Diego Troubles

Yeah, I only play on XBOX ONE man.

Ayane has always been trashy, I've only even seen a FEW who actually used her properly . Her MID punches are punishable , time your blocks and know when you can attack or grab her . It only takes 1 good read and you can crush her momentum and make her 2nd guess.

If you play as Ayane you should already know the common moves people like to throw out, making it easier to predict.

Throw pressure ( if you get a chance ) and fast pokes . 1K if she starts to hesitate . And of course use your side step to counter her spammy strings.

Yeah, don't think I was using strings and P+K and H+K enough, so I was kinda predictable (and tired. and angry. and moody. gimme chocolate) and 1k for life!!

As for fighting Ayane, the MU can be challenging for Diego, especially if you're fighting her on a large stage. Ayane can space out Diego really well, effectively abusing Diego's weak neutral game. What I recommend is to be very patient during neutral either letting Ayane come to you, or staying at a footsies distance where you can whiff punish something with 66P, 4K or 1PP. Once Ayane gets hit by 66P or 1PP, there's a good chance that you might have knocked her into a corner, where Diego can basically rape her if he has his way with her at the wall.

In general, you want to fight Ayane in close range, because Diego's tools are more adept at close range combat than Ayane's. As for most online Ayanes, they tend to play mad unsafe at times and toss out a lot of shit that is punishable. If you're fighting one of those Ayane's, you can be patient and let them "hang themselves". If the Ayane's defense sucks, try and counter hit with 6PP/P6P and focus on doing moves that will back her into a corner (which can include launches into combos with good wall carry, or end with 66P or an Air T throw).

Hey guys I made it to A-. The biggest thing I learned is how important it is to constantly throw your opponent from jab resets and from a backdash away range. This leads them to them to take the entire PPPP because they are scarred and makes it a mix up on attack or throw before I even get in their face.

I am still playing through my graphics cards problem and leveling up. Basically after a month of playing I still think Diego is now a top of mid tier or even bottom of top. Not that it matters much, but my reasoning is that he can beat anyone. He doesn't have a dumb move you can spam and trick people but he does have a move for every situation. He does not have many good lows and that's his main weakness.

I have a new problem though if anyone is still reading this. The higher I climb in ranks the more salty I get. If someone can't beat me in neautral then they usually try and find a move to spam I am unsure how to counter. I usually run away and tea bag them and this gets them to approach me and I usually win. However I am getting too used to this disrepect and need to figure out how to keep my cool better.

After making it to A- I am finally considering dropping Diego. Yes he has all the tools to win but he feels so basic and so predictable. I just fought a Brad Wong who would lay on the ground and knew how to beat my 1PP. Coulnd't touch him.

Tina gets a hop kick that avoids lows and gets a 60% combo. Or one of her many offensive holds on high moves.
Ayane has a combo starter that leans back and avoids mids and highs.

I could keep going on forever but Diego is a boring piece of crap that doesn't feel good to win with at all. Every single match comes down to, do they know my lows suck? Yes? I lose. No? I win.

This charecter is about to make me quit the game because I lose to people with garbage neautral game and just spamming a bunch of random shit from 3 characters lengths away. Diego is a garbage ass character, I've made up my mind. Even Marie Rose has more options than this guy. Good thing his damage is good because that's all he has.

He's fun. was made as a 'starter' for beginners/with ease of use in mind, lacks variety , and has fuck all juggle options.

IMO , try Hitomi instead man, very well-rounded , more than Diego . Has more mix-ups + lows, more juggle potential as well.

I think Diego is actually pretty good. But maybe it's because I like characters that resemble him, who knows...

From what I've seen in videos from FON, DB, and Crimson: he's got multiple guard breaks, good lows (great for force techs), and some pretty hilariously powerful and safe pokes. Good damage character.

He of course trades long combo strings for powerful two/three string attacks, which fall in line well with his somewhat powerful throws, as well multiple launchers for conditioning.

But the most scary thing about him in my opinion is that he's got a fast mid punch, mid kick mix up game, maybe even faster than Jann Lee's by the looks of it. Combined with his above average low pokes, he can just keep you poking you without knocking you down and punish in all sorts of ways.

.....But it's all a matter of perspective and playstyle, it all depends on what kind of character you enjoy playing :)

However I will say that he's deliberately created in a very peculiar way, abnormal from the conventional characters of DOA6, for some odd reason that I can't quite put my finger on.
