Has anyone else observed a change between the early DOA5 promotion /vanilla DOA5 AND DOA5LR?
Here are some of my observations and thoughts that I thought would be interesting to discuss:
Looking back, do you see some sort of change? I do. (Not that I'm complaining) Especially when playing the alpha demo again. The atmosphere of the game seems much more different.
Let's discuss.
Here are some of my observations and thoughts that I thought would be interesting to discuss:
- The early "I'm a Fighter" promotions featured Hitomi. Hitomi also was in the alpha-demo. She was given serious promo despite not having a major place in the story. Was this Team Ninja's attempt to become more "serious" with their fighters and promotion?
- Borrowing some VF characters also made the game seem more "serious" in my eyes tbh.
- Same goes with the introduction of Mila - a fierce, serious competitor. Compare it to Marie Rose and Honoka, who were the new characters in DOA5U/LR and are arguably "Otaku" based.
- Ultimate marked the release of the DLC spam. DOA5 had swimsuits, but they were related to DOAX and thus to be expected. Was it here that Team Ninja realised there was serious $$$ to be made and decided to change their tone? I think my copy of Ultimate came with a cloth or mousepad too?
- I feel like the base game also tried to appeal to Western audiences, or at least borrow some urban aspects to make it look "cool" e.g. The "Gotta Move On" track and dare I say Mila.
