Xbox-One Revealed

They are both the same as far as ease of programming goes. At this point it is about who the publishers believe will sell the most consoles.
Not really. When programming for the XBOne, devs need to take into account using the ESRAM to make up for the lack of bandwidth of the DDR3. Also, GDDR5 is better for gfx/gpu performance than DDR3.

An extra tiny pool of ram for devs to deal with is nothing compared to a history of strange system architectures.

At around 5:08:45 Mike_Z apparently confirms that PS4 will accept wired controllers (just not sure about arcade sticks).

There are other things to consider as well. For example the Bone apparently will allow some rendering and processing to happen in the cloud.

Also, GDDR5 is a pretty big deal when cards with it can often make games look better compared to cards on DDR3.

I'm curious to how Microsoft plans to do that.

Without a high quality connection and high bandwidth it won't do anything to improve graphics for the system. Graphics tasks need bandwidth and typical household internet connections would be worse than using DDR1 as ram.

I am too.

I am also curious about the "from 15000 to 300000 servers" thing. Sounds like a big deal.

I'm thinking more like Onlive

http://reviews.cnet.com/consoles/onlive-microconsole/4505-10109_7-34390907.html

The good:Compact size; inexpensive; easy to set up; includes cables, controller, and a free game.
The bad: Limited game library; very dependent on network speed; bundled controller feels sluggish at times.
The bottom line:As a $99 content-streaming set-top box, OnLive's MicroConsole offers an intriguing low-cost alternative to traditional living-room game consoles--if you have enough bandwidth.

Something I read at 8wayrun. PS4 might also have fees for second hand?!

Your missing the point I think. Xbox One will play used games too, behind a fee of course. Sony said PS4 will play used games too but when asked "If someone buys a PS4 game your not gonna stop them from reselling it?". The response was. "So, used games can play on PS4. How is that?". That's some vague stuff coming from the same guy (Shuhei Yoshida) your linked article was talking about.

^This is the actually interview and not a summary. After reading it you can't help but feel like it was a half truth. Doesn't sound like a confirmation that used games can fully be played on PS4 to me at least. We'll see at E3 though.

Anyway get hype people. Killer Instinct 3 sounds like a strong possibility. Even moreso since they just cleared that legal dispute with Fox a month or two ago. http://www.polygon.com/2013/5/21/43...13-perfect-dark-killer-instinct-banjo-kazooie

I... honestly wasn't pleased with either. I have always been more of an Xbox user. I have both systems, but I think I like the Xbox better. That said, the reveal didn't do a thing for me. I don't need half of the stuff they are requiring people to have. A kinect? I am not 5 years old. I know I'll get it, and I know they will probably make a better impression at E3 but I just don't see the need to upgrade at this point.

Well ... GameStop sure won't be happy about this! lol

Publishers to receive cut of Xbox One pre-owned sales at retail

Retailers will be free to charge whatever they wish for pre-owned Xbox One games, but both Microsoft and publishers will take a percentage cut of every sale.

Retail sources have told MCV that Microsoft has this week briefed key retail partners on how it intends to take ownership of the pre-owned market.

This is how we’ve been told it will all work:

A gamer walks into a retailer and hands over the game they wish to sell. This will only be possible at retailers who have agreed to Microsoft’s T&Cs and more importantly integrated Microsoft’s cloud-based Azure pre-owned system into its own.

The game is then registered as having been traded-in on Microsoft’s system. The consumer who handed it over will subsequently see the game wiped from their account – hence the until now ambiguous claim from Phil Harrison that the Xbox One would have to ‘check in’ to Microsoft’s servers every 24 hours.

The retailer can then sell the pre-owned game at whatever price they like, although as part of the system the publisher of the title in question will automatically receive a percentage cut of the sale. As will Microsoft. The retailer will pocket the rest.

Unconfirmed reports on ConsoleDeals.co.uk suggest that retail’s slice will be as little as ten per cent. That’s a significant cut from what it has become accustomed to from pre-owned sales and more in line with what they would receive from the sale of a new game – hence, the value of the pre-owned market to the retailer is effectively destroyed.

These same unconfirmed reports also suggest that the activation cost for consumers buying or borrowing pre-owned software will be £35.

When contacted by MCV Microsoft responded with the following statement: “We know there is some confusion around used games on Xbox One and wanted to provide a bit of clarification on exactly what we’ve confirmed.
"While there have been many potential scenarios discussed, we have only confirmed that we designed Xbox One to enable our customers to trade in and resell games at retail. Beyond that, we have not confirmed any specific scenarios. Another piece of clarification around playing games at a friend’s house – should you choose to play your game at your friend’s house, there is no fee to play that game while you are signed in to your profile.”

UPDATE: Many readers are asking whether the £35 will be additional cost on top of the price of buying the game. No, we believe that the £35 figure – which is not our number, incidentally – would cover the entire transaction. If correct this would leave retail with a cut per sale of around £3.50.

I'm not even a fan of Gamestop but really? As little as 10%? If this went through, Gamestop wouldn't be able to pay anything to the gamer "selling" the game to them. I can't see Gamestop agreeing to this considering how much they rely on the used market. If I were them, I'd tell Microsoft to fuck off, this is getting ridiculous.

If you were buying used you might as well have been pirating anyway... Publisher sees the same cut. Next-gen consoles will be almost impossible to hack though, neither the Vita nor 3DS has been fully hacked yet

But yeah I suspect Sony will do something similar to what MS is doing, with activation fees and stuff. Didn't they already confirm all games will be installed to the PS4, same as X1?

If you bought a used car you may as well have stolen it right? A used console? Consider that stolen I suppose. Used computer parts? Yep I guess those are considered stolen now as well.

Not to mention people who buy used movies are the literal scum of the universe.

Could you imagine if the movie studios demanded that blu-ray/DVD player makers build in an anti "used" disc solution and demand a cut of every used DVD or blu-ray movie sold.
