Indeed. You cant Imagine how Bad i was on the First 2 Weeks in that Game. Practice and Fights give you experience. Learning by doing!

Christie, Christie, Christie! I'll even list her pros and cons to help you out on that decision.

Pros:

- Great pokes and offensive pressure game. Her 9-frame jab alone makes her one of the fastest in the game. She even has strings that can be transitioned to either a natural combo or a charged ground bounce combo to follow up with a juggle.

- A special sidestep stance (Jakeiho, or JAK for short) that can not only be transitioned from different strings but has moves specifically for it. The result? Limitless potential in offensive mixups! She's absolutely excellent against characters with mostly linear attacks. I even have a little joke for its abbreviation, and call it JAK-ing off.

- Weak throws? Fuck that shit. She has a grab that gives her access to the opponent's back to apply even more offensive pressure. You won't need strong throws!

- Weak holds? Fuck that shit too. She has a low punch hold that - with practice and anticipation - can be powerful in its own right with proper footing and knowing how close you are to the wall.

- She wears shades. She wears muthafuckin' shades.

- Makes a great love doll when modified in her image, and yes, I actually have one, therefore I am awesome.

- Reminds me of my babysitter of the same name at the age of 8. Same measurements too, IIRC... could be wrong. All I remember was that she was hawt, a senior in high school, a grease monkey, and owned a motorcycle.

- Has the best shower scene in the series to this day.

- She knows how to wear a trenchcoat.

- She cosplays as Vampirella.

- Her Japanese voice is none other than the legendary Kotono Mitsuishi, aka Sailor friggin' Moon... oh, and Boa Hancock too.

- Her English voice is Laura friggin' Bailey, who voiced characters like Lust from Full Metal Alchemist and the Cloud of Darkness from Dissidia: Final Fantasy. But April Stewart was a cool voice actress too back in the day.

Cons:

- Cons? Maaaan, Christie ain't got time for that chump change con shit. She's making a killing doing some killing, and I'm trying to get you to main a character here!

- Seriously though, she lacks some defensive options, especially when she's on a backturned position herself. So unless you're really good on your defense too, you're gonna have to pressure your opponent to making mistakes real good.

- Oh, and she's been to cons before. Hell, she possessed Yaya Han.

Dude, why aren't you maining this character? She's so satisfyingly aggressive and fun to play, you'll be calling her "Queen" in no time. This British beauty is jolly, jolly good to JAK-off to. ;)

As SilverForte has said, you should do everyone's command training as you can see the different fighting style of each character. Or the easy way is just to pick someone who appeals to you aesthetically (ie looks cool) and just practice. Look up that character on FSD for combos, moves, and strategies. Clear the arcades from beginner to legend.

Depends on what kind of character you're looking for. Do you want a character that's easy to pick up, or a character that's more technical?

If it's someone who's easy to pick up, look no further than Kokoro. She's the easiest character in the game, in my opinion, and dishes out some incredible damage, and is relatively easy to master. For someone more technical, Leifang or Helena would be good to pick up as Leifang is arguably the most defensive character with a plethora of Sabakis, Expert Holds and Offensive Holds, whereas Helena can devastate you with her mix-ups and eliminate wake-up kicks completely with her force techs.

Don't start out with the VF characters until you get the basics down, though. If you do, then I would suggest Pai first since she plays like a DoA character, whereas Sarah is a beast with her frame traps and Akira with his powerhouse damage output, and arguably the hardest character in the game to learn.

I find it easier to learn a character that I personally find flows well for me, regardless of how easy or hard he is to use. So for example, a character may be basic, but if they dont click with me it's not easy to learn. But with for example, yoshimitsu in tekken, he may be the most technical character in the game but he flows well with me so it wasn't so hard to learn him.

play a grappler, people online always immediately hold after getting hit, just wait for them to hold, and then get the hi counter with your characters most devastating throw, you will win all day

I would say choose a character you really like and learn to fight with him/her and do not choose one which is easy to fight with. Because if you choose a character which is easy to play with you might drop the character after a while because you got bored of the character.

I originally played as Ayene because i thought she was cool but dropped her after a few weeks because she became boring to play as. So I chose random and played with friends till i found a character that pissed everyone off the most and she just stuck. So find a character you enjoy to play as!

I've felt the same ever since I got the game. I've went from Tina and Helena to Jann and Fang without a real main.

It really depends, too, how you like to play this game.

I'm a very stubborn fighting game person in terms of who I choose to play. For this game (well, since his introduction in DOA 3), I'm a Brad Wong player all the way because he's the only character I feel is truly unique and interesting; both as a fighter and as a character. LOVE his personality.

Unfortunately, I seem to have this knack for picking characters that are either stupidly hard to use, incredibly low tier, or both. This means I'm always trying to play on my back foot. I tried maining Dampierre in SC V and I nearly threw my Xbox out the window after my 100th loss online to button mashing Misurugi's.

Thankfully this game doesn't seem to have the wildly crazy disparities in character strength as some fighters, so you'll generally have a fair shot at getting good no matter who you decide to main, if you decide to actually main anyone at all.

That isn't to say some characters aren't just easier than others. As some have said, Jann Lee is pretty much the go-to if you want someone who is just all around good. Ryu Hayabusa and Hayate are also good choices.

Get the basics down before trying to tackle someone like Brad Wong or any of the grappler characters, because you really need to know exactly what you're doing and how this game flows before trying to get a whole different layer of mechanics thrown in.

He's the kind of guy I go out of my way to run over when driving through an underpass.

Ryu is now technically a grappler.

Actually you could say that pre 1.03 but after it he pretty much is a striker with the added benefits of a grappler

I never considered him a grappler. I'm just relaying TN's official classifications.

Where do you live, where Kung fu masters are so plentiful that they live under underpasses?
No. I live in a place where drunk, womanizing, douchebag homeless people live under underpasses. His personality is not his kung fu.
