I just had the feeling the fanbase was less active than during the launch of DOA5 Vanilla. From a casual point of view as well. I must be stupid.

No, no - never doubt yourself. Maybe it is in your circles. I'm in Asia, so a completely different playerbase. 6 has been killing it here since Core Fighters launch, tbh, but yesterday was much busier than it has been recently. FTP always works well in Asia, mind.

Tends to happen when a game is bad.

Might depend on what you are looking for. Some factors in both the casual department and competitive.

So for the competitive, I hear many JPN players are not very fond of the game. Not all of them, but quite a few are still playing DOA5 (via the arcades) according to Airgear and Twitter. Some people are probably playing 6 out of spite because everyone else is playing it and it's the game TN is only supporting.

For the west over here in competitive, it seems to be somewhat strong and a bit of a mix I guess, but it can change to be better (or worse), though it seems moderate to say the least. Numbers seem the same as DOA5 but it can drop just like DOA5 over the years due to boredom or lack of support, however DOA currently has more options open now such as CEO and many tournaments that DOA5 didn't have properly.

Will DOA6 die? I'd like to say no. As long as there is support for the game, then technically it can't really die until you made a sort of resulted outcome to where the game isn't being supported and everyone has officially left the game (which I doubt). DOA6 won't die and I like 6, but it certainly didn't leave a milestone impression. Still playable.

As for casual that's really hard to say, there are multiple casual communities and different ways to like DOA. Some people like it for the girls, some people like it for the guys, some people like it for the graphical department, costumes etc. etc. - It's a bit of a stretch but there are definitely mixed results whereas the previous iteration was mostly more positive than mixed.

dont necessarily think it's dying, but this launch certainly didnt help anyone... some of my friends have told me that they would've preferred the whole game being delayed as long as necessary rather than the mess that was given and i agree. Everything from basic functions, graphics, gameplay, to the season pass....it's really messy and disheartening as a fan.

I mean we also have to remember that DOA is rather small. DOA in general needs more people which we don't have that luxury for even more feedback and support. The more people supporting the game then the better it is.

You can support DOA in a small group for years if you want, doesn't change that it needs more people to give the game a bit more oomph behind it. On top that DOA6 started off on a small budget.

i get that but at the same time, its hard to imagine a budget being that big of a problem when looking at doa5's dlc. Rushing out unfinished products also loses you money and customers, you end up shooting yourself in the foot. Also the season pass being like $92 for a few costumes and 2 characters when other games are offering more outfits with 6+ characters... at a much less price Big Yikes.

Who knows what Koei did with that cash from the amount of DLC it sold on the cash grab. Team NINJA is just a sub company under Koei Tecmo so I would imagine that it's not even just a TN problem regarding the product via 6. Could be something of the executives or higher ups with decision making along with Shimbori who probably had no choice cutting stuff down with the budget they had (despite what it made on DOA5).

KT have made numerous slip ups, lately, and they're leaning very, very heavily on gacha cashgrabs. I'd imagine a lot of those DLC monies have been spent filling holes in other project's budgets.

Don't forget - Sony and Valve both take a hefty cut out of those costume price tags, along with payment vendors. They're not as profitable as they look.

@PhoenixVFIRE Most gaming companies rush unfinished products out just so they can grab the money from their players asap unfortunately (with a few exceptions). Season passes and/or pre-orders are rarely worth it these days, just check Season Pass 1 for Tekken 7 to see what I mean. 20 bucks for 2 characters and a bowling mode with no legacy characters coming back sounds like a super bad deal.

I wouldn't really say DOA6 is "dying", it honestly feels like it hasn't truly gotten off the ground due to the horrendous launch. It's super niche so it'll always have relatively low numbers. Once lobbies are fully featured, and Mai/2nd KOF character drops DOA6 will be fine, especially if TN keeps up the solid support of the franchise like they did with DOA5.

Over here, I don't remember DOA5 leaving much of an impact and encountered a loss of interest fairly quickly (before 2012 had concluded). However, once DOA5U released along with Core Fighters, DOA was doing well here even up until around 2016, approximately a year after DOA5LR's release. I still wish that DOA6's launch & promotion was better. The franchise deserves it.

I mean DOA5 had a hefty budget starting off, to the point that they even got the VF characters which was apparently expensive at the time. The game felt more complete, had lobbies (a complete lobby at that) etc.

It's just an exaggeration if DOA6 will die. The game will only die if you "make" it die. Heck, some fighting games don't have a community at all than a small one, so DOA is considered quite lucky in good way

Overall, it's a hard change from a gaming company. I'm sure Shimbori at times was like "I understand what's happening and doing what I can to fix this, but sometimes my own boss wants me to do this and I have no choice" moments. In the future i'm sure Koei will take notes on what happened to give TN breathing room to work on following games (hopefully). DOA6 is alright, don't take the death ideas too serious.

Nice speech. It gives a different and optimistic perspective to the game, which was rushed for sure but which I'm very found of actually.

Judging alone from the amount of discussion here in the forum and over in other forums it's just a fraction of what was going on around the release of DOA5, DOA5U and DOA5LR. With each of those games there was a lot more discussion, positivity and fan engagement.
