DOA Secret/Hidden Characters...

I remember the first thing I wanted to do in a fighting game was unlock hidden characters which automatically made that character a hundred times better/cooler. So this discussion can really be about anything related to the topic and could go anywhere including if they'll make any characters hidden for DOA5U.

Some of my favorites:
Ayane (hidden: DOA 1): I honestly think Ayane was designed (appearance, moveset, and story-wise since she's the forgotten bastard child of a boss/ half-sister of the main protagonist) to be a secret character so it's a shame she was only hidden in 1 game. She's too good that you should have to work to get her is what I'm saying.

Tengu (hidden: DOA2U, DOA4, DOAD): Still hoping TN has a change of heart for his inclusion in ultimate

Nicole (hidden: DOA4): Best surprise in a fighting game...ever

Fighting games must not do very well at surprising you.

lol well I remember all of the sudden versing the spartan and thought for a second there was something wrong with the game. ha ha. Especially for a game like DOA it was very unexpected.

I still remember unlocking Ayane, it was a huge shock.. this way before you could spoil yourself silly with youtube and gamefaqs. These days though I hate unlockables, no time :/

Although they're a pain sometimes I do like unlockables (and appreciate TN's efforts to keep them in every game). That's just how I remember games as a little kid. You completed this or found __ and were rewarded for it. Now everything is given to you at the very start.

Though not from the main fighting game series but for me, it's Rio. She's a hassle-free secret character that only requires you to win against her with a Black Jack on your hand at your second visit to the casino. (after winning against her with a Black Jack for the first time)

Plus, she complements well with Helena during volleyball matches like she's some kind of luck booster.

This is DOA in general and that includes the DOAX spinoffs, right?

Yeah suddenly seeing that a Halo Spartan was your opponent and your fighting on a spaceship was pretty surreal.

Well, except you had to unlock her before she showed up in Time Attack... so you already knew she was there anyway.

I absolutely despise the concept of locked characters and really wish that developers would get over it already. While it can be rewarding to unlock a character after putting a ton of time into the game, it's ultimately just stupid. There are people out there who main the characters that take forever to unlock (like me in DOA4) and it's the farthest thing from being fun when your save data gets corrupted, or accidentally deleted, or whatever and you have to go through all of that bullshit again before you can actually start enjoying the game with your main again. Hell, it's not even fun doing it the first time, either.

And let's not forget about tournament organizers who have to unlock everything on multiple consoles.
