What I'm getting at is that people expected DOA to be some sort of top gaming epiphany when it's nowhere near that, almost to the sense that people actually didn't believe or somehow be surprised on other game accomplishments to be higher noted than DOA. Fancy eye-candy to appeal one's eyes is not the resulting factor to what a game is. It's more than just marketing here.

Not defending Tekken nor SF here because Tekken is actually an overrated series full of kekness, yet most of it's reasons are actual genuine good reasons. Tekken is by far the worse series when it comes to any graphical output, but yet people still seem to forget that graphical output is not what makes a game to be extraordinary.

@deathofaninja Not exactly how things work, if a game is boring then no one would play it. People also don't play out of being a sheer masochist because why would they.

Fortnite is absolute trash without question but yet that game created a giant pathway that most other games never did. Can't take away Fortnite's credibility in a sense.

Marketing is a big factor along with legacy. For instance, Tekken 7 was marketed brilliantly but is a very average game, including by "Tekken" standards, though the game has developed a strong legacy, has some players that have been playing for over 2 decades and had a major breakout with Tekken 3 (likely the 1st 3D fighter for a lot of people). SF has developed a strong legacy along with effective use of nostalgia.

I like DOA5 and will likely enjoy DOA6, but will admit that DOA has developed a terrible legacy in comparison to the "big name" fighting games, coupled with weak marketing and reputation. SoulCalibur's another franchise with a relatively terrible legacy too. Basically from SCII onwards, the franchise's legacy has gone downhill unfortunately.

VF has nothing explosive so it is labeled as, "Boring" that is why no one here in the west plays it much. Yet it has a pedestal on its head because of it's technical achievements and pushing the genre forward. DoA has the explosiveness that VF lacks but I really do believe DOA tainted its image with overt sexualizations or rather the volleyball game ruined it post-DOA3.

Short story, some peeps tend to give DOA far too much credit or expected too highly for it when they get surprised in situations like "What the hell? MK got awards more than DOA!? that's a lie!". Like, how oblivious can you be to make a reaction such as that considering how incredibly niche DOA is lol. I absolutely love DOA, but when a known game overtops DOA, there is literally no surprise.

To me it is a number of factors for causals, level of competency, outer visuals like blood or dude-bro shit. The more weaboo the less it is payed attention to/played. DoA ain't that easy but it is easy enough. What bothers me is that imo, SF.. Is it pick up and play? No. Is it as hard as others games? Hell no. People give SF that chance 2 be viewed as high comp but DOA can easily be this game

VF suffers from doing a terrible job of appealing to casuals. The complex mechanics help compound the issue, because casuals already suffer from a lack of motivation to play VF (it's a brilliant game mechanically of course). As much as I hate to see it, casuals are important to the health of a fighting game. MK & Injustice appeal to casuals brilliantly and it shows in their sales.

@Force_of_Nature There is more than marketing involved though.

Can't call it an average game if a huge chunk consider it to be higher noted than another fighter. If there was a paradox and you had another "you" who solely plays Tekken, he'd say DOA would be the average because it's an opinionated answer not because it's a fact kek lol.

Well Tekken 7 is popular because of Tekken's legacy and marketing. Same with SFV. Mechanically they are solid games but are average compared to other installments. If SFV didn't have so much tournament $$$ from the Capcom Pro Tour and the like, not as many people would've played it competitively also.

There was hardly any marketing for most previous fighters and yet they still sold well than most others. (KI woot, and that was exclusive to Microsoft on top of that).

Not bashing DOA here because I still defend the series kek lol, but if it came to some serious discussion in some knights of the round table as DOA+other fighters that's there, I'd be in the lion's den with other fighters roasting me.

In SF you need to teach someone how special moves work and how to do them in order for them to have any real fun. However, Tekken DoA and even VF allow you to get, "Cool shit" to come out by hitting buttons. That is what gets causals. NRS took out the complex inputs for specials by lowering the in-between inputs. As well as everything looking cool. To us competent players, NRS has horrible animations.

People need to play it for themselves, Bomba. Now because SFV did bad , people are paying attention. As sad as it had to be, we need their nose to smell what's cooking and be a bit more open-minded. It's easy to get someone already interested in FGs to do it....but, causals, IDK

Marketing is absolutely involved but yet that isn't the 100% the reason for it. You could market DOA as a ultra serious fighter and it still wouldn't top Tekken because it's a drawback due to the series buyers (consumers) will treat it as succumbing to the invisible SJWz that don't actually exist. Tekken can become overly niche and still sell well because it's remembered as a SeRiuz FigHteRz kek.

@Hold_Junkie93 I will defend DOA till the ends of the earth though, but there are some battles DOA literally has no hope in winning. Fighting that battle will make me look silly in the end when it's not winnable to begin with. DOA can win that battle in the future but it's a long way to go for that, I accept the truth and only fight against that truth if there is an opening for it.

I spoke out of bounds. I don't they think they suck nearly as bad as Fortnite, but Capcom has done a lot of things that urk me with Street Fighter (a series I used to love). I honestly don't like the art style since before IV, it's popular imo because it's SF. Tekken I wanted to like, and enjoyed 2 and 3, but I was over the characters quickly. DOA deserves better than it gets, but unfortunately money talks.
