Can DOA finally be taken seriously?

Why are some of you purposely misquoting me? The size of the scene has helped expand every game, of course if the game is trash no one will play it, who stated otherwise? Some of you people and your selective reading.

I guess with this economy living under rocks is becoming more of a norm.
Oh my LOL

Or maybe no one is misreading anything.

Or maybe the fact of the matter is DOA5 is being seen in a more positive light. It's spreading everywhere and getting a lot of publicity. Plain and simple.

Better off not making another one of those at all.
Hey, man. sex appeal aside, the first one was a fantastic game mechanically. I had so many friends (guys and gals) want to play that with me for hours on end. It was a great game for both people who never played games before and those that have. Really, talking smack about the first is uncalled for.

The sequel, however, that one manages to be trashier than almost any game I've ever played. That one deserves an eternity of ripping.

Seeing DOA5 get a serious approach now makes me think they could make DOAX great again if they ever wanted to revisit it though.

Uh, wrong? The scene have been big for some fighters much before as stated. The new results has nothing to do with the scene being "bigger" but much more with some games getting more serious. Look at Mortal Kombat. No one took that game serious before because the depth wasn't to be taken serious to now. It has nothing to do with the size of the scene now. The same will go for DOA. If it want to be taken serious it's going to have to carry itself as a serious fighter.
This doesn't make much sense to me. The more exposure something receives, the higher the gain for potential fans. The more people play it, the more people you get who would've loved it from the start had they tried it to begin with thus resulting in a larger community of people who play that game. The only reason I'd give MK the time of day as a fighter now is because of how many people talked about it and showed it off. They have gained +1 viewer/player of that game which results in growth of the scene.

From what you're saying, it's like a game isn't allowed to have a personality if it's to be played and thought of in a certain way. To put your idea in practice, if any game wanted to be a good action game with a large scene, it should present itself seriously like Ninja Gaiden. Devil May Cry, No More Heroes, Lollipop Chainsaw, Anarchy Reigns, they're apparently not good to begin with because they don't take themselves as seriously on the outside like NG does? And then, if people were to see these games and become interested in them, it wouldn't result in a growth of the scenes around these games but only that people would take them more seriously... ?

Can you explain? I don't really get it. Spell-checking would be nice as well, it's hard to extrapolate a solid idea from your writing. And I'm not trolling, I'm genuinely interested in what you're trying to get across.

What he's trying to say when he says a serious fighter, is a fighter that has depth, the exact thing we've all been asking for since DoA3. I mean, look at Street Fighter 4, it has a semi-comedic art style, and yet it has pulled, literally 1,000 man tournies. DR2K is just, yet another fan boy, like Blaze, who refuses to see truth. I agree, the scene has done nothing but gotten bigger, but by DoA4's release, the scene was VERY much there, DoA4 was just such fucking garbage nothing would have saved it. No one is misquoting him.

Yes, but shadow also seems to be stating that it won't be taken seriously, won't be played, won't gain a scene because of the game's sex appeal. He seems very hung up on it.

No, he's definitely not. I mean I don't want to speak for him, but I feel him and I are on the same side on this. We just mean that the game needs to be promoted well, people need to talk about it, the community needs to carry it and be mature, WE need to act like we want the game to be taken, WE need to be the community that people WANT to be a part of. As a community we need to be accepting, inviting, comfortable, and classy. DoA5, as it stands so far, has the elements of a serious fighter. MK vs DC or any MK between MK:U3 and MK9 were garbage because the games were terrible, much like DoA4. No one played them, there was no scene, and those games even had Tom Brady, probably the best spokesman in gaming trying to get a scene for them. DoA5 needs to do what MK9 did, it has the elements of a serious fighter, now we all need to prove it is.

Edit: Also to reply to Blaze, even though I shouldn't, everything I said in chat was true, except for when I was asking what sidestepping is... although people seriously responding to that was hilarious. The only thing negative I said was that I like Tekken's graphics better than DoA's, and I still do. TTT2 in the arcade has the best graphics of any fighting game, in my opinion.

I tried to protect the rep that DOA5 had going for it. But when they had to bash it for ENTIRE series talking about: "No one cares about Tit for Fighter 5" "DOA5 is for children" etc. etc. I tried to keep composure. They wouldnt even give the game a time of day.
What you did is fight stream monsters by becoming one yourself.

As many folks within the FGC have stated. Stream Monsters are the last people you should pander to/address since they contribute almost nothing to the community outside of stream views. Do what every sensible person in the FGC does in this situation - turn off the stream chat.

If someone wants to protect the reputation of the game and its community, the worst thing you could possibly do is dis the other fighting games to make yours look better. The inanity of such an action astounds me. I'm sorry, but it really does - if you let nerves get the better of you, you're gonna have a bad time.

That aside, I think this game could be taken seriously enough. It could do with some improvements, but it already appears to be rather solid, even with my main sucking complete ass at the moment (from what I've been told). The turnout for the game pre-release was rather nice, that's a good sign.

I'd rather not speculate on things to come, but we'll see how this turns out after release. I'm simply wagering that yes, this game will be a respected addition to fighting games. Not "wicked respected," but enough to have some actual competition.
