No you don't have to since i'm simply going to stop this and back to topic i would say tag and single should both be standard. So unlike most events where there are only single tournaments i would suggest that there should be standard DOA single and tag tournaments at each event for as much as it is possible anyway. Are you going to make me do my job, guys?
Cause it seems like thats the direction this is going.
People barely show up for single I doubt having two separate tournaments will help anything especially if money is involved. What is the plan for putting money into both? I'm sure most offline players right now don't even play tag seriously if at all.
Most offline players right now are willing to do anything that makes this game feel like it's actually a fighting game. Traditionally we've always run a tag tournament in one form or another anyway. It tends to have less registrants simply because people dont like having to partner up.
Remove the partner from the equation, and you enter a different territory.
I just don't see it replacing singles. If that happens I will just be done. I can see tag as a side thing, but not taking the spot light. And I don't see how having two different tournaments like people suggested would work. I'm all for guaranteed damage just not desperate enough to play tag. This is just going to cause problems in the long run. Problems I just don't care to deal with.
For seven years doa have been promoted for having tag tournaments at majors? Where? And how big is the show up? Maybe that was during the 7 years I left this community. I still trying to figure out the plan. To completely replace singles?
Tag has been at every major DOA tournament since pretty much forever.
Every GVN, NEC, DID, etc.
The only time tag is not present is when the numbers are so low (single digits) that nobody cares. The point of this thread, if there even is one, is probably to get more people actively playing tag and to try and expose it more on stream.
Tag wasn't at SCR. Also from what I got is the op talking about replacing singles with tag. Tag always been a side thing like it should be. Single should not shift from focus. I don't see tag successfully replacing singles as the main focus which is what I am saying.
Didn't go to SCR, and from my experience that area isn't familiar even running DOA events. So that explains a lot.
Here is another angle of approach.
If one mode of play gives you more tools, more damage, better punishment, more freedom in general and has the potential of bigger reactions from the crowd... why would you be opposed to it, exactly?
Is it because you dislike tag, or is it because thats the stigma you've become attached to over the years?

Its because I don't play tag competitively and never planned or cared to. The game I always played was doa not doa tag. Doa will get better reaction when more people show up to tournaments. Replacing single with tag will just lose people. Not the best method of growth.
More characters to learn is something I know others wouldn't want to do. Especially since some people have this as a secondary game..
I'm barely learning this game so learning two characters at once kould kind of mess me up.
Guaranteed Damage does sound enticing though..
It's really not that difficult in this game compared to most. There are tons of braindead characters.
Well Ayane is borderline stupid when it comes to tracking moves, so nothing compares to her except for Lisa.
Rig isn't all that bad when it comes to tracking though. You can always delay your second hit as well.
Oh, you should play VF. Finding moves that track in VF is like finding gold.
of course a weapons based fighter like SC unavoidably has a ton of horizontal attacks, and even some verticals that track to an extent when they DAMN WELL SHOULDN'T.
That game is played more from range though, so it can get away with it. In DOA.... not so much.
