Like, the amount of pigment shouldn’t decide wether what words you can use or not. I really hate the N word, whenever someone uses it i’m already rolling my eyes like: https://media1.giphy.com/media/BCXMSiVZeo8xy/giphy.gif
The double standard really has to end.
Exactly when a white guy says it the whole black community is on his ass but when a black person says it no one bats an eye. This honestly pisses me off, I’m half black myself so does that mean I can’t use it because my mom is white or does that mean I can use because my dad is black?
I mean in one case it’s used for oppression and hate speech to demean an entire race and if the other it’s a reclamation of a slur where it doesn’t hold that same weight
Depends on your click and crew... I said it within my group of friends because they said nigga this nigga that all day everyday.... but there are a lot of things I don't say when I'm with people I don't know in fear I will offend them.
The "er" extension is usually always used with hate so I refrain from that.
Ironically the backlash mostly came from white people xD
I dont think using a racist word makes you racist. Racism is an ideology. Which was the case with Pewds he got called a racist and he got slandered by a lot of other youtubers who went viral and talked shit about him. Firewatch developer also went ham on him.
Like he donated millions of dollars to charity but noo he slipped up, said nigger and all of it became null and void. I agree you just shouldnt use the N word, but when someone slips up it's better (imo) for both parties to just move along and avoid the drama. He isn't that stupid, he knows he screwed up and made an apology video right after
It’s a pretty natural reaction to have tho, and racism is an ideology but it’s easily enforced/adopted when we casually institutionalize hate speech as normal language for those who used and still use it for oppression.
I hate it when people use it. If people casually talk to me and call me that I’m already ending the conversation sorry. Same with using it as an insult, I’m not a nigga and i’ll never be one, I don’t identify myself as one so no one should call me that.
I'm white and I've used the term in a comfortable scenario and was not looked down upon. When you hear it over and over and over and over and over again... it's bound to come out.
I think the er association is because it's hateful. Normally for me it's been a hey what's good with you kind of thing... and to me that's not classless or distasteful.... it's not worth getting offended over unless someone is harassing you.
Why can't people just be chill. I use the word bitch endearingly and it works phenomenally. No one ever has a legitimate need to use that word even if it isn't with the hard "er" on the end. The word should just die with the rest of Racism and we should all just be chill.
It's because "Nigger" was the term of choice for when white people were demeaning and oppressing black people, especially during the slavery eras. The term simply means "black person", and black people simply use it as a form of endearment to their bretheren and empowerment. It's disrespecting the damage done to the black community in their past when a white person uses the term.
If the term simply means black person then everyone should be able to use it. I don’t like how the meaning or intention of the word suddenly changes as soon as a non-black person use it. If we really want people to stop being racist words like this shouldn’t be used, by no one.
The way I think about it is if the word can affect you personally/ be used against you, then only you can truly understand what weight that word holds and thus be able to use it, which only happens with the groups that slurs are used against.
For example, my queer friends and I always say faggot to each other as a term of endearment and reclamation, but if a straight person tries to insert themselves into that same dynamic it just becomes intrusive and disrespectful. Not everything needs to be made for everyone to enjoy, especially when they’ve Never had any stake in it as the one being targeted.
