So I have been playing doa since it came out on the xbox. Id say i did pretty ok in doa4,A+ for a casual gamer who doesn't go on that much. I decided to pick up doa 5 and see if I still got it.. and boy do I not lol. I am trying to get use to this much slower pace doa. I use to play on the defense and use counters. But not only are the counters a little harder to pull off but I notice they got quite the nerf . So basically im getting raped by some one who just spams mid punches. Its doa but it feels very different... any suggestions. lol

Keep playing DOA5 trust me, you'll get use to it. Oh yeah, the input doesnt response as good as DOA4 & its much harder/cheap this time. I've want through the same problem when I first played DOA5 but now I am much better. :)

Use crushes. Crushes everywhere.

Unless you're overwhelmingly confident in anticipating your opponent's next move, don't attempt a counter hold. Not worth it. Guard more instead.

wat?

You can't just spam counters now. You have to get in the rhythm of the attack to counter. If a Kasumi starts spamming her punch strings and you get hit, you have to make you that you do a counter when you see her punch coming. You can't just take hits and start randoming countering and hoping to land the counter.

Agreed. I was an A in doa4 and i thought ill be just as good in DOA5, but when i first started, i was horrible. Now im much better than i was in DOAa. Some pros i couldnt beat at all in DOA4, i can beat in DOA5. DOA5 is just more technical, so it requires more thinking than DOA4.

Yea it will take some getting use to Im basically unlearning all my doa4 tactics. what kinda throws me off off as well is im trying to find/fight low level E players so its not like over kill, but there owning me as well lol. But that could be because it seems you only can letter upgrades in ranked. So one could be a veteran, never touch ranked and be owning as a E. I wish they kept the doa 4 online setup.

DOA4 was faster than 5 aesthetically, though command inputs are tighter in this one, making you have to move your fingers quicker.
And making your thumbs hurt too...well sometimes. The command inputs are tighter in a good way & in a bad way. Oh & DOA5 is way more frustration than DOA4.

I find some of the 46inputs far too strange in DOA5, with certain ones responding like they should, and others... not.

You're not the only one.
Good to know.
Though of course the downside to that is that it's likely my failure is the result of strange game mechanics and not my own shortcomings, leading less chance to the possibility of me improving.

Hey I thought I just did something wrong, good to hear this has to do with the game. I pull out Bayman's 6P+H more often than the 46P+H I'm trying. I wonder what the problem is...

A few people on my list have also complained about the strict inputs in DoA5. I thought it was just them but apparently it's more wide spread. Playing the heck out of VF5FS on a dpad helped me with command inputs. The timing and response in DoA5 feels far more similar to VF than previous DoA installments. A good thing IMO

But even when you excute the moves correctly sometimes it won't response or it may come out as a different move which can fuck up your play style. :( The movement is fine but unfortunately it feels like the old school Tekken sometimes.

Kasumi, Ryu, Hitomi & Helena's :3::3::P: & :3::3::K: all have strict timing as well & dodging throws is so what difficult for some reason.
Interesting. I actually have no difficulty with Ryu's 33P or 33K.
Try using the Joystick instead of the d-pad. may help (diagonal inputs read funny on DOA5's PS3 Dpad, imo)

I agree that DOA 5's "feel" is vastly different from any DOA game. I just got DOA 5 yesterday and I've noticed a huge difference in how the game plays. Its still DOA at its core but it feels a lot more refined. The countering window and damage is small. The introduction of sidestepping vastly changes how the game is played. The few matches I've played online were blow outs.I was beating people with just spacing, poking, and stun combos.I never got countered once.I thought I was playing VF until I nailed my last opponent with mid punch counter hold near a wall with Lei-Fang.Then I was like "Oh now I'm playing a DOA game".
