See, I mean no offense, I'm just using you as an example here, but this roughly translates to "I don't want to learn my character and I'm glad now I don't have to", and part of why I don't agree with...no I don't agree with this way of implementing variations.

That isn't how I am, so im not lazy and just say "im going to counter pick that characters variation with mine". It really no different than counter picking with characters. Counter picking will always exist.

As said already variations have different styles and not all are into rushdown and not all are into zoning. For example if someone didnt like to use Sub Zero's zoning type variation they can use the one where they can do a lot of rushdown.

I know.

The issue I'm bringing up is

A) this adds a second layer of counter picking.

B) if someone doesn't like zoning with sub zero, then they shouldn't be picking a zoning character.

But my personal beef is that the way variations are implemented, it negates itself. In the past games each character had different styles they could switch between. But in mkx it is just three different characters you can choose from in character select, all with the same sub zero skin.

When instead of one sub zero with three versions, they could have had elder sub zero, younger sub zero, and frost taking up those three slots. see what I'm saying?

The variations were to make up for the small roster, but its kinda dumb because they wound up expanding the roster instead, but just having one character take up three slots in character select instead of just making three characters.

Its just.....there's literally NO PURPOSE to mkx variations. At all. The only argument for them I've heard so far is "well now if you don't like how a character plays you can pick another" which is just...I'm sorry its kind of a barrel scraper. If I don't like how a character plays I pick another or learn that character.

And yes I understand because I was never good with mileena and now with a grappler style I can actually play her to my tastes but I still would have rather had say, nitara the vampire be the biting grappler and I dunno, khameleon get the invisibility teleport gameplay, while mileena sticks to her sai throwing. Id rather of had that instead of just three mileenas at character select.

Errr it's going to be quite a battle for my true main. I hope that I find 1 before MWC & SCR. It's up for grabs for 5 kharacters, but have a feeling that it's going to come down to 2.

first off these characters were chosen for story significance and second variation does not equal a whole character, variations allow them to put many more playstyles in than they should have any right to. if they kept it traditional they could probably create a few more characters true, but the playstyles wouldn't be nearly as varied it would imo be net loss.

No.

If you could change styles in gameay like before, THAT is allowing variation. But only being able to lick between three styles at character select is essentially turning every character into their own shotoclone/cyborg ninja style copies. Which defeats the purpose of style variants IMO.

If they really wanted to have gameplay variation either A) let you switch during gameplay or b) just make more characters.

The way they did it in mkx just defeats all the point of it, to me.

Awwww Goro isn't as awesome as sheeva. Where's all the unflinching armor?!

So lame. Shokan sho7ldnt even need combos.

Oh well. I'll use his grappler variation even though it doesn't hold a candle to sheevas grapples. Just gonna chalk it up to her being a guardian, hence a better defensive character, with armor and zoning punishes, and him being a warrior, hence being more about kombos.

Well let's see tremor then.

Jacqui will be one of the more difficult characters to play with her run combos. I'm dying to see someone use her in a match already.

edit; Just as I say this I see two little combo videos.

Shotgun variation w the restands hmmmmmm interesting.

Lol neither are ugly, they are both pretty attractive people just in a different way (I can actually say this for all the 4 new generation fighters). I actually think Takeda and Jacqui look great together.

I could kinda see where people call Takeda unattractive, but I think it's just that we can't see his handsomeness well in his main outfit like how he is in his alt which makes him look more attractive. As for Jacqui, I can see where she may not be considered attractive perhaps because of her tough(?) - looking face. But I'll tell you when her face is relaxed like how it is in story (I only saw a bit of it) you'll see how prettier she is then.

I'm the other way around, I think jaquis ugly. Or at least, not cute or pretty at ALL.

I'm straight and I could go for takeda lol.

Jacqui has the best face out of all the characters this is incorrect thnx for playing u go home with a t shirt.

That ugly ass hair evens it back out though. Kinda like how mileena is a butter face but looks gorgeous with her sexy hair in 9 and 10.

Jacqui just ain't to my tastes, sorry.
