The restand (guess since its similar to VF older mechanic), or wallstuns can provide bigger damage compensation with the opponent having the option to hold in that scenario along with safe throw options.

if you want to go for a reset as opposed to damage, which sometimes is the better option, if you have your opponent stunned against the wall but your wall splat combo wont kill, and more often than not after the knockdown you'll have to back off, it'd make more sense to go for a reset so you can keep the pressure up and land another mix up that will then lead to a kill combo

Soft wall splatting is just playing the stun game a bit longer and nets you more damage at the risk of being held though.

I see, what do you mean exactly with providing bigger damage compensation though? I thought nothing is guaranteed after a wallstun?

Characters who excel in big throw damage (such as Bass) can compensate for safe throwing and whatnot. Wallstun > hold > i12 throw. Bass can achieve 180+ points of damage because of it and in scaling did more damage than his standard wallsplat combo.

There is also the 2P reset giving up damage for setups with wallstuns.

Gotcha! Thanks for clearing it up.

@KING JAIMY Try that with characters. They have the option to hold. If they don't, that can happen.

Reminds me of DOA4 wall splats where you were able to hold out of them. I can see low holds being a cheesy way to get out of a wall stun too.

It's a pretty cool feature with wallstuns (the JPN players call it that too) some call it restands, soft splats. Wallstuns sounds cooler simply because it's a literal stun and you are able to hold out of it, so it's technically a stun somewhat I guess. The thing about getting hit with it is that people don't expect it and just sit there because they thought they got wallsplatted instead. Landed it a few times online.

People will notice if you hit them with the restand and do a jab afterwards which will force them to hold. The moment I hit them with the restand I immediately do the setup or immediately launch, not into the minimal extra damage with like two jabs > launch that gets reduced due to the new revision. All that extra hits is just giving the opponent more chances to hold you.
