A Discussion of sexualised design of male/female characters

Oh my lord please don't show me those foul Marie pics~_~ That's the only thing I have a problem with...she's supposed to be this CUTE and MODEST girl, but that puts her in a position that I don't view her as, which is sexy and provocative. I don't mind her appearance or age, but I can't stomach her in this new sexy image, that's not the Marie I was drawn to when she was first announced.:(

Tell you what, it's even worse that close up, especially for me because of my eyesight.

My eyesight is shit hot and i can definitely see ever so slight vagina lips around in the corner. The colouring is lighter compared to the panties and closer to skin colour.........

yuck.

Hey, I'm not against younger characters in video games. Please don't get me wrong. I haven't played the Tekken series and am not too familiar with it, but Lili was actually one of the characters I wanted to try. I am aware of her age and the style behind her character design. Gonna agree with Tyaren that she looks older than she actually is. That is just how she is portrayed. I think it goes without saying that the presentation of a character, no matter how old they are is very important in any game and should be considered when analyzing that character.

I've been familiar Marie's lolita archetype for quite some time. It's not something I'm new to seeing. But what I'm a little upset with seeing is all this deflecting. I understand this isn't the first time this type of character has been created and/or sexualized. It's the fact that people are trying to justify her being sexualized and it being okay because "Look at this character from this game! And they did it much worse!!" No. Please don't. Still not okay. Not okay in that game and not okay in this one. Just my opinion, of course. ;)

And sorry for steering this thread back on the Marie issue. I haven't posted much, but from what I read, some things needed to be clarified and I just wanted to share my thoughts. This thread is obviously not just about Marie.

I thought the earlier comments of how the different sexes being sexualized differently were very interesting. And I'm not sure if this is just me, but I've noticed in the gay community on DOA, gay male players will tend to choose the more revealing outfits for the female characters they use. I've never really understood this and don't know what purpose it serves beyond just liking the outfit. Anyone have any thoughts?

I just think they like the outfits. Regardless of sexuality, if that person sees an outfit they consider sexy they'll still choose it right away. It's kinda like Beyonce, who has a pretty big LGBT following. When she went to Gala with that revealing sheer dress, there were plenty of homosexual men and women alike who liked the outfit and said it was hot and sexy. A girl I followed on instagram who liked girls(I have a crush on her) even once posted a pic of a well dressed guy and said that she considered him attractive, although she was attracted to the same sex.

You don't have to be sexually attracted to a gender to recognize someone is good looking. As for gays picking the most revealing female outfits I've noticed it but I don't really get it.

With sexualization of men and women being different I'm sure this has been said before but people that are attracted to women and people attracted to men are typically into different things.

*sigh* And we are back to this topic again...

Sorry Tyaren, but this is one of the big reasons i made this topic so we could actually discuss without the impeding lock down hanging over our heads. id like to think the idea that there doesn't have to be a "final word" will make it less volatile since nobody feels pressured to win the argument before they cant speak about it anymore. in the future Mika buttslaps and any other censorship topics will have their home here as well.

anyhow is there really a strong correlation? i mean this is DOA most people pick the skimpy outfits.

Example: Ein's entire DOA5 costume wardrobe is way more popular with females and gay males I noticed than with Ein players that are straight, I can't stand 95% of his costumes yet there's someone out there that can't get enough of them.

Hitomi is also another good example, when it comes to sexualised costumes Aloha, Puppy and Bellatrix are probably my favourites, yet I can pretty much guarantee there's probably somebody out there who can't stand these costumes or her sexualised costumes in general.

I don't see a problem with this topic anyway, everyone here is civilized in discussion right now and despite what opinions are brought forward everyone seems to be pretty chill with each other and what's been brought up. (Although that can change at any time)

If everyone in this thread was engaging in all out war on the other hand......then i think it would probably be best to close it down, lol.

he's talking about the Marie discussion specifically which has been going since before this topic was even a thing. it goes nowhere, solves nothing, and a lot of people are sick of hearing the same thing over and over. no its not going to cause a huge riot, but its rather boring if it dominates the discussion in lew of more interesting topics that could be brought up.

