Also, personally with regards to graphics, I've always mostly cared about how fluid the animations are and how realistic the fighters react to getting hit. I'd have low polygon fighters with no shadows that react naturally than super pretty dolls that look like they're just clanging together (like some other fighters I can think of).

Some people just play for the graphics mostly and nothing more, I like good looking games but I can't say I would not buy my favorite game franchise or buy a whole new console just because the visuals doesn't seem up to par xD I think the game looks good as is, my only issue is just how lacking in costumes it seems to be.
Baji Breakdancer

See, the costume thing I get a little more, because you want your character to kind of be your own.

Too bad the animations are getting worse, as well.

Anyway, there are lots of different fans who will be interested in all different facets of the game. I never understood the interest in the hair discussions, even back in DOA5. But hey, to each their own.

@KasumiLover Aren't you typically complaining about Kasumi's hair? xD

@Project Bokuho for fun xD its not a surprise since I love hair, but there are way more vocal members who complain about it tho >.> other than that I'm not super focused on graphics, I like a balance of everything

Gameplay above all else here. There's a lot more people here on FSD who are into the graphical outputs, visual appeal etc. while most of the people who are into the competitive portions that use to go to this site have left the DOA series completely. Some left to a different fighting game and stayed wherever they are at, some left to Discord or competitive FB groups.

i can understand how it seems pointless but once you're done being in awe of something you start to notice the flaws fast and the hair has always just looked noticeably off to me. Random and weird, but I have Such a problem with the way the character's hands looked in DOA5... they were so damn bulky and clunky looking to me lol... they look better in DOA6 tho

I don't think it's pointless, I just think it's just interesting how different people are going to notice or be affected by different things.

ahhh yeah for me it's like... if im interested in this certain aspect of the game and i feel like it's being done well or it's a problem i'll make a point to say something cuz who knows, maybe others feel the same way. I agree that it's interesting to see what ppl notice, there's tons of things i would've never looked at had someone else not pointed it out.

Yeah for me a big thing I notice is the physical animations because I work in stunts and do martial arts choreography. So if a character does a weird or unrealistic move/stance transition, I can’t unsee it and it bugs me. Luckily DOA is better with this than other 3D fighters
DestructionBomb

You must be new here since DOA is full of unrealistic move/stance transitions as well kek. It's a penthouse of wonky portions. Obviously better than a Namco product for animations, but most of it is how "clean" they look from TN. Realism is far out the window in DOA.

Technically DB is correct, but I understand Baji's point, and it's an important one. DOA's animation and combat are meant to resemble Kung Fu flicks, which are typically not realistic but still more "human" than most FGs. For example, a kung-fu flick isn't going to consistently demonstrate 3-frame jabs (and if it does, it's probably not a good one).
Brute

Sometimes the DOA models warp and bend in ways that kung-fu stuntmen can't, but it's an adaptation necessary in 3D animation to make it fluid without breaking camera angles. So yes, they transition in ways real people can't, but it's still far more similar to a conventional "fight" aesthetic than Street Fighter or whatever else.

Yeah, SF is full of memes behind it. Crazy enough is that SF does have actual moves based off real life attacks but portions get performed in a way where you question it like "Is it trying to be anime? cool? realistic? or because it's the atmosphere of the game with fireballs and all." Or because eh, maybe all of it to where it just looks weird, YEET.

Brute's right, nothing in any 3D game is going to 100% look like a kung fu movie fight, but they shouldn't exactly because it's a game and not a movie. Fluidity is achieved a little differently sometimes.

That said, DOA and VF have always been the best at capturing natural movement in fighters. Tekken is janky and SF looks like claymation. Absolver's pretty good, actually, if you count that as a fighting game.

Deadass. Show me someone doing a C.MK from SF IRL that is supposed to hurt. Technically, Mortal Kombat makes fun of this.

I find it funny that some people don't seem to understand that one can have a deeper, meaningful interest and passion in game visuals other than just being a superficial "graphics whore". If those people actually knew how much time, money, effort and skill is spend to make a game look good, it would blow their minds. Game visuals are an absolutely vital part of video games, equally vital to gameplay.

There's a reason it is called "video game" and not just game. ;)
