Yes. If a player is entirely beyond you and you aren't up for the challenge, don't play them. You don't need to waste their time though. That IS disrespectful.
I did that. I stopped playing them.
Lol at "arent up for the challenge" though.
Maybe you should learn the finer points of the game instead of going for easy wins?
Are you shitting me?
this is DOA we have the most forgiving counter system in ANY fighting game you can always do something. if you aren't going to try then dont even get on.
You can't counter during certain stuns, or during juggles, and as I play online, there's issues with input reading so they don't always come out all the time.
I only stop trying when trying isn't possible anymore.
Combo-fucking says: "I want the easy win!" If not, why is it over-emphasized - especially in tag? That's the ironic part! Why must the loser "L2P" when all the winner did was memorize input and get the timings down! Apparently, 'learn the finer points' doesn't apply because they don't need them!
Which brings up something else: what the hell ever happened to learning, but also appreciating the basics? It can be as simple as leaning how the triangle works and manipulating it to your advantage or the finer things like footsies, proper spacing, baiting and punishing? Most players are doing what is honestly pretty basic: "Hit a bunch of buttons!"
I'll use Mila for example (pardon me Argentus): She does have a pretty basic moveset and the only thing that makes her viable are her grabs/throws, but alot of people complain when they get caught in them. Hell, I use Alpha! She's got both and it's unfortunate that she could win from using only two throws though she has like ten! But wait! She's supposed to combo-fuck (as risky as that is) or get combo-fucked!
Now, I could learn everything damn thing in the game, but once I'm in the air - nevermind, my ground game is gone, too! The being talked down to is what bugs the fuck out of us! Yet, if the loser makes such a retort: Noob/Scrub, etc. And really, saying "get better" - doesn't really help.
Its nice to see the rarity that is someone else with a head on their shoulders.
Just keep in mind that the fgc will completely disregard all reasoning and simply do their argument of "l2p scrub!"
But especially your first and last paragraphs are very important truths.
Okay here's my serious answer. Competitive games like fighters affect our egos whether we admit it or not. Obviously winning boosts our egos and losing hurts it. In situations where one player perceives that the other will beat him/her, one defense mechanism some people use is the "I give up" mentality. When you're in a situation where you think you're going to lose (or in a way where you don't want to lose such as by a lengthy combo) and don't feel like you have control over the outcome, quitting and losing because you "let them win" is an easier way to deal with a loss and gives you some control over the situation. On the flip side, the player who thought he/she would clearly win may get upset because he/she feels like the opponent is taking part of their victory away by giving up which impacts their ego b/c they're unsure if they would have won had the opponent continued to fight (hence the hate mail saying you're disrespectful). So that's my explanation on why some people get upset at you (and why you sometimes quit.

)
Too true.
My personal reasoning is
"If I can't control my character, that means I'm not playing. And if I'm not even involved, why pay attention? Might as well focus on something else."
Oh, yeah! Comebacks are awesome! I've had a few of those! But @ 1%? If all you need is a simple jab to win and you spent 99% combo-fucking, I would say you're trolling! You know you have it in the bag! Where did we say "we disallow combos"? This would be no different than the "Stop grabbing me!" cries! I mean, there's a difference between a legit comeback and someone saying: "I totally bodied this guy. I'll let him get one hit!" I could understand if there wasn't a strong emphasis on juggles - and air garbage. Is this because the neutral/ground games just too fundamental? Both games require too much thinking! Funny, how this stuff is learned, but once the combo-bull starts, it's tossed aside (that is until you start dropping shit!)
IOW, only 1% of the game is being played though you spent time (hopefully) learning the other 99%, just because that 1% looks better. And what's worse is getting mail from someone who ignored the 99 and got beat by the one who didn't! That is the argument! Being fundamentally sound, trumps not being fundamentally sound! (ie: "I prefer to stay grounded! I don't buy into all the glitz/glamour/hype!" Ironic, given that this is the perceived life of a celebrity. And the same is said about them as a retort: "What did you expect?") This is why the FGC seems sour at times - "too many scrubs!" according to you!
We don't like it, but we are dealing with it! If it means, quitting - so cooler heads will prevail! If something is not working and you are constantly getting pissed, why keep getting irritated by the irritant? Makes no sense! Leave. Comeback. The same might happen, but it might not since your head is cooler!
There's also the issue of getting it all at once. (ie: combo-fucking) What if that fails? I see this too much! Once I take away something (combos), players have no clue what to do. If you were fundamentally sound, you'd realize it's not always best to do this! The problem is: people play fighting games as if combos are the fundamentals and all of us know better! I'd take and rather get beat by someone who knows fundamentals and uses them like a boss rather than someone who doesn't - only relying on combos like scrubs! (See how I twisted your words?)
We all have valid points here!
That happens so much...the whole "prevent their combos and they have nothing left" because they relied so much on it that they never learned to fight or adapt.
Yes comebacks at 1% are uncommon but
still possible.
I'm not saying that you're unskilled at the game, I couldn't care less about how good or bad you perform in a game. It's your mentality that makes me wanna shout LOLZ WUT A SCRUB and nothing else.
"Stop grabbing me", "air garbage", "fundamentals", "combo-fucking". These and many other mechanics are all part of the game for everyone to freely utilize them. If you don't like the content of a game... change game. Don't blame a player for playing lmao. If anything blame the developers.
"I'd rather get beaten by insert-scrub-caprice than blabla salt salt"
Winning is winning, just accept it.
TL;DR
STOP THE SALT AND PLAY
There is no salt and we can't play.
That is the point.
I stop paying attention and put my controller down because I am locked out of the game. I have no controls.
To those who ignore what we are saying, and say "learn to play", or to those who are the type to send the "why aren't you trying/playing" messages despite essentially stunlocking or doing extended combos the entire time...
...you do understand that you are basically just doing this to us when you say that right?
Its a dick move, and that's why I get irritated. I don't give a shit if I lose or not. But when I'm virtually locked out of my controls by the opponent and they have the gall to say "why aren't you fighting back?", that's what pisses me off.
