I find the concept of tier lists unappealing to begin with. The main objective of any fighting game should be perfect balance across the roster with all characters being 100% viable competitively. That any character should inherently have an advantage over any other is flawed. But the perfect fighting game is nonexistent so. Good for the Tier whores I guess.
It's pretty much the reason why Gen Fu is still as stupid good as he is... because his pick rate is the worst in the game due to the high character loyalty that exists in the scene. In short, only people who want to win tournaments pick him.
LoL... I'm for real... Gen Fu's biggest problem is his Reach... no player just picking him up is going to be a threat with him until they get Gen Fu's movement down to make his shenanigans work for him...
Believe me... I tried... he's not a pick up and Stomp Character...
In general Gen fu is very easy to win with, he’s not that hard and doesn’t really take any effort to become very good with. Most Gen mains wouldn’t play him if he sucked
I thought gen fu was genuinely fun back in the doa2 days, but that when I was a super casual arcade mode only scrub who didn't know anything about competitive fighting games. Back then my mindset was "if they're simple enough that even I can use them, i like them" that's why ein and gen fu were my boys back then
Gen Fu's ONLY problem is his reach, and luckily for him the game does everything it can to put you in your opponent's face. There isn't much "zoning" or "keep out" in this game, especially when you're up against a character like him with all of his evasive, fast, damaging, parrying tools.