Yeah, let's just leave it unfinished. I have my opinion and I'm sure everyone else has theirs, and it doesn't seem like it'll ever reach a reasonable conclusion, which is fine as long as we're not biting each other's heads off over it.

But back to what he was saying, sexuality doesn't seem to affect player's DOA costume choices. I've read on one DOA forum that some girls who are straight actually don't mind the revealing costumes, and choose them because DOA to them is almost like dress up and they want their character to be sexy like they want to be in real life. And to some players, non revealing costumes are sexy. It's all about proper balance to me so I'll pick something tasteful over tacky and ultra revealing.

There'd be less ammo if they didn't pull shit like those pictures Tyaren posted. It's gotta be JP only because if you were caught with those pictures here cops would try to arrest you.

Something that could be interesting, have people list their top 10 "hottest" outfits for one or both genders (meaning two separate lists of 10 if you choose to do both). Doesn't have to be in any specific order. My list for the dudes would be

MALES

-Bayman C2 wetsuit
-Bayman C9 mma dlc
-Jann C7 5LR tanktop & jeans (wet)
-Hayate C5 training dummy
-Hayate C9 bare chest version of C2
-Rig C6 5LR sleeveless letterman jacket
-Leon C2 ammo belt across chest
-Raidou C4 one of the ones without a top piece of cloth (not proud of myself for this one lol)
-Ein C7 painter suit
-Jacky C3 tanktop & tan pants (wet)

Just interesting to see the different preferences people have

Ein's Painter
Ryu's Spirit of the Fighter
Eliot Cat Hoodie
Brad's Tank Top
Rig(pretty much anything)

im not going to do the girls, too wide of a selection and im going to be stuck looking at the selection screen forever.

I'd share, but there's wayyy too many outfits I find hot. I typically lean towards the outfits that expose undergarments and skin when wet, sheer material, and outfits that accentuate the legs alone and nothing else. If I had to choose two from both genders, Kasumi's Violet Bikini and Eliot's grey shirt and jeans would probably be the higher tiers TBH.

lol I think I'll come back to the list bc I'd really have to give that some thought. But in terms of sexualizing the guys, can we just... okay, just hear me out. Not some creepy fetish or anything, but... can we please get some damn glasses for all the other guys? Just picture Kokoro's glasses on Jann or Mila's on Rig. I think those would look most appropriate on those two, specifically. There's another topic for ya.

Guys are easier to do because they have like 1/8th the outfits :p Typically I find I like transparency, skin tight materials, and glimpses of torsos. I'm really curious what exactly it is that makes a wet see-through white shirt stuck to skin more attractive than being plain shirtless.

Aviator sunglasses are a fetish for me lol

It would have been easy to implement glasses for everyone but that was just too much effort for TN I guess. Eliot's the only guy that can use them on any outfit, right?

Aviator glasses are good, but nothing can surpass my love for big frame hipster glasses  TN can name the price and I'd buy the DLC in a heartbeat

Think so. I think it takes a certain kinda guy to pull off aviators. Nothin' wrong with wanting that, though. But I mean legit, prescription (or non-prescription), these were in before you even knew about them, thick, plastic rimmed, no lens having, bought 'em at the drugstore from that discount rack, not even mainstream glasses. I WANNA GO FULL ON HIPSTER WITH MY JANN, MAN.

I find cop uniform Bass & Rig to be quite sexual.

But to be more on topic here. When it comes to games as a whole, I find both genders to be sexualized. Its just with sexualizing men, its more subtle, IMO.
Laura Croft (spelling?) had to have skimpier clothing and big breasts to be hot. To whereas Nathan Drake just needed to be fit with a button undone on his shirt. And both are equally sexy ;)

They really need to do so little with guys, me and others went nuts over the addition of moving chest hair on Nathan

This isn't inherently sexual yet I feel about it the way I imagine others feel about the fourth version pictures russian posted before

Edit- and this

The rippling of his shirt against his body in the wind... I'm not the biggest fan of uncharted but I think I'm gonna get U4 day one
