I'm really hype for this game. But it's going to be my first Guilty Gear experience ever lol.

What other 2D fighter is this similar too?
Other than wanting to compare it to Blazblue and Hokuto no Ken PS2, there aren't any fighters like it. There is Skullgirls of course, but that game is Easy Mode :V

Yeah. Blazblue's only similar in artistic and musical styles, and even then just barely. Can't speak for HnKPS2, but from what I saw on Friday Night Fisticuffs, it's barely similar as well. Guilty Gear Accent Core +R should be on PSN/XBL, so that's your best bet.

BlazBlue has more similarities with Marvel 3 (and TvC) compared to Guilty Gear. The former 2 are more about pulling off long combos. Guilty Gear on the other hand has relatively shorter combos but with a greater emphasis on okizeme (the wake up game). The closest game to it would be IMO Vampire Savior/Darkstalkers 3.

BlazBlue CP is ASW's Darkstalkers thanks to the OD mechanic. GGAC+R is ASW's SFIII3rdS because is not very accesible and is focused on high level play. GGXrd seems also high level play focused but the new Roman Cancel system looks pretty friendlier than FRC mechanic which might help his popularity. But as D3V stated, GG has shorter combos and the okizeme game is really strong. I try to main Venom and knock down is one of the stuffs I must do so I can keep momentum while in BB I want corner carry mainly as I main Tsubaki. Once in the corner, I hope for a whiffed DP or stupid movement so I can get a fatal counter to get up to 4k dmg spending only 25% heat or spend some time in drive charging to get a bit more advantage.

Those underlined bits sounds like Darkstalkers 3 to me.

In Darkstalkers 3 you can roll up the ground really fast and can block in air which is a thing that most SFs don't allow. BB is more defensive friendly than GG. Also, BBCP got shortened combos and very few chars can full-bar K.O. with a single combo so, IMHO, isn't like UMvC3. The OD is very similar to that mechanic I can't remember the name in Darkstalkers and I believe that execution is easier in Darkstalkers than SFIII. This is why I compare ASW's two main FGs like that. I know that you can roll up in SFIII but is not that good than Darkstalkers'. As in GG you can't roll up the ground, oki game becomes stronger than BB and that's also a reason why I compare to that. Most games has strong oki game but in terms of general view BBCP is more like a Darkstalkers game and GGAC+R is more like a SFIII3rdS game.
And as a miscelanous, Mori's favorite FG not made my ASW is Darkstalkers 3 while Ishiwatari's SFIII3rdS xD

Missing the point. GG is often compared to VSav because both games put a premium on oki. Ask any player who's played both GG and BB and they will tell you that the main difference between both is how oki is more important in GG. In the same way where if you compare VSav to any Marvel game, you'll get a similar response on how VSav places more emphasis on oki than Marvel.

All right. Now I can finally play the People's Gear and Stone Cold Stun Edge in this new installment of Arcsys's Attitude Era... when I go visit my old man.

Oh man the input window for Overdrives is so much more lenient than past games. I'm so used to Accent Core where you have to be ridiculously precise.

Not really, if by much.

I can really see how catered to newer generation players it is. Opponent slow downs on Roman Cancels because newer players couldn't get used to the old ones, easier input buffering, a silly slow down chance on clashes where whoever gets the first hit gets about 10 seconds to do just about whatever they want.
While it is a good step to draw people in I think the slow down stuff to act as a visual confirmation beyond "I just glowed a color and cut the rest of my animation" is too much. I can see how good these things will be for combos but it's a shame that people can't just attempt to learn fighting games that are notoriously difficult to play. It took me forever to get used to some of Chip's stuff but I didn't give up on it just because I couldn't do RCs right.

I'll tell you what though, this game is gonna be fun as hell to watch at tournaments. The camera angle changes are crazy.

That's their goal: To attract more players. People barely played GG in Murica so there would be no point in making a new one that's exactly the same. I mean, i'd still play it but that's just me. Also, things like Sol's Dustloop is still strict as well as other things i assume are strict. I heard I-No got easier to use as well though. Not everyone has that same determination that you and i have, hence why you barely see Akiras and Jackys.

You have to consider though that most of these changes were by Pachi, who before joining arc won GG at SBO.

Even without the consideration for newer players, FRCs would have never survived into the new game anyway since both him and Ishiwatari didn't like how they turned out. Aside from the timing, the biggest issue was that you got more reward for using 25% tension options over 50% ones.

we do attempt however it's called "notoriously difficult" for a reason. i spend like a couple hours a day just trying to figure out how to get decent combos in all these fighters

My PS4 arrives Wednesday and I'm pretty much just going to be playing GGXrd on it. I wonder if I can play on pad well enough...I really hate the dpad on PS family controllers.
