downloadable add-on for DOA 5, they mentioned that this was not going to be possible due to numerous changes to the core of the game including the online play itself.

Yeah... they are strangely really tight lipped about this game. I really wish there were leakers for this game like other games. When we saw some of the new costumes and that offscreen gameplay I really thought we were going to see a lot more of stuff like that. Watch the last week before the game's release, new info and gameplay will come flooding in.
