Help a Scrub

Hey, I'm a scrub, just picked up DOA5U, what's a beginner friendly character, and does anyone want to get any matches in? I don't know how good my connection will be, but ya know, I'm willing to give it a try.

Anyone but Akira. xD
Honestly, pick whoever you think is the coolest and appeals to you most. In this game you won't really get screwed over with a horrible "low-tier" characters or an impossible-to-use character as a result, and the fact that you're interested and having fun is the main thing that will motivate you to get better.
That said, Hitomi and Hayate are characters that are decently easy to pick up and are generally well-rounded with teh game's fundamentals (such as mix-up strings, strike power, throw power, move execution save the raijin , damage, spacing, holds, etc.)
Also, bonus recommendation to Ryu Hayabusa. Not because of beginner-friendliness (he's actually a fairly atypical character in his tools and capabilities), but simply because he's the coolest mother-fucker in the game by a landslide.

Are you on XBL or PSN and where are you from?

The scrub friendliest characters are Hitomi, Kasumi, Hayabusa, and Hayate. Their strings are easy to learn and you can practically win a match blind with these characters. Lol

Back in DoA3 I picked up Bayman. He is the exact opposite of what I normally play (the fast, kicking types). He wasn't too hard to pick up and GOD his neck break oki move to this day is the best way to finish a match. Though I wanted to learn Christie back then, I couldn't figure her out.

In DoA4, Bayman got a hell of a lot more confusing mostly due to me taking it more serious and the changes from 3 to 4. It was trying to understand how his game worked against characters. I think when it comes to your question, you shouldn't only be thinking about if someone has easy strings to do. You should consider how your character is affected by the rest of the roster.

I do agree, Hayate, Hitomi, and Busa are good choices. I would say Eliot isn't bad if you like that pacing. Ultimately, you need to play with all of them to find the one(s) that appeal to you. That, and learning other characters style is the only way to lose your scrubbiness. Once you find your mains, you will love them.

You would do well to either pick a female character or have your explanation of your man fetish if you go bro-action.

I'm kidding... but :bayman: isn't.

^ If you do what he said, you'll lose faster than a goldfish trying to run away from a piranha.

What's so bad about Akira?
Akira is very hard to learn and use effectively. Even in Virtua Fighter, he's cited as being the most difficult character to learn. While he can cause good damage and has a stupidly good hit box, his commands are tricky to pull off for newcomers.

Okay, well, I'm not in the States right now, and I don't know how good my connection will be if you're worried about a Midwest to West Coast connection, but I'll probably give Hayate a shot.
