Hey, I'm not against younger characters in video games. Please don't get me wrong. I haven't played the Tekken series and am not too familiar with it, but Lili was actually one of the characters I wanted to try. I am aware of her age and the style behind her character design. Gonna agree with Tyaren that she looks older than she actually is. That is just how she is portrayed. I think it goes without saying that the presentation of a character, no matter how old they are is very important in any game and should be considered when analyzing that character.
I've been familiar Marie's lolita archetype for quite some time. It's not something I'm new to seeing. But what I'm a little upset with seeing is all this deflecting. I understand this isn't the first time this type of character has been created and/or sexualized. It's the fact that people are trying to justify her being sexualized and it being okay because "Look at
this character from
this game! And they did it
much worse!!" No. Please don't. Still not okay. Not okay in
that game and not okay in
this one. Just my opinion, of course.
And sorry for steering this thread back on the Marie issue. I haven't posted much, but from what I read, some things needed to be clarified and I just wanted to share my thoughts. This thread is obviously not just about Marie.
I thought the earlier comments of how the different sexes being sexualized differently were very interesting. And I'm not sure if this is just me, but I've noticed in the gay community on DOA, gay male players will tend to choose the more revealing outfits for the female characters they use. I've never really understood this and don't know what purpose it serves beyond just liking the outfit. Anyone have any thoughts?
